He [Sneddon] just looks confident. everything he's done he's looked really composed. He's had a brilliant first half.

  2. HALF-TIME Ayr United 0-1 Partick Thistlepublished at 20:34 British Summer Time 15 September 2023

73 seconds in and we had our first goal as Brian Graham knocked Kerr McInroy's cross over the line.

Ayr have put in a solid shift in response but haven't been able to find the back of the net for themselves yet.

Both United's Logan Chalmers and Thistle's Jamie Sneddon have been the standouts so far on a decidedly dreich night in Ayrshire.

A great, end-to-end half of Scottish Championship football so far.

I've been showering Jamie Sneddon with praise all night but Ayr United's Charlie Albinson pulls off a cracker.

Aidan Fitzpatrick gets to the byline and digs out a cutback that ultimately deflects into the path of Brian Graham in the perfect spot to sidefoot it goalwards from inside the area.

I was about to scroll down for the Partick Thistle goal graphic, you were that certain he would score from there, but Albinson flies across to get two hands behind it and push it away from goal.

It's not a penalty for me. There's no contact. He just falls to the ground.

A half-hearted Ayr United penalty shout...

Logan Chalmers drifts past one and then heads towards the box.

He enters the area with a defender on either side of him and ends up on the deck but referee Willie Collum isn't interested in it at all.

No real appeals from the players either.

An early change for Partick Thistle.

Tell you what, if it wasn't for Jamie Sneddon, Thistle would not have this lead.

Kris Doolan has been flipping his shotstopper between the sticks, failing to settle on his preferred number one.

Sneddon's fair staking a claim tonight.

Thistle look content to just keep the ball for a bit and, to borrow an overused football cliche, take the sting out of Ayr's game.

They venture upfield and the ball falls kindly for Graham in the box; it's in an ideal position to wrap his foot around it and whip it towards the top bin.

Comes closer to hitting a motor outside though in the end.

No Anton Dowds tonight for Ayr, he's sitting just down from me.

His debut will need to wait, as since joining on-loan from Thistle, he can't play against his parent club.

Doesn't look the happiest tonight, mind...

Anything creative by the hosts is coming from Logan Chalmers.

He picks it up on the right side of the halfway line and uses the outside of his left foot to thread a sensational pass in behind for the onrushing Ahkeem Rose to latch onto.

His eyes light up as he sets himself to have a shot but it's once again handled expertly by Jamie Sneddon.

In these conditions, his goalkeeping performance so far has been exemplary.

Logan Chalmers floats in a corner but yet again it's dealt with by Sneddon who punches it clear.

Ayr recycle the ball but it immediately breaks down and Thistle try to get a counterattack going.

No luck however as the Ayr rearguard recover well. It's all gone ever so slightly flat right now.

A lot of sideways passes and fouls are breaking up the rhythm.

Thistle haven't been able to make their early advantage pay, as it certainly hasn't translated into a lot of control in the game now.

Possession, shots, and shots on target are all equal but the key stat is still 1-0 to the visitors in all fairness.

Roy Syla strikes from 20 yards or so out from goal and Jamie Sneddon has to get a move on, and a strong hand behind it, to keep it out.

The keeper isn't best pleased as he reckons Ahkeem Rose was blocking his line of sight and in an offside position during that phase of play.

No goal, so no real inquiry, but the goalie made sure Willie Collum heard his complaints.

Brave goalkeeping from Jamie Sneddon as he dives in at the feet of Ahkeem Rose to win the ball in the box.

Some on-field medical attention is required in the aftermath.

Back on his feet now and play resumes.

Thistle's Ben Stanway has a pop from a distance that sails over the bar as the visitors continue to be the more dominant of the sides in the opening stages.

A few fouls have broken up the flow of play however, with Ayr's Roy Syla picking up a booking for the most blatant of late fouls we're likely to see tonight.

No complaints whatsoever from the player.

What a game we've got here troops.

A smart ball from Logan Chalmers sets Mark McKenzie haring towards goal, running off of Lewis Neilson's shoulder.

He fires back across goal and a goal kick is given but replays show it should have been a corner.

A decent response from the hosts so far.

A better first touch from Graham and it's probably 2-0 already.

He gets a yard on his marker, George Stanger, in the box as a cross is whipped in but his control lets him down as the ball bounces off of his boot.

If he controls that with a yard of space in the box, you'd back him to score his second.
