    Big chance!

Spurs should be ahead. James Maddison whips a ball to the back post that beats a defender and the home keeper and is then tapped over the bar by Richarlison.

Let's be really generous... maybe he didn't anticipate it reaching him? Maybe the ball was a tad high and rising?

Can we please stop the talk of VAR and focus on football being played today. It's not VARBALL it's football.

It's a massive achievement for Luton to be where they are. I admired them in the good old days when football was football and you can't do nothing but admire what they have done. Everyone knows the reality of the outcome come end of season but that shouldn't deter anyone from enjoying them and the fans. Hopefully a collective performance takes the points away from Spurs.

Luton's defeat by Burnley on Tuesday will have left the Hatters feeling a bit deflated after the high of their victory at Everton last weekend.

Getting back-to-back wins would have been massive for Rob Edwards' side, but even a draw would have left them unbeaten in three league games and with something to build on.

It is hard to see them getting anything against Tottenham, who are playing well and creating lots of chances. I am going with Ange Postecoglou to continue his strong start.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-3

KSI's prediction: I am thinking Luton are going to be destroyed. I am going to say a big Spurs win. It's not what I want to happen but Luton's defence hasn't been great. They have managed to score here and there but I just don't fancy them being able to stop Spurs. 0-4

Tommy's prediction: My manager supports Tottenham so I've got to go with them here. 1-2

Want to know just how big an impact Ange Postecoglou has had on Spurs already? Here you go...

Tottenham are unbeaten in their eight matches under Postecoglou this season (W5 D3), though one of those draws saw them eliminated from the League Cup via penalties. It's the best unbeaten start any Tottenham manager has had in the club's history.

They have scored at least twice in all seven of their Premier League games under Postecoglou – no manager has ever seen his team score 2+ goals in his first eight games in charge in the competition before.

Spurs have had more shots than any other Premier League side this season (138), with their average of 19.7 shots per game their highest on record in a single campaign (since 1997-98). They've had at least 20 efforts in three of their last four league games, as many times as they had done in their previous 28.

    Pretty, pretty, pretty good.

Luton boss Rob Edwards is looking to be the first Welsh manager to win a Premier League game against Tottenham since Mark Hughes with Stoke in May 2015.

Since then, Welshmen have drawn four and lost seven against Spurs, losing the last five in a row by an aggregate score of 18-2.

Son Heung-min has scored six goals in his last four Premier League games for Spurs, as many as he had in his previous 23 combined.

He's also been involved in 31 goals in his last 32 appearances against promoted sides (21 goals, 10 assists), netting a hat-trick at Burnley earlier this season.

Spurs and injury time winners at home seem to go hand in hand recently! The past few games really just show how much of an impact Ange Postecoglou has had on this football club.

The mentality, the focus and the fitness of the players to last around 100 minutes per game isn’t a small feat, and it’s partially down to the environment and the fact he’s made clear the way we like to play football. So far it’s paying off.

Going into the games against our rivals Arsenal and Liverpool, I would have taken two points. They were both going to be challenging games against in-form opponents, and I just didn’t want to lose the momentum we’ve built up. However, Tottenham went above and beyond and we now have 17 points out of a possible 21, which is one of the best starts to a season we’ve had!

It’s hard not to talk about the refereeing decisions again, and I think we can all agree there is a need for a massive overhaul on how officiating is done in the sport, as it’s currently too inconsistent and not fit for purpose.

I do find it interesting how quickly Liverpool fans forget about decisions that went their way in the past, or how Jurgen Klopp told Ryan Mason to “worry about other things” when Diogo Jota didn’t receive a red card for a dangerous foul on Oliver Skipp last season.

At least we finally celebrated a win against Liverpool for the first time since 2017.

  19. Are Spurs title contenders under Postecoglou?published at 12:19 British Summer Time 7 October 2023

Tottenham Hotspur have started the season well under new manager Ange Postecoglou, picking up 17 points from seven games, all while maintaining an unbeaten record. Their most recent result was a controversial 2-1 win against nine-man Liverpool.

BBC chief football writer Phil McNulty is taking questions from supporters all day on Monday on our live page here.

Anon asked: Gary Neville reckons Spurs aren’t title contenders but, given their fast start under Postecoglou, do you think they could be?

McNulty answered: I have watched Spurs quite a bit already and I really think things are on the up under Ange Postecoglou. There is also a great atmosphere in the stadium as the fears about what might happen post-Harry Kane are eased by good results.

They are playing with positivity and intensity - in total contrast to what we saw under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte. The players have really bought into what Postecoglou demands.

Are they title challengers? Sorry, but I don’t think so.

Are they top four contenders and could they end that trophy drought stretching back to 2008? On what I've seen so far, then they have a chance.

This is the first meeting between Luton and Tottenham in any competition since a goalless draw in a top-flight game at Kenilworth Road in March 1992.

Mick Harford, who has been Luton boss 369 times since then, started up front for the Hatters in that game. Chris Kamara played in it.
