    Sheff Wed 1-0 Middlesbrough

Pol Valentin stings in a low cross for Wednesday, it looks like Ashley Fletcher is going to lock on to it, but Seny Dieng just gets there for Boro.

Boro are being kept at arms length in possession and then smashed on the break by Wednesday when they lose it.

Perfect game plan by the Owls so far.

  2. League One half-time headlinespublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

Unbeaten Portsmouth have enjoyed a dream half away at Barnsley.

They scored twice inside a minute early on and Connor Ogilvie added a third after 16 minutes.

Big comeback needed for the Tykes!

Port Vale equalised after falling behind to Burton and currently sit top of the table.

Cheltenham have now gone seven-and-a-half games without scoring a goal - they are goalless at the break against Peterborough.

    And they're down to ten...

  3. EFL Trophy updatepublished at 20:43 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

Reading are absolutely running away with at Exeter - Ben Elliott has just made it 6-0!

Wigan are doing almost as well, they're 5-1 up at home to Leicester's under-21s.

Everton's youngsters are 2-0 down to Doncaster with Harrison Biggins grabbing the second.

Bristol Rovers are leading West Ham's up-and-coming stars too.

These games kicked-off earlier than the Championship ones and are approaching the closing stages.

  4. goal

    Anthony Musaba (38 mins)

    WHAT AN ENTRANCE!

Anthony Musaba has only just took his training top off to come on and he's already made an impact for Sheffield Wednesday.

The goal in fairness was made by a brilliant one-two by Di'Shon Bernard, who strides forward, gets to the byline and cuts back to find Musaba, who was all on his tod to slot home.

Boro will be disappointed with the marking, there were lots of bodies in the picture but none picking up the Dutchman.

We're at half-time in the majority of our 19:45 BST kick-offs, with Sheffield Wednesday's home game against Middlesbrough the only 20:00 BST Championship kick-off.

It's been a mixed bag goal-wise... fans at Ashton Gate have had the best value for money so far.

  6. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20:35 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

    Sheff Wed 0-0 Middlesbrough

Josh Windass injures himself trying to rob Hayden Hackney of the ball in midfield, and having tried to run it off, is then replaced by Anthony Musaba.

Neither side can quite find that cutting edge.

  7. Postpublished at 20:34 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

    QPR 0-1 Swansea

A spot of light relief in this tense affair as the sprinklers make an unexpected appearance as we approach half-time.

Whoever put the timer on needs to set it back about five minutes or so.

  8. CLOSE!published at 20:32 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

    Southampton 0-1 Ipswich

Could and should perhaps be 2-0 to Ipswich.

The Tractor Boys work the ball across the box to the right where Wes Burns cuts inside and tries an outside of the right boot finish rather than swinging his left and it spirals wide much to Gavin Bazunu's relief.

  9. League One updatepublished at 20:30 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

Ben Garrity's third of the campaign has put Port Vale back on level terms against Burton.

No sign of a Barnsley comeback against Pompey - it remains 3-0.

And Cheltenham are holding Peterborough 0-0 despite going down to 10 men after five minutes.

  10. goal

    Matty Godden (35 mins)

Matty Godden puts the ball beyond Jak Alnwick and slides on his knees in celebration.

    Coventry are all square.

  11. goal

GOAL: Bristol City 3-1 Plymouthpublished at 20:21 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

    Mark Sykes (33 mins)

Bristol City celebrate their third goalImage source, Rex Features

    A third for the Robins!

I'm not sure where the Plymouth defence is but a crossfield ball finds the marauding Mark Sykes in acres of space and he has the freedom of Ashton Gate to finish past Conor Hazard.

    Argyle went AWOL.

  12. goal

GOAL: Southampton 0-1 Ipswichpublished at 20:20 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

    Omari Hutchinson (30 mins)

    Ipswich lead!

Anyone who has seen some of the goals Southampton have conceded in recent games can well imagine what has happened here.

Shea Charles is tackled as he brings the ball out of defence and Ipswich sense their moment, seizing on the ball and sending it through to Omari Hutchinson who lashed it home on the stretch - great finish!

Saints again punished for defensive errors.

Can they get back into this - as for Ipswich, they're flying since returning to the Championship and actually lead the as-it-stands table!

    Sheff Wed 0-0 Middlesbrough

Stewards collect tennis balls off the pitch at HillsboroughImage source, Rex Features

There is a section of Sheffield Wednesday fans who have launched tennis balls onto the pitch to disrupt the game, along with chants urging owner Dejphon Chansiri to go.

They've been cleared and we're back underway.

  14. EFL Trophy updatepublished at 20:17 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

All going to plan for the majority of the Premier League's under-21 sides in action tonight.

Liverpool's youngsters are cruising 3-0 up away at Morecambe, Villa are beating Charlton and Spurs are beating Colchester.

However, Bristol Rovers are beating West Ham under-21s.

Tom Barkhuizen has put Derby in front at home to Lincoln and Reading are two goals up away at Exeter.

  15. Postpublished at 20:14 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

    Preston 0-0 Birmingham

Brad Potts is dejected for PrestonImage source, Rex Features

Preston win the ball back high up, Milutin Osmajic nudging Cody Drameh, and Brad Potts is picked out right of the box but fires over the top.

    They're improving in this one.

No goals but nine fouls at Deepdale.

Birmingham have done a very good job of keeping Preston quiet and threatened a bit themselves with Koji Myoshi at the heart of their best play.

  16. goal

GOAL: Bristol City 2-1 Plymouthpublished at 20:13 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

    Adam Randell (26 mins)

    Lovely strike!

Plymouth have been second best against an energetic Bristol City so far but they are back in it.

Adam Randell has hit a beauty from the edge of the box, arrowing it past Max O'Leary to halve the deficit.

  17. Postpublished at 20:11 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

    Sheff Wed 0-0 Middlesbrough

Ball breaks to Pol Valentin on the edge of the box for Sheffield Wednesday, he hammers it low...

...it's travelling wide, and Ashley Fletcher fails to get a touch at the backpost which could have steered it home.

The former Boro striker has been tasked with leading the line for Wednesday and will feel he should have scored.

  18. League One updatepublished at 20:10 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

Lots of early goals all over the shop and it's no different in the third tier.

Portsmouth scored twice in a minute to take a 2-0 lead over Barnsley through Paddy Lane and Colby Bishop's penalty.

But that obviously wasn't good enough for Pompey as Connor Ogilvie has just powered in a header to make it three after sixteen minutes.

Long way back for Barnsley now - but don't count them out - they are the league's top scorers and have won their past three games.

Beryly Lubala has given winless Burton a shock early lead over Port Vale who started the game in second.

And spare a thought for Cheltenham - no goals scored this season so far and they are down to ten men already away at Peterborough.

  19. Postpublished at 20:05 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

    Sheff Wed 0-0 Middlesbrough

They're underway at Hillsborough as well now, that one was an 20:00 BST kick-off.

Middlesbrough enjoying some early possession but not a lot of composed play in the early stages.

    Fairly cagey.

  20. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 20:03 British Summer Time 19 September 2023

    Southampton 0-0 Ipswich

Ipswich have the ball in the net against Southampton... but it's not going to count.

The ref has blown for a foul on home goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.

Saints have conceded nine goals in their last two games, remember.
