Hibs boss Lee Johnson tells BBC Scotland: "It's not good enough if I look at the overall start to the domestic campaign. I take full responsibility. I think the main reason is the conceding of easy goals. Again, I take responsibility for that.

"We do look like we have goals in us still. We've been masters of our own downfall with our defending. I think we've shown that we haven't quite got the squad to compete of both fronts yet.

"Six of the last seven goals have come down the right side. We have to defend that better. Teams are targeting that. Chris Cadden is a big player for us and he's been out.

"There's no excuse. I'm upset and I'm sad for everyone. I can promise you we work very hard. I hear the grumbles and I accept the grumbles.

"I just hope the fanbase base allow us the time because when we do turn it - and we will, I've been hear a lot as a manager.

"We're still a new squad. It's not like there hasn't already been success this season. It will settle down as the SPFL goes week-to-week and we can churn out our best XI with full energy."

Brendan Rodgers had gone into the game suggesting that his squad was weaker than the one that won the treble last season under Ange Postecoglou.

His preparations had been disrupted further by injuries in defence which led to Liam Scales being handed a first appearance since February 2022 in a new centre-back pairing with recent signing Gustaf Lagerbielke.

However, the reshaped defence was rarely tested by a St Johnstone side who, whether by design or lack of capability, rarely ventured out of their own half.

It was up front where Celtic looked pedestrian compared to the side that swept all before them domestically last season with their famed intensity and ability to pull apart tight defences under Rodgers' Australian predecessor.

St Johnstone arrived on the back of what manager Steven MacLean described as two weeks of "home truths", a "mini pre-season" and a clutch of new signings since a dismal defeat by Ross County.

They were focused on simply surviving the Celtic Park experience, yet came mightily close to inflicting Celtic's first home league defeat since January 2021 and ending a 27-game wait for a win over the Glasgow side.

It also ended their own run of four straight losses to give a hint of better times ahead.

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland: "Extremely dissapointed. No two halves are ever the same but first half we were outstanding. We arrived a team in good form and our performance showed that. We deservedly go in front and we should have made more of our opportunities.

"We said at half time that Motherwell wouldn't roll over. The disappointing thing is we've lost two goals from counter attacks. We've got no divine right to come here and expect to control a game for 90 minutes. But I said to the players, if you can't find a way to win a game, don't lose it. That's why with the last kick of the ball, it's such a sore one to take.

"We got a bit excitable instead of making the right decisions. We had enough bodies back to deal with it, but we lost a little bit of composure. We were guilty of not showing calmness.

"I'm not going to criticise the players too much. They've been out, they've given me a lot of optimism about the level of performance they can deliver and they showed that for long spells today."

Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell tells BBC Scotland: "I thought we were really poor first half, the players know that. I tried two or three tweaks in the first half to try and rectify that. We changed shape at half time, and that gave us a real lift, a bit of energy and momentum.

"We looked more like ourselves in the second half. It's been a tough week for us with injuries. If we show that kind of character and personality then we give ourselves a better than average chance. If we play like we did in the first half, then we're going to give ourselves mountains to climb.

"It was just rewards for the second half. We took our medicine for the first half. Missing the penalty is a blow, but to have the personality to come back and win it is a good feeling.

"The fundamentals for us had to change. Better energy, better body language, and we saw that in spades in the second half."

In a similar case to St Johnstone, the post-match chat at Easter Road will all be about Hibs.

Again, don't let that downplay Livi's performance in Leith. David Martindale continues to defy the odds.

One win, one draw and a defeat, which came at Rangers, to start the season is not bad at all.

A League Cup quarter-final to look forward to as well.

Next week will be a tough task for Celtic at Ibrox given their confidence has now dipped.

The fans aren't happy tonight.

Our man Al Lamont is reporting that Celtic's players were met with some disgruntled fans in the ultras section during their usual lap of honour.

Next weekend's Old Firm derby has become absolutely massive for Brendan Rodgers in the early days of his second tenure.

Hibs go bottom of the Scottish Premiership. Easter Road isn't shy in letting their thoughts known.

A terrific, deserved win for Livingston. They were excellent today.

Celtic drop their first points of the season after failing to wear down a St Johnstone side who break their Premiership duck with stubborn rearguard resistance.

Despite dominating from start to finish, the reigning champions squandered what chances they did create in a laboured display as visiting goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov also produced a series of important saves.

Meanwhile, Celtic also had Joe Hart had a couple of crucial stops at the other to prevent a shock defeat.
