    HT: Rangers 0-0 Real Betis

The first and last five minutes of the half showed that Rangers can cause Betis problems, with Rabbi Matondo sent clear early and then James Tavernier bending in an inviting cross that no-one could connect with as the interval approached.

The problem was the intervening 35 minutes in which Betis dominated the ball and the chances. On another night, Moroccan winger Abde Ezzalzouli could have had a hat-trick.

Michael Beale knows his side can do better, and in the second half they need to prove it. The fans are still with them.

  3. HALF-TIME: Rangers 0-0 Real Betispublished at 20:49 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Hmm. Not a classic.

Rangers will probably take that at half-time. Betis have had the better of the chances and general play.

Michael Beale's side have shown glimpses, but they're capable of so much more.

Brilliant from Rabbi Matondo, who skips by three men to find Abdallah Sima, but the Rangers striker can't slip in Kemar Roofe.

It's a pretty easy pass as well.

    Ambitious is putting it lightly.

Abde Ezzalzouli was at the World Cup last year with Morocco and is the stand-out player so far down the left-hand side for Real Betis, giving James Tavernier and co a torrid time so far.

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:37 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

Abde Ezzalzouli again. This boy is a player.

He bursts into the Rangers box once more and tries to find the top-right corner.

But it's just off target. In fact, it's a super save from Jack Butland.

    Goal kick given though.

Another corner comes to nothing. This time for Betis.

Rangers seem to be missing out Tom Lawrence, who hasn't been involved in the game at all.

I can't think of him being on the ball and facing the Betis goal. Sima is struggling to make an impact on the right, too. Matondo has been virtually Rangers' only threat.

    Rangers 0-0 Real Betis

    Kheredine Idessane
    BBC Sport Scotland at Ibrox

After a whirlwind start in which both sides could have scored in the opening five minutes, a bit of the fizz has gone out of this one in the last 10 minutes or so as both sides figure each other out.

That save from Jack Butland from Abde Ezzalzouli has just about kept the home fans onside, so to speak, but home boss Michael Beale has already been out on the touchline urging his side forward and looking for them to show a bit more quality on the ball.
