Ander Barrenetxea scored after four minutes and six seconds. All three goals conceded by Real Madrid in La Liga this season were scored in the opening 11 minutes of a game.

"We're very happy to be ahead at the Bernabeu," Ander Barranetxea tells Viaplay as he heads down the tunnel for half-time.

"We have to carry on and defend with strength. We've got to be very hard defensively and stay together."

As much as any side can here, Real Sociedad are playing with a degree of control and whilst they have survived a few scares, they are creating opportunities themselves.

Kieran Tierney just went on a superb forward burst that didn't bring the reward it merited and Mikel Merino is causing havoc when he drops into those little pockets of space.

Takefusa Kubo has just nutmegged Toni Kroos. He's making it look easy when given freedom to go at the Madrid defence.

Kieran Tierney does well to get back and divert a Real Madrid cross before it reaches Joselu, but there was an offside in the build-up so his worry was unfounded.

Two minutes of stoppage time are added.

All it takes is a split second for Real Sociedad to carve out an opening.

Ander Barrenetxea has the ball on the edge of Madrid's box and launches an effort towards goal but it goes behind for a corner, from which his side produce nothing.

Things seem to have quietened down for the time being. Real have eased off the gas and are taking their time to try and build openings in the final third.

That's a moment Fran Garcia won't want to see again. He receives the ball out wide from Jude Bellingham but stumbles over his own feet and Sociedad regain possession.

Rodrygo is screaming for a penalty after going down inside the box as he tries to get past Kieran Tierney, but the referee doesn't entertain his claims.

That period of Sociedad pressure was a reminder of the threat the visitors pose but the balance has swung in favour of Real Madrid once more. They're holding onto the ball well.

I was about to say Kepa has twice pushed shots into the path of Real Sociedad players, then he pulls off a superb save.

The former Chelsea man was lucky to get away with presenting Ander Barrenetxea a chance that he blasted over but he had to dive full length to deny Mikel Merino.
