  3. 'I have managed 400 Premier League games towards the tail end of my career'published at 20:21 British Summer Time 7 October 2023

FT: Crystal Palace 0-0 Nottm Forest

    Crystal Palace

More from Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson speaking to MOTD on managing his 400th Premier League game: " I was 50 when I came back and managed my first Premier League game. I'd been working them for well over 20 years so I suppose if I can be proud of anything, I've done it at what would have been the tail end of many people's careers so I'm really happy with that. The only sad thing is that I don't get any calmer or more relaxed on the bench, I don't feel the tension less, I don't suffer less when they have got three or four corners in the final minutes of the game. Unfortunately it's bad for any young coaches watching this, the 400 games hasn't helped me one bit in that respect."

On the injuries: "It's unlucky of course. We think very carefully about what we do in training. Last week, we had two very tough matches in Manchester. Eberechi Eze has a really serious hamstring injury and Michael Olise has had surgery. When you are missing two creative players of that quality, I don't care whether you are Crystal Palace or Manchester City or Liverpool, you take those out and you lose something so we're going to have to keep fighting on with what we have at the moment and getting the best out of them."

  6. 'It could so easily have been no points'published at 20:11 British Summer Time 7 October 2023

FT: Crystal Palace 0-0 Nottm Forest

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manger Roy Hodgson speaking to MOTD: "You have to take games as they are and you can't predict how the game is going to be looking before it takes place. Both teams had spells where they were looking dangerous. Both teams were hard-working and organised and determined not to give anything away because we know how important clean sheets are. In our case we are a bit wounded anyway and to lose Jeffrey Schlupp so early on, we had to come over the mental barrier that was going to help in putting Rak-Sakyi on.

"In the end, both teams get to a point where you want to win it and you're trying to win it but the fear that you are going to come away with a 1-0 loss and if either team had won by that margin, you would have come away with regrets. It's a point each and not what either team wanted but it's better than no points."

On Jean-Philippe Mateta's chance: "If you take it as pure chances, they had the better ones but we had quite a lot of play in and around their box. I think they defended it quite well but the bottom line was that we knew it was going to be tough for us and losing more players and getting bad news about some of our best and most creative players. Eberechi Eze has a long lay off, Michael Olise is no closer. [Jefferson] Lerma is still a long way off.

"With all that in mind, I am quite happy and proud of the players for the fight they put in. It's not a happy dressing room because like all dressing rooms, they want to win and they think they can win but I'm a bit more sanguine and a bit more realistic and I realise that sometimes a point is a good point to have because it could so easily have been no points."

  7. 'Not what you dream of, but we will take it'published at 20:06 British Summer Time 7 October 2023

FT: Crystal Palace 0-0 Nottm Forest

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson, speaking to Sky Sports: "I thought there were good moments in the game for both teams. They had good spells, we had spells. I thought both defences did very well. I think for us we have to look at it and be sanguine about it. It is a clean sheet and another point, but of course it isn't what we dream of.

"I think in the latter part of the first half and up to the middle of the second half we weren't pushed back particularly. They defended well and didn't offer up many opportunities but we didn't offer many to them too."

On injuries: "We always ask ourselves questions, how intense can the training be? Can we draw down on it? It is something we have to look at all the time, but it is not just us. It could be we are at that stage of the season. We have been playing highly competitive football since early August.

"I am very glad that we, with our squad, are not being asked to play three games a week like those with European games are."

On form so far this season: "Twelve points from eight games at this stage of the season is a very good return. Each game has had a story, the story of today was not what we dreamed of but we dealt with the story, we will take the point and move on."

  8. Postpublished at 19:59 British Summer Time 7 October 2023

Nottingham Forest have now kept as many clean sheets away from home in the Premier League this season as they managed on the road in the whole of last term (2).

  9. Postpublished at 19:55 British Summer Time 7 October 2023

FT: Crystal Palace 0-0 Nottm Forest

Crystal Palace have recorded more clean sheets in the Premier League this season than any other side, with the Eagles’ four shutouts their most from their opening eight matches of a league season since 1993-94 in the second tier (four), and most at this stage in a top-flight campaign since 1979-80 (four).

