  2. 'We wanted to put Athens defeat right'published at 22:33 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    FT: West Ham 1-0 Olympiakos

    West Ham United

More from Hammers boss David Moyes on his team's winning goal which was created by James Ward-Prowse and finished by Lucas Paqueta: "It was a lovely ball by James and also the finish from Lucas was great.

"We had two or three chances and we didn't take them any of them, we didn't have many but you don't get too many chances in these games.

"Thankfully Lucas came up with the goal.

"I'm pleased for him because he does a lot of good things which go unnoticed, he also did a few things which weren't as good as we would like, but he made up for it with the goal.

"We tried to play in the right areas and get the ball into the final third, but when we got in there we didn't really make enough opportunities, or make runs behind or threaten enough with crosses. But that's a lot of credit to Olympiakos.

"We felt we let ourselves down [in Greece] and wanted to put it right. Let's hope we can continue that form."

  3. 'The result was the most important thing'published at 22:29 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    FT: West Ham 1-0 Olympiakos

    West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes, speaking to TNT Sports: "I'm really pleased that we got the result because the result was the most important thing.

"We didn't play as well as we would have liked but they're a decent team and a well seasoned European team and used to coming away in these competitions - more so than we are.

"In the end I think we were the ones who made the best chances, they didn't have too many chances to score. It was a little bit hairy towards the end, but largely we controlled it."

FT: Aston Villa 2-1 AZ Alkmaar

    Aston Villa

Villa boss Unai Emery to TNT Sports: "Very important, very difficult match. We knew we needed to respect them and try to play at Villa Park.

"They scored the first goal. We scored one that was offside more or less. I'm very proud of our work in this competition. We're getting better.

"AZ are a very good team. I'm very happy.

"We have to accept the referee's decision always.

"Legia are doing very well. We are excited to play the next game here."

  6. De Zerbi worried about injuriespublished at 22:17 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    FT: Ajax 0-2 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi on injuries: "I'm very worried but it's a problem we are fighting in this moment.

"We have a lot of injuries, especially in the full-back position. For that we have to find another solution. We play Sunday another crucial game (against Sheffield United) for us and we want to win.

"I don't know (about Dunk) at the moment. I think it's not a big problem, but he's played so many games in a row. We have to understand better the (injury)."

On beating Ajax: "I'm really delighted for the result, for the performance, for our fans.

"They were incredible and we are very happy because we made them happy."

"In the end we won so it's all good.

"We've been told it was a mistake from them [to disallow a goal early on] and they apologised. In the end it's OK.

"There was fire in our bellies. It was difficult in the first half, but we dug deep in the second half and got our reward.

"You have highs and lows in football, we made a positive start and felt unbeatable really. We have had a slump but you're gonna get that - that's the difference between the top teams and the rest, they have the consistency.

"Tonight is a huge win for us and the first step in gathering some momentum."

FT: Aston Villa 2-1 AZ Alkmaar

    Aston Villa

Villa striker Ollie Watkins to TNT Sports on his goal: "I thought it was close, I didn't celebrate because I thought it was tight. You never know with VAR.

"When you play teams twice, they study you and have a chance to put it right. They made it tough for us but we've won the game and that's all that matters.

"The first goal [disallowed effort after three minutes] should have counted. They said they made a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes.

"I'm really enjoying it. The team are playing good football and I'm getting chances. Delighted to be called up again [for England]."

Villa only need one point from the final two games to seal their place in the knockout stages. But if they finish second in the group that will be a play-off round before the last 16.
