I think going forward now it's about how they're going to rectify what went wrong and see what they can do from there.

Sometimes a quick turnaround can be a good thing because you have less time to think about what happened and you just need to focus on the next thing.

Northern Ireland always knew coming in this, it was going to be hard game.

I think given the goals, they were preventable in some aspects, like the second phase.

We didn't necessarily concede from complete open play and that's something to take away that maybe they aren't as hard to break down as they probably believe.

Looking forward, we need to work on the attack and how we can get up and influence the other side of the pitch.

  4. FULL-TIMEpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

Republic of Ireland 3-0 Northern Ireland

The Republic of Ireland cruise to victory in their historic first game at the Aviva Stadium to start their Nations League campaign with a win.

Lucy Quinn scored the opener before Kyra Carusa and Lily Agg added further goals in the second half.

They could have won by more, with some good defending and saves from Shannon Turner keeping the score down.

It was a tough afternoon for Tanya Oxtoby in her first game in charge of Northern, as they failed to trouble Courtney Brosnan and conceded some preventable goals.

Northern Ireland started off well in the second half, but the Republic just picked it up again and brought on substitutes that have influenced the game straight away and it's shown from that corner.

Republic of Ireland 3-0 Northern Ireland

The Republic go close again soon after scoring, as Kyra Carusa glances wide after getting on the end of Abbie Larkin's cross, with the Galsgow City forward having embarked on a darting run down the right.

    Lily Agg (85 minutes)

An instant impact from the substitute!

Again, the Republic of Ireland make a set-piece count. Katie McCabe swings the ball in to Agg, who rises highest to power a header goal ward. Her header hits the post and crosses the line before Shannon Turner can get to it, as the Republic make their continued pressure tell.

The crowd is actually unbelievable, looking around it's absolutely amazing and I think it's just a credit to the way the women's game is going.

It's just gradually building and I think we're going to keep seeing it going in the right direction.

Its a tough one - we looked like we were doing well on the attack.

It's a good ball from McCabe over the top, she's obviously saw Carusa make the run and it's just unfortunate with miscommunication between Turner and Holloway and it's been punished.

It's a very unfortunate one to give away, so hopefully they can build back from it again

GOAL - Republic of Ireland 2-0 Northern Irelandpublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    Kyra Carusa (70 minutes)

That is a goal Shannon Turner will not want to see back again.

A simple ball over the top from Katie McCabe looks like it will be dealt with by Rebecca Holloway, but she fails to get much of a connection on it and Shannon Turner rushes out of her goal and also misses the ball.

It falls for Kyra Carusa, who has the simplest of tasks to clip the ball into an empty net.

A real sucker punch for Northern Ireland as it was completely avoidable

Republic of Ireland 1-0 Northern Ireland

    Jackie Burns
Northern Ireland goalkeeper on BBC iPlayer

I think Northern Ireland came out on the front foot and caught the Republic off guard but I think the Republic have actually settled back into the second half and have picked it up again.

  20. CLOSE!published at 14:27 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

Republic of Ireland 1-0 Northern Ireland

Katie McCabe picks out Abbie Larkin just inside the area, and her sweeping first-time shot is just past the post.

Northern Ireland are stuck in their own half at the moment.
