    Motherwell 0-1 Kilmarnock

Back under way at Fir Park, with Motherwell making a change. Harry Paton has replaced Joe Efford, who struggled to make an impact in the first half.

Will Kilmarnock make their dominance pay and get a crucial away win? Or will Well fight back?

  3. Livi end long wait for away goalpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    HT: Hibernian 0-1 Livingston

The travelling Livi support have fair earned that goal, you'd say.

Before Jordan Obita turned the ball into the back of his own net, they'd watched their team play 827 minutes of league action on the road without registering a goal.

A 4-2 win at McDiarmid Park on the 14 January the last time they scored on their travels before today.

It’s experience beating youth so far after a tremendous opening 45 minutes in Maryhill.

Kerr McInroy finished from eight yards out to convert Steven Lawless’s cut-back, then Lawless provided a floating ball for Brian Graham to cushion into the bottom corner with a lovely first touch.

But the Spiders’ star striker Ruari Paton struck from the edge of the box to ensure the visitors are still in it. Great game.

  6. Roofe makes his case for Rangerspublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    FT: Ross County 0-2 Rangers

    Andy Campbell
    BBC Scotland

Most of the talk around Rangers' attackers this season has concerned their summer signings, but Kemar Roofe's 37 goals in 79 appearances suggest he can still make a valuable contribution, fitness permitting.

The Jamaica forward made only six appearances last season - all from the bench - and was in the low 20s in the previous two.

At the other end, Rangers remain vulnerable to crossed balls, which they will need to remedy if they are to overcome PSV in midweek.

County's only defeats over 90 minutes this season have come against Celtic and Rangers and their ongoing Viaplay Cup run and recent win over St Johnstone give them plenty of encouragement for the season ahead.

However, in tight situations Malky Mackay's team need to make more of possession that comes their way. More ruthlessness in the early part of the game when Rangers were losing the ball would have given County a proper foothold in the contest.

  7. 'We have to be clinical' - Mackaypublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

Ross County manager Malky Mackay told BBC Sportsound: "We started the game well and then we kind of let it slide. Real bit of quality for the two goals. I don't have any qualms about the two goals.

"We tweaked it slightly. We brought a couple on. I thought we showed real nerve in the second half. Jordan White's header - great chance.

"We have to be clinical. If that goes in then things can be slightly different. They kept going until the end. There are reasons to be cheerful in terms of some of the things I'm seeing."

  8. Rangers performance 'exactly what we wanted' - Bealepublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    FT: Ross County 0-2 Rangers

Rangers manager Michael Beale told BBC Sportsound: "Really strong, exactly what we wanted. Our eyes were firmly on this game. The start to the game showed that. Delighted for Kemar, obviously, and James with a special goal gets us in a good place.

"We did have big chances to extend the lead. I would like for us to have shown a bit more composure at times. Delighted with the clean sheet. We go [to face PSV Eindhoven] in a good place. No injuries, everyone fit, everyone looking forward to it and what have we got to lose? So, let's go and have a right good go at the game."

  10. HALF-TIME Hibernian 0-1 Livingstonpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

Not the response Hibs fans were hoping for.

Lee Johnson's side have looked rudderless in the opening 45 minutes at Easter Road, letting Livi take the lead in composed fashion as they stormed up the pitch. Jordan Obita's own goal sums the mood up.

The visitors have impressed, and have been rarely troubled when Hibs make the odd foray into the final third.

  11. HALF-TIME Motherwell 0-1 Kilmarnockpublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

Kilmarnock set the tone nice and early, immediately setting about attacking Motherwell's backline through Danny Armstrong and Matty Kennedy.

The latter set up the goal, clipping a delightful ball to the back post for Marley Watkins to head in.

They've come close to a second a few times, with Liam Kelly saving well from Stuart Findlay.

Despite Motherwell being far from their best, they've had two good chances with Blair Spittal and Brodie Spencer failing to capitalise on promising positions.

  12. HALF-TIME Celtic 0-0 St Johnstonepublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

It's been all Celtic, but it remains all square.

Much of that is down to St Johnstone goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov, who has had a couple of fine saves.

But it is also partly down to a Celtic side who look a pale shadow of the one that swept all before them under Ange Postecoglou last season in terms of their ability to break down a stubborn defence.

    Motherwell 0-1 Kilmarnock

On the brink of half-time, Well miss a golden opportunity.

Stephen O'Donnell clips a great ball in towards Lennon Miller and Brodie Spencer, who puts it high over the bar.

That would have been a bit of a gut punch for Killie. They've played so well in this half.

  14. GREAT SAVE!published at 15:47 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    Motherwell 0-1 Kilmarnock

That's a superb save from Liam Kelly to keep Motherwell in this match.

It's another cross deep to the back post, Stuart Findlay powered a header at goal, but Kelly got across well and saved with his midriff.

Matty Kennedy is causing the hosts a lot of problems down the left. This is the Matty Kennedy that first burst on to the scene all those years ago.

He is fouled on the edge of the box and Stephen O'Donnell goes into the book.

  15. Frustration rising as St Johnstone hang inpublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    Celtic 0-0 St Johnstone

    Martin Dowden
BBC Sport Scotland at Celtic Park

Celtic should be in front. They've had the chances yet there still feels like there's something not quite gelling to unlock this.

They've had the vast majority of the ball, got into some great positions but a combination of great goalkeeping and that final decision-making is letting them down.

St Johnstone continue to hang in, desperate for half-time.

    Ouch!published at 15:39 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    Hibernian 0-1 Livingston

Kurtis Guthrie gets a booking as his boot catches Riley Harbottle's head after the Hibs defender had ended up on the ground.

Not sure the Livi striker could do much about that. Protesting his innocence doesn't convince Craig Napier.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 26 August 2023

    Motherwell 0-1 Kilmarnock

Marley Watkins goes into the book.

That's the second time he's taken a poor touch and smashed into a Motherwell midfielder. Probably justified.

    Celtic 0-0 St Johnstone

    Pat Bonner
Former Celtic goalkeeper on BBC Sportsound

St Johnstone will be happy to still be in this game and that is the job they were sent out to do.

Mitov's had a couple of good saves and there's been another couple of good chances missed by Celtic as St Johnstone are struggling to get any kind of possession.
