  1. 'Nothing short of brilliant'published at 14:20 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    Aldershot 1-1 Stockport

    Phil Brown
Former Bolton assistant manager on BBC Radio Manchester

What we’ve just seen there is nothing short of brilliant. He looks a giant of a centre-half but has stepped up there with aplomb and it’s a bullet into the net. There’s quality oozing out here - from teams in the fourth and fifth tier. It’s great for England, the quality we have at this level.

    Eastleigh 1-0 Reading

Good on-going tussle between Reading defender Tom Holmes and Eastleigh goalscorer Paul McCallum.

    Neither player giving way.

Ben Elliott flashes a curling effort just wide of the post, as Reading seek an equaliser in stoppage time.

    Nothing doing yet.

    Eastleigh 1-0 Reading

    Superb break, superb save.

Enzio Boldewijn bent a perfect pass into space for Scott Quigley to race onto.

Out comes Joel Pereira and denies him.

Might have squared it to the supporting Paul McCallum, but he is a striker and it's a selfish position.

    Neill Byrne (13 mins)

Aldershot's lead didn't last long, and what a goal to equalise.

Out of nowhere, Neill Byrne hits a brilliant strike from 25 yards out into the top right-hand corner of the net.

    What a response, game on!

  6. Postpublished at 45 mins

    Eastleigh 1-0 Reading

Charlie Savage placed the ball with all the precision of a master craftsman, weighed up his angles, went through some mini-visualisation.

Then curled it high over the Eastleigh bar. Not the Reading schemer's best.

    Six minutes added time.

  7. Postpublished at 44 mins

    Eastleigh 1-0 Reading

Ludwig Francillette grabs a handful of Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan's shirt and concedes a free-kick on the edge of the Eastleigh box.

    Threat time?

  8. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 41 mins

    Eastleigh 1-0 Reading

Paul McCallum shoves Amadou Mbangue out of the way to head past Joel Pereira and just for a second Eastleigh think they've a second.

Referee Lewis Smith is having none of it. Foul.

Non-League Aldershot lead inside the first 10 minutes!

The home side work the ball well and it falls to Josh Stokes, whose strike takes a deflection before hitting the back of the net.

A great start for the Shots.

  10. Postpublished at 38 mins

    Eastleigh 1-0 Reading

Reading push the ball neatly on the edge of the Eastleigh box, and Ben Elliott squares to Femi Azeez but the ball is pinched from his toe.

At the other end, George Langston's cross is a let-down as Eastleigh fail to make an opportunity count.

  11. YELLOW CARDpublished at 36 mins

    Eastleigh 1-0 Reading

Eastleigh's Paul McCallum is booked for what appeared to be excessively drying the ball - so probably time-wasting.

Reading get a free-kick at the other end after Femi Azeez is lopped down.

  12. 'Reading will get opportunities'published at 14:05 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    Eastleigh 1-0 Reading

    Mick Gooding
Ex-Reading player/manager on BBC Radio Berkshire

The manager will have told the Reading players that it’ll be a physical encounter and they’ll need to be ready for it. Eastleigh haven’t got the talent that Reading have on the pitch so have to try to level things up by using their physicality. You have to be ready for that. But I'm sure Reading will get opportunities.

  13. Postpublished at 34 mins

    Eastleigh 1-0 Reading

Reading put the ball over the top for Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan to chase, it looks like he's on.

However, the touch is lacking and the ball rolls agonisingly away from him and into the hands of Joe McDonnell.

You'd expect better from a player of his calibre.

Derek: Surely Shrewsbury v Wrexham is the standout FA Cup tie rather than seeing which Premier team survives an all Premier tie?!

There is a lot of love for the prospect of Shrewsbury v Wrexham. Only a relatively short trip down the A5 for that one.

  15. Postpublished at 33 mins

    Eastleigh 1-0 Reading

Femi Azeez streaks down the right for Reading but is tracked all the way by defender George Langston for Eastleigh, who goes shoulder to shoulder with him and shepherds him out of play.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 29 mins

    Eastleigh 1-0 Reading

Charlie Savage leaves an imprint on Eastleigh playmaker Chris Maguire and sends him tumbling with a thunderous tackle.

It raises the ire of the Eastleigh side, notably Scott Quigley who angrily remonstrated.

    Booking is the punishment.

  19. Can Aldershot spring another cup shock?published at 13:58 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    Aldershot v Stockport (14:00 GMT)

Aldershot produced one of the shocks of the first round by humbling League Two Swindon Town 7-4 at the County Ground.

This time around they face fourth-tier opposition once again in Stockport County, as they vie to reach the third round for the first time since 2013.

County handed out a thrashing of their own in the first round as Kyle Wootton netted four times en route to a 5-1 victory over Worksop Town.

Dave Challinor's side currently sit five points clear at the top of League Two, but they will be wary of what happened to their league counterparts against the Hampshire side.

Will lightning strike twice for Aldershot, or can Stockport reach the third round for the third time in four seasons?

  20. Postpublished at 26 mins

    Eastleigh 1-0 Reading

Seventeen goals this season for Paul McCallum now.

Eastleigh feeling the heat on the back of their opener as Reading pile on the pressure.

Jake Taylor left flat out after taking a Femi Azeez shot at point-blank range.

He's been busy the Eastleigh skipper, earning a booking for scything Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan in half a moment before.
