    Aston Villa 0-0 AZ Alkmaar

    Joe Rindl

That's a huge let-off for Villa. Sven Mijnans had timed his run to get in behind a fraction too early.

It was a great move from AZ too who have grown into this match. They're second in the Eredivisie for a reason.

    A disallowed goal each.

  2. Postpublished at 20:46 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    Aston Villa 0-0 AZ Alkmaar

Emiliano Martinez pulls out a jumping jacks save to deny Vangelis Pavlidis and then Yukinari Sugawara fizzes a 20-yard shot wide. AZ are on top towards the end of this half.

  3. Postpublished at 20:44 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    West Ham 0-0 Olympiakos

Sounds like the natives are starting to get a little restless.

West Ham's endeavour can't be faulted, but like so often in recent weeks are lacking attacking spark.

Having said that, they have created the better chances so far tonight.

  4. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 20:44 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    Aston Villa 0-0 AZ Alkmaar

Slick move by AZ round the box and Vangelis Pavlidis slots in from Sven Mijnans's unselfish pass. But Mijnans is offside so the flag goes up.

    West Ham 0-0 Olympiakos

West Ham have a free-kick about 35 yards out. That's too far out - even for James Ward-Prowse.

Olympiakos defend with a very high line and when JWP tries to drop it over, the away defence retreats quickly to clear.

    Aston Villa 0-0 AZ Alkmaar

    Joe Rindl
    BBC Sport at Villa Park

Villa are playing a really high line, think Tottenham down to nine men.

It's bold but it works. AZ can't beat the hosts' press and Villa are winning the ball back with ease.

Now, can they turn their midfield dominance into a goal?

  7. Postpublished at 20:40 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    West Ham 0-0 Olympiakos

    A warning for West Ham.

Positive run down the left flank by Francisco Ortega, who picks out Daniel Podence in the middle.

The ball bounces just before the Portuguese forward, meaning it is difficult to control the half volley which he attempts and he slashes well wide.

  8. Postpublished at 20:38 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    West Ham 0-0 Olympiakos

Possibly the best chance of the match for West Ham.

Certainly the best chance of the three which have come Nayef Aguerd's way tonight.

It's another header for the Moroccan from a corner and the cleanest contact he has been able to make.

But he doesn't direct the ball as accurately as he wants as the balls drifts past the far post.

  9. Postpublished at 20:36 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    West Ham 0-0 Olympiakos

Said Benrahma is the West Ham player who has been making Olympiakos keeper Alexandros Paschalakis work the most.

A low goal-bound effort from Benrahma is pushed around the post by the Greek number one.

    Another Hammers corner...

  10. Postpublished at 20:36 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    Aston Villa 0-0 AZ Alkmaar

AZ defender Riechedly Bazoer needs a change of shirt... but they don't have one ready for him. The visitors are down to 10 while someone races into the changing rooms to get a spare one.

    West Ham 0-0 Olympiakos

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the London Stadium

A couple of minutes ago, Mohammed Kudus earned himself a yellow card for bellowing in the face of the assistant referee, who had given a throw to the visitors.

In virtually the same spot, Kudus has just allowed a routine pass to roll out of play, having failed to control.

    He needs to concentrate.

  12. Postpublished at 20:34 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    West Ham 0-0 Olympiakos

In tonight's other Group A match, Freiburg have taken the lead against Backa Topola.

That sees the German side go above West Ham in the as-it-stands table.

Back in Stratford, Mohammed Kudus miscontrols the ball on the right touchline and the ball goes out for a throw-in.

    Groans all round.

  13. Postpublished at 20:33 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    Aston Villa 0-0 AZ Alkmaar

A fine cross from Moussa Diaby, headed out well by Yukinari Sugawara.

  14. Postpublished at 20:32 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    Aston Villa 0-0 AZ Alkmaar

Leon Bailey skips past a couple of AZ players and then Moussa Diaby tries to do the same in the box but the visitors win the ball.

  15. Postpublished at 20:30 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    West Ham 0-0 Olympiakos

    Another minute, another attacking set-piece.

This time it is in favour of Olympiakos but the delivery is worse than one from a takeaway pizza driver with a blown-out tyre.

Straight into the grateful hands of Hammers keeper Lukasz Fabianski.

  16. Postpublished at 20:30 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    Aston Villa 0-0 AZ Alkmaar

This game has hit a lull.

  17. 'I got the ball'published at 20:27 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    West Ham 0-0 Olympiakos

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the London Stadium

Edson Alvarez shouted 'Why? I got the ball' when he got booked just then.

    That is factually correct.

But that he was flying in with no regard to Sotiris Alexandropoulos means the yellow card was one of the more straight forward decisions Slovenian referee Matej Jug will give tonight.

  18. Postpublished at 20:27 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    West Ham 0-0 Olympiakos

Wouldn't be surprised if a set-piece leads to the opening goal because both sides have created chances - or half chances - from them.

The latest corner for West Ham again finds the head of Nayef Agerd, but this time he can't stretch the Olympiakos keeper.

  19. Postpublished at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    Aston Villa 0-0 AZ Alkmaar

Leon Bailey swings in a cross for Villa, which Mat Ryan flaps at and Lucas Digne's difficult header drops wide.

  20. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:23 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2023

    West Ham 0-0 Olympiakos

You'd get away with this in 2003 - but not in 2023.

Edson Alvarez flies into a sliding tackle and gets the ball without really touching his opponent.

The force and perceived danger is what earns him a booking.

Game has gone. But we already knew that.