  10. 'Unlucky not to get the three points'published at 19:52 British Summer Time 7 October 2023

FT: Crystal Palace 0-0 Nottingham Forest

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White speaking to Sky Sports: "We had the better moments in the game, the more clear cut chances. We were unlucky not to get the three points but compared to where we were last season, this is a step forward.

On Murillo: "He is an incredible player, he made a tackle against me on his first day in training and I felt his power so I didn't want to go near him again. When he made that mazy run, I was screaming at him to pass. Every time I said pass, he did another player. It's an unbelievable run and unlucky that he didn't get the goal in the end."

"I think every game before the international break, you want to get three points and finish with a win. We will take the point but we know deep down if we had taken our chances, we would be going away with the three points.

"We had a lot of players come in in the summer and this time it was much better players and that builds competition in the squad, within the group. You don't know whether you're starting and you put in your 100% everyday. That has brought a spark in the group. Like I said last season, when it clicks it can be very good.

On playing with Chris Wood: "We have different strikers players who can create a different role. Credit to [Chris] Wood, he's an incredible player and give us something completely different to Taiwo [Awoniyi]. he can We missed Taiwo's pace in behind but we had Wood's hold up play. He give us a different aspect to the game. We have got good competition in the group now so we will miss him but we have other people who can do the job."

  11. 'A sign of our progress that we're disappointed'published at 19:48 British Summer Time 7 October 2023

FT: Crystal Palace 0-0 Nottm Forest

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper, speaking to MOTD: "I guess that is the sign of the progress we are making that we come to a side like Crystal Palace and we are disappointed just getting a point.

"We had the real chances of the game, well created chances as well. We could have nicked it at the end with a lot of corners and territory.

"It is a clean sheet away from home and we would have done anything for results and performances like that last season.

"There are some good signs in the team and there have been for a few weeks now."

On Murillo: "That [chance] will catch the attention of course. I wish he scored, but maybe that is next!

"He defended really well. You want your centre backs to be able to do both parts of the game. If he is doing that at 21 when he is learning the language and not long in the country then the signs are good.

"He is a talent, we won't get carried away with him but he will help the team grow."

  12. 'We tried to stay as solid as possible'published at 19:40 British Summer Time 7 October 2023

FT: Crystal Palace 0-0 Nottm Forest

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi speaking to Sky Sports: "Not sure if we can be happy with the result. Injuries aren't an excuse, we have got a lot of new players coming into the team and finding their feet in the game. Happy for them that they got a game today but disappointing that we couldn't capitalise on the game.

"We've got a lot of good players, credit to Jes [Jesurun Rak-Sakyi], he came on and he was our best player on the pitch so credit to him but we can look ourselves in the mirror and say we could have done better.

On Jesurun Rak-Sakyi: "He's a top player with great potential and the club has high hopes for him so hopefully he can take his opportunity."

"Forest made it tough for us today, very organised, good team, dangerous on transitions but it was just hard to get the ball into our forward players. I can take responsibility, I don't think I had a good game today but at least we got a point. I got a lot of help from T [Tyrick Mitchell] and Jairo [Riedewald] and the boys in midfield were fantastic. Hopefully we can regroup and get back to winning ways.

"We doesn't lose this game, you can get carried away with a result. Nottingham Forest are really good, we tried to stay as solid as possible and not lose 1-0 because we could have got caught on the transition.

On whether the international break comes at the right time: "Absolutely! We got a good win away at Manchester United, another point here today. Another opportunity to rest and regroup and see if we can push on."

    All over.

It won't go down as the most memorable game of all time - or even just today - but it is a point apiece for two sides likely to be in and around where they currently are in the table by the end of the season.

Forest are definitely finishing the stronger of the sides, they look the more likely to get a goal.

Origi reacted a little too late to the through ball, it was a poor touch from Elanga and that caught Origi on his heels.

Could so easily have been the opening, and winning, goal for Forest.

Palace are rocking defensively at the moment. Quite a few jaded and tired legs back there.
