  2. Robson ignores Darvel resultpublished at 19:44 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

    Stirling Albion v Aberdeen (19:45)

Aberdeen manager Barry Robson tells BBC Scotland about his strong squad selection: "I'm here to win. We're strong, we show respect, but the bottom line is we want to get to the next round.

[On whether he spoke about Darvel]: "Not at all. This is a new team, a new season. I always treat every game with the utmost respect.

"I've looked at their team, had reports done on them. They play a 4-4-2, they might change to a 5-4-1. You have to give credit to Darren, he's build a good squad with a good spirit.

"It'll be a difficult game and I didn't expect anything different. I've played in a million of these games. It's extremely windy but we've got to try and move the ball as quickly as we can, and try and get our strikers in the game."

  3. Cup upset all to familiar for Dons...published at 19:40 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

    Stirling Albion v Darvel

Sorry Aberdeen fans, but I've got to mention it...

DARVEL! There, I said it. And it took me until the fourth live entry! The Dons will be hoping there won't be another Cup upset this season, after they were on the losing side in the biggest shock in Scottish Cup history.

Only Ryan Duncan, Leighton Clarkson and Duk remain from the side that were dumped out by the sixth-tier side last January.

They did better in the League Cup, at least, losing 2-1 after extra time to Rangers in a valiant display in the semi-final at Hampden.

  4. Young reflects on his Dons careerpublished at 19:34 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

    Stirling Albion v Aberdeen (19:45)

Stirling Albion manager Darren Young tells BBC Scotland: "To go and beat St Johnstone 4-0 away, they deserve everything they get. We've started the season well, so hopefully we can cause a wee upset.

"The spirit and togetherness the boys have... It's guys who want to do well - they're winners, they don't let each other away with anything. We've been ruthless in both boxes so far this season.

"The more you win, the more confident you become. You see it in training. From the front all the way back, every player puts a shift in. We've chopped and changed, guys come in and play their part. I can't ask for any more from these guys.

[On his time at Aberdeen] "I still look out for their results. I loved my time there, it's a massive club - they're the third biggest in Scotland. Hopefully they do well in Europe."

  5. Stirling's story so farpublished at 19:26 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

    Stirling Albion v Aberdeen (19:45)

Albion were the runaway winners of last season's League Two campaign, finishing nine points ahead of their nearest promotion rivals Dumbarton.

They started this season in similarly fine form, beating Stenhousemuir and Alloa Athletic in Group A before handing out a 4-0 demolition of Premiership side St Johnstone. Ouch.

They only lost to Ayr United on penalties, taking 10 points from four games and qualifying as the best of the second-placed teams.

Darren Young is their manager - a man familiar to the visiting side. A former Aberdeen captain, he made over 150 appearances for the club between 1995 and 2003 with brother Derek.
