Champions Burnley had four players included in the PFA Championship team of the year, while forward Chuba Akpom, at Middlesbrough last season, was named the second-tier's player of the year.

Akpom, who left Boro for Ajax in a deal worth up to 14.3m euros (£12.2m) earlier this month, scored 29 goals in all competitions and finished the season as the league's top scorer.

Conor Chaplin was rewarded for his 29 goals in all competitions as he was named League One player of the year as Ipswich won promotion to the Championship.

Bradford City's Andy Cook took the League Two player of the year prize after his 31 goals, including 28 in the league, saw the Bantams reach the play-offs.

Eintracht Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani has told the club he will not train as he tries to force a move to Paris St-Germain.

The PSG target, 24, says he wants to move to the French champions as it is "a unique chance for me".

The France international will not take part in Thursday's Europa Conference League qualifier against Levski Sofia.

Frankfurt sporting director Markus Kroesche said: "This behaviour has no influence on transfer business."

Kolo Muani has a contract with the German club until 2027 and has been valued at 100m euros.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said after Cole Palmer starred in their Super Cup win over Sevilla that a loan move was not a viable option for the 21-year-old forward.

When asked about Palmer's future at Etihad Stadium, Guardiola said: "The opinion I had when I arrived was that he wanted to leave but now I don't know what's going to happen. He's going to stay or we're going to sell, but I think a loan is not going to happen."

West Ham had been interested in signing Palmer earlier this summer but that was thought to be via a loan.

Chelsea have an interest in signing Manchester City and England Under-21s forward Cole Palmer.

It is understood that no official bid has been made yet but there is definite interest.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has spoken about how the Blues may look to bring in one more offensive player this transfer window but they would have to be the right "profile".

Palmer, who was part of the England U21s side that won the European Championship this summer can play in a number of positions in the forward line and midfield.

The 21-year-old has started the season well at City and scored in the Super Cup win over Sevilla and the Community Shield loss to Arsenal.

Erling Haaland was also asked what he was most proud of in his career: "Now it is winning the treble with Manchester City. It was a huge thing. The Champions League has been my dream ever since I was a kid and to do that I started to cry. When they blew the whistle, it was a really proud moment.

"When I was younger when I signed for certain clubs, knowing I became a professional footballer was also a huge thing. There have been steps all the way in my career that I'm really proud of but latest is the Treble, of course."

Manchester City's Erling Haaland has featured on the podcast Impaulsive, hosted by YouTuber and WWE's Logan Paul.

Paul asked the striker if there is anything in sport which he has found to help other athletes and he said: "Movement, training, biomechanics I'm a bit into. To use your body and make it work and function in the best possible way.

"Also I think sleep is the most important thing in the world. To sleep good, simple kind of things. Blue blocking glasses, shutting out all the signals. I put the glasses on three hours before bed. These kind of things, small really. To do small things every single day for a longer period really pays off."

Erling Haaland helped Manchester City win the Treble of Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup after joining from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £51.2m in June 2022.

"It's an honour to win this prestigious award," said Haaland. "To be recognised by your competitors is a great feeling and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me.

"It was an unforgettable season for the team and for me personally. Winning the Treble was something I never imagined, so to achieve that with such a special group of players was an amazing feeling.

"We created some incredible memories last season, but now we want to do the same again this year. We have started the season well and we need to keep going."

Manchester City's Erling Haaland has won the PFA men's players' player of the year award, with Arsenal's Bukayo Saka named young player of the year.

Norway forward Haaland, 23, scored 52 goals in all competitions in his debut season with Pep Guardiola's side.

Haaland beat team-mates Kevin de Bruyne and John Stones, Arsenal's Saka and Martin Odegaard and Tottenham's Harry Kane, now at Bayern Munich.

The Norwegian was also nominated for the young player prize, which was awarded to England winger Saka after he scored 14 goals and contributed 11 assists in his finest season for the Gunners.

Uruguay defender Santiago Bueno will fly in for a medical this evening ahead of an £8.5m move to Wolves.

Bueno, 24, has been targeted by manager Gary O’Neil and football director Matt Hobbs after a difficult summer has left the club short on numbers due to Financial Fair Play restrictions.

Once completed, it would be the first new transfer made by Wolves during the current window that has involved a fee.

Matheus Cunha’s loan deal was turned into a permanent transfer due to conditions in the initial move being met.

Wolves are hoping to bring in more players before Friday’s deadline.

They are interested in Manchester City’s England Under-21 international Tommy Doyle, although that move may hinge on Matheus Nunes completing his switch the other way.

Bueno, 24, joined City’s fellow City Football Group club Girona in 2019 and has made over 100 appearances.

He signed a new three-and-a-half year deal in January and made his international debut in March.

Back to the Premier League and potentially another stellar signing at Amex Stadium.

When Brighton make a signing these days, the rest of the Premier League takes notice, such has been the Seagulls' recent success at unearthing talent.

Manager Roberto de Zerbi called their latest arrival - Cameroon-born midfielder Carlos Baleba - "the future of the club".

Baleba's signing on a five-year deal for 27m euros (£23.2m) from French side Lille was announced late on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old only made his Lille debut 12 months ago but has forged an impressive reputation despite only making 19 league appearances last season.

He will fill the hole left by Ecuador midfielder Moises Caicedo, who joined Chelsea from Brighton for a British record £115m.

There is no doubt that Tom Lockyer's inclusion provides a big fillip for Rob Page's Wales side following the Luton Town defender's recovery from heart surgery.

Lockyer, 28, was set to return to Wales duty before his collapse in the Championship final play-off at Wembley in May.

The centre-back suffered an atrial fibrillation, a condition the NHS describes as causing "an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate".

Lockyer has not played for Wales since September 2021, though he was part of their squad at last year's the 2022 World Cup as well as Euro 2020.

He was named in the Championship team of the year after helping Luton reach the Premier League. Before promotion Lockyer had spent his entire career below the top flight.

Wales return to action with a friendly at Cardiff City Stadium against South Korea on Thursday, 7 September before a Euro 2024 qualifier in Latvia four days later.

Rob Page's team have won only one of their past 12 games, with defeats by Armenia and Turkey in June severely damaging hopes of qualifying for Euro 2024.

Wales are fourth in the five-team Group D, with just one win from four matches leaving them with only the slimmest hopes of qualifying automatically and potentially relying on a play-off in March to reach next year's tournament in Germany.

Wales boss Robert Page has recalled Tom Lockyer for their September games against South Korea and Latvia following the Luton Town captain's recovery from heart surgery.

Lockyer was set to return to Wales duty before his collapse in the Championship final play-off at Wembley in May.

However, Leeds United's Dan James has been ruled out by injury.

Meanwhile Page has included uncapped trio Tom King, Morgan Fox and Liam Cullen and recalled Josh Sheehan.

Manchester United defender Raphael Varane will be out for a few weeks with the injury that forced him off during Saturday’s win against Nottingham Forest.

Club sources have played down suggestions the former France defender could miss as many as six weeks with the problem, and note the forthcoming international break will limit the number of matches he is absent for.

However, Varane’s absence puts a greater spotlight on the future of Harry Maguire.

It has been felt the England international could still move before Friday’s transfer deadline despite turning down an offer from West Ham earlier this month.

That would seem to be less likely now, with Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and Maguire left as Erik ten Hag’s only senior central defenders.

It is almost certain to mean former United defender Jonny Evans turns his currently temporary contract into a permanent one.

We have already been discussing potential emergency signings at Manchester United to cover for injuries on the left side of their defence.

Well it looks like manager Erik ten Hag has another defensive problem to ponder....
