No Brighton players in the PFA team of the season is an absolute joke. They were by far the most entertaining team last season.

Aston Villa are closing in on a loan deal for French defender Clement Lenglet as they seek cover for the long-term absence of injured Tyrone Mings.

Mings will face months on the sidelines after sustaining a serious knee injury in Villa’s opening game of the season, a 5-1 defeat at Newcastle United.

Lenglet, a 28-year-old France international, returned to parent club Barcelona after a loan spell at Tottenham last season and now looks set to return to the Premier League on a similar basis with Aston Villa.

Manchester City have reached a verbal agreement with Wolves over a 55m euros (£47.3m) deal to sign Matheus Nunes.

The deal has not been formally agreed yet but, if completed, there will be no add-ons.

In addition, Wolves have agreed to sign City’s Under-21 international Tommy Doyle on loan, with the option of a £5m transfer that would include a huge sell-on.

These two deals are separate and come after City refused to meet Wolves' initial £60m-plus valuation.

PSV Eindhoven v Rangers (20:00 BST, agg 2-2)

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

The good thing for Rangers is they’ve been there before last season against PSV Eindhoven, and it’s the same scenario after a draw in the first leg.

So [Rangers] have a very good chance. Technically [Eindhoven] were very good in the first game but who cares about technical in a cup game when it’s a knockout? It’s about getting through.

Certainly Michael Beale is in what could be the most important week of his career at Rangers.

Another summer signing that has impressed our readers is Aston Villa's Moussa Diaby, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen in July in a deal worth a reported 60m euros (£51.9m)...

Surely Moussa Diaby at Aston Villa is looking like one of the signings of the summer? He's looking seriously good with pace, an eye for a good pass and a great finish. Really exciting looking buy.

    Ryan in Birmingham

Moussa Diaby has been the signing of the summer by a mile. Maddison, Rice and Tonali were also very impressive signings.

    Jack

Has to be Diaby for Villa. Been outstanding since the off - a bit pricey but incredible signing. Also Maddison actually making Spurs look exciting.

Michael Beale takes his Rangers team into their decisive Champions League play-off with PSV Eindhoven believing they are "due a big performance".

The Ibrox side were held 2-2 last week and will look to emulate the 1-0 win in the Philips Stadion that earned them a place in last year's group stages.

The Dutch are widely considered favourites on Wednesday, as they were in 2022, but Beale expects a tight and tense tie in a boisterous atmosphere.

People seem so quick to judge Chelsea’s incoming players based on last season, when it was in absolute disarray. Caicedo and Mudryk will become great. Even Rodri and KDB took a season or two to really hit their form and peaks.

Not an official signing but the real Raheem Sterling has finally arrived at Chelsea, great to see him reproduce his England form at club level.

I have been told talks are taking place with a couple of clubs about Arsenal defender Rob Holding.

La Liga pair Sevilla and Real Mallorca have both been linked with Holding in recent days as have newly-promoted Premier League outfit Luton.

Nothing has been decided yet but, after seven years, it seems as though Holding might be moving on.

Szoboszlai has been absolutely sensational so far considering the position he's asked to play & playing a man down in 2 games, you can see there's a world-class player there.

Szoboszlai looks like a Rolls Royce of a footballer. Finally the replacement for Wijnaldum we've needed for 18 months. £60m is not bad business in today's market...

Cole: Best summer signing, for me, has got to be James Maddison > Spurs. Fits Ange's system perfectly and slots into a team that has been crying out for a creative midfielder since Eriksen departed - and only at £40 million. With the money in the game today that's a steal.

Simon: Re: Andy 11:47 BST, unsurprisingly, most of the "best signings" are players who have been playing in the PL for a few years so hit the ground running (see also Lerma). Harder to judge young players from abroad signed for massive fees. Jury still out on Mudryk.
