Real Madrid, who now top La Liga, host Union Berlin in their opening Champions League game on Wednesday evening.

Sociedad will also be in action on that night and welcome last year's runners-up Inter Milan.

Real Madrid return to the top of La Liga after their second-half comeback.

It was hard work for Carlo Ancelotti's men but they did what was required in the end, with Federico Valverde and Joselu replying to Ander Barrenetxea's opener.

Real Sociedad's pressure waned after Valverde scored in the opening minute of the second half and the visitors couldn't find a way back.

Mohamed-Ali Cho wastes the chance for the visitors and sends a cross straight into the hands of Kepa Arizzabalaga, who takes his time to release the ball.

Brahim Diaz gets the better of the Sociedad defence and lofts the ball towards Jude Bellingham who dives to head towards goal at the back post but Alex Remiro gets down quickly to keep it out.

Real Sociedad haven't managed a shot on target in the second half. The hosts have been much more composed in the second half and shut out Sociedad.

So close! Federico Valverde latches onto a Toni Cross through ball but he narrowly misses the bottom-left corner.

Sociedad launch the ball towards Takefusa Kubo but it ends up a long way from the winger. He seems their best attacking avenue and the rest of the team realise that.

The visitors make a triple substitution as they look to claw a way back into this game with less than 10 minutes remaining.
