Northern Ireland's Rachel Furness has stressed the importance of adopting Tanya Oxtoby's "winning mentality" ahead of Saturday's Nations League match against the Republic of Ireland.

Oxtoby will take charge of NI for the first time this weekend for the game at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Furness is determined that the squad endeavour to reach the high standards set by the new manager.

"She [Oxtoby] knows what it takes to win", said the Bristol City midfielder.

This should be an incredible atmosphere and occasion in Dublin with 38,000 tickets sold for the match.

I was fortunate enough to savour the atmosphere in Sydney for the Republic's World Cup opener and the chants of 'ole, ole, ole' before the teams came out were spine-tingling - as were the roars when Katie McCabe scored against Canada.

We all know how good the Northern Ireland fans are and they were a real highlight of the Euro 2022 experience.

It's not often you get an away game right on your doorstep, and a healthy number of the Green and White Army are expected to make the trip down the road to Dublin.

    This could be pretty special.

A rivalry like Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland is unique, but Saturday's game between the sides has more intrigue than usual.

With the Republic of Ireland's maiden World Cup coming 12 months after Northern Ireland's appearance at Euro 2022, the similarities between the neighbours are striking.

Today's international match between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland is full of landmark moments and has all the ingredients for an entertaining game.

The first international women's match to be played at the Aviva Stadium and the first ever Nations League campaign for women's international sides are just two of the milestones being celebrated in Dublin.

That's before you even consider it being Northern Ireland's first match under new manager Tanya Oxtoby and the Republic's first since their World Cup appearance and the subsequent departure of former manager Vera Pauw.

The game promises much, let's hope it lives up to the pre-match expectations, and you can see it all with us on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website, plus follow live text updates throughout the game.
