    Eintracht Frankfurt v Aberdeen (17:45)

More context on the scale of Aberdeen's task.

Eintracht sold a lad to PSG for 95 million euros in the summer. That converts to just about £80m. Eighty. Million. Quid.

That man was France striker Randal Kolo Muani, who scored 23 goals and provided 17 assists as Frankfurt finished seventh in last season's Bundesliga.

Jesper Lindstrom (to Napoli for £25m) also departed this summer as the German club raked in well over £100m while spending about half of that.

Even in Europe's third-tier club competition, the financial gulf between these two sides tonight is mad.

Barry Robson is upbeat about the situation.

I find it hard to see where the optimism is coming from, but he sees the players on a daily basis.

As a team, so far this season they haven't gelled at all. Against Hearts, every department of the team was poor.

  3. 'Tonight about as tough as it gets for Dons'published at 17:18 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Eintracht Frankfurt v Aberdeen (17:45)

    Thomas Duncan
    BBC Scotland in Frankfurt

Given Aberdeen's current form, any away trip in Europe would feel daunting right now.

But Eintracht Frankfurt's Waldstadion, one of Germany's most atmospheric arenas, is about as tough as it gets.

No side - including Barcelona - managed to get the better of Eintracht at home as they marched to Europa League glory two seasons ago, while only Borussia Dortmund and Italian champions Napoli emerged victorious in their last 21 home games.

Even in the best of times, Aberdeen's task to get anything from this game would be huge, but a beleaguered side struggling to find its identity, and with one win in eight games, will not fill travelling fans with much confidence.

Barry Robson's side will need to produce a level of performance that has been beyond Aberdeen teams for a while now.

A bit of context on how big a test this is for Aberdeen.

Eintracht won the Europa League a year ago. Sorry, Rangers fans.

They got 10 points from their Champions League group last term.

Aberdeen's only win this season has been against Stirling Albion.

They have two points from their opening five Premiership games.

  6. Duk dropped as Dons make two changespublished at 17:09 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Eintracht Frankfurt v Aberdeen (17:45)

On paper, Barry Robson looks to have gone for a more solid XI.

The Aberdeen boss has made two changes to the side which started Saturday's defeat at Tynecastle, with Duk dropping out attack for Dante Polvara.

The final switch sees Jack MacKenzie replace James McGarry at left-wing back.

Eintracht captain Sebastian Rode has recovered from illness to start in midfield with 2014 World Cup winner Mario Gotze, who will go head to head with 2010 Highland League Cup winner Graeme Shinnie.

Positive vibes only. Both Aberdeen and Rangers start their respective journeys to the Conference League and Europa League finals tonight.

For the Dons, it's a first European group-stage outing for 15 years. Eintracht Frankfurt are the opponents for their opener in Germany.

A little bit later, Rangers host La Liga's Real Betis back home at Ibrox.

Two stern tests for the Scottish sides.
