Burnley drop down to bottom place in the table on one point from five games. They had been above Luton but the Hatters got their first point of the season today against Wolves.

Sheffield United complete the teams who got promoted being in the bottom three on one point club.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand speaking on TNT Sports: "Burnley are going to have to start picking up points. They had their most ever passes recorded in the top flight today, so that shows some of their work is paying off. But they need to find that quality in the final third.

"As a defender, when you have a big number nine up there you are wary and under pressure. Burnley just didn't have that, they didn't have the devilment in their side to get in the right areas in and around the box."

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany to TNT Sports: "It feels like a week of good performances and maybe not the rewards. You look at the amount of players we have to blend in the squad. There were a couple of moments. We go again. It’s a tough start. We’ll find our moments.

"If you play against a giant it’s always difficult. I thought Burnley did itself proud today. On another day we’d get more points.

"Our mentality is just to go again. It doesn’t put us back.

"That's where we’re at. A work in progress. Good signs and the belief we’ll get the rewards.

"The mentality is to win every game. Today isn’t easy. We started this game with the idea to win. That will stay with us in every game of the season."

Manchester United

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag to TNT Sports: "Team spirit was big. The battle, the fight. It’s about winning. The last week a lot was against us. It’s up to us, we knew that.

"Brilliant goal. Lovely play. In games like Munich and Arsenal we played well in spells but gave easy goals away.

"We have seen so many things against us the last couple of weeks."

On Jonny Evans: "He showed personality. He was calm, composed, did everything right. Very good performance.

"Reguilon was ill. It says somehting about his character and spirit. He wanted to play and contribute."

On injuries: "Of course it’s a concern. You have so many injuries. You bring players in like Holjund and you can’t bring them in slowly. The'yre not used to playing together. Like Hanibal who did a perfect job.

"Hopefully it gives us confidence. It’s only one win. Tuesday is the next game."

Burnley

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany to BBC Sport: "We’re very calm. We knew we had a very tough start in terms of the fixtures. We’ve put in a performance today and showed signs. We could have had a result. We’ve shown signs of being an exciting team. The start is difficult in terms of results but hopeful. I don’t see any reason to think this team lacks character or margin to grow.

"We’re prepared for this. We could win the first five or lose the first five, it doesn’t make us any better or worse. Hopefully fans can rest assured we’re working 24-7 behind the scenes. We’ve seen improvements today, hopefully more in the weeks to come.

"Every game we’ve been dangerous. We didn't take our moments. The belief has to be there that we will. For us it’s maybe about creating more. And believing this team will get better as the season goes on.

"Losing is hard but if you can process it in the right way it's the best way to learn. The results will come, that’s the belief that has to live in you."

Manchester United

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans speaking to TNT Sports: "I loved every minute of it. Before the game you get a feeling, I couldn't wait, just pure excitement. Coming up here on the bus I was buzzing. That was my 200th game for Man Utd, I never thought I would ever reach that figure - the best night of my life.

"I wasn't consciously thinking I would sign [after getting the first call]. When you get to a certain age you start to wind down your career. I got the call and didn't have another option, so I just took it and tried to do my best in training and take my chance. You then just hope your body sees you through.

"It was never a thought that i would come in and be a starter, i was told that my role would be to provide competition and that is how I have approached it. With a few injuries I then had the chance to start tonight.

"They play differently here to how we did at my previous club, so I have been trying to get used to it and adapt my play. I think I slotted in well tonight and really added my experience to the side."

Manchester United

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag to BBC Sport: "It was clear. Of course we needed that win. We had a tough run of games against good opponents. It wasn’t necessary to lose those games. Today was must-win.

"The team spirit and how they fight together [was impressive]. It was a team attacking with 11 and defending with 11. They supported each other.

"A lot has been against us, like injuries and decisisons. Like tonight. Murphy’s Law where everything goes against us. You have to fight and find a turning point. It shows the dressing room is together. They fight together.

"In stages of the all the games we’ve played we've played good football but if you want to win you have to do it consistently. That was a brilliant spell of the game. The pass from Evans was brilliant, the movement and finish from Bruno too.

"Last year we had the most clean sheets in the Premier League. We were disciplined and followed the rules. When we do that it’s difficult to play against Manchetser United.

"He [Evans] gave the team calmness. His skills were brilliant, as with the goal."

Burnley are the first promoted team to lose each of their opening four home games of a top-flight season.

The most common scores in the Premier League's history are now Manchester United winning 1-0, Everton drawing 1-1 and Tottenham drawing 1-1.

Manchester United captain and match-winner Bruno Fernandes to TNT Sports: "It was a great pass from Jonny [Evans]. I know he has great qualities playing the ball in behind with both feet. I was waiting for it [the pass]. Burnley give space behind but it was tough to get that at times and we took the chance when it was there.

"We know that we have been in a tough bit of momentum but we knew we could come back from it. Obviously today the performance was not the best but we got the three points which is the most important thing.

"We knew the game today would be tough. Burnley play very well and to be honest I do not think that the points they have reflects how good they are. We are happy to take the win home today."

Burnley have lost six successive top-flight home matches for the second time in the club's history, after a run of seven from September 1889 to February 1890.

Burnley made 633 passes, with 558 of them being successful – both are the highest they've ever recorded in a Premier League match.

Manchester United won each of their last nine Premier League matches against promoted opposition, including all seven under Erik ten Hag.

Must be disappointing for a goalkeeper when you go up and then your team-mates don't even cross the set-piece.
