A dangerous Jorge Grant cross from the right is cut out by Joe Wright, but it goes back the way and Will Dennis gladly claims.
That could've gone anywhere.

Really well-worked move from Hearts results in Alan Forrest getting to the bye-line.
But his drive across goal is blocked by Joe Wright then comes back off Forrest.

The Killie defence decide to pass the ball to Cammy Devlin, who finds Jorge Grant in the box.
Devlin and Grant then decide to tackle each other and Killie end up with a free-kick out of it.
That was quite funny.

One player stands head and shoulders above the rest in the opening 15 minutes.
Killie's Matty Kennedy is causing Hearts all sorts of problems down their right side with his jinking runs, good close control and good use of the ball.
Great start from the Northern Irishman.

And he bends it over.
It would've taken something special from there. Not the worst effort though.

Kye Rowles gives away a cheap free-kick after being turned by home skipper Kyle Vassell.
Danny Armstrong places it...

Hearts work a sneaky corner routine to Kenneth Vargas, but he makes a total mess of his finish.
That's a chance ye know.

We have a game here.
End-to-end stuff as the ball swings from the Hearts box to Killie's and Lawrence Shankland is denied by a superb Stuart Findlay block.

Kennedy with his box of tricks there. Brilliant.
It's a brilliant save from Zander Clark too.
Kilmarnock 0-0 Hearts
Ah, that's brilliant from Matty Kennedy.
He skips past Toby Sibbick and Cammy Devlin with ease then looks to find the far corner, but it takes a nick and looks to be pushed away by Zander Clark.
Killie are alive.

Kilmarnock haven't really got going yet.
What I will say though is when they drop into their defensive shape they look comfortable, they're happy to let Hearts have the ball in front of them.

Zander Clark invites pressure on to Hearts with a terrible kick out.
Matty Kennedy gets thwarted by Toby Sibbick though and the attack breaks down.

It's all Hearts at Rugby Park as Stephen Kingsley looks to slip in Lawrence Shankland.
Too heavy though.
Kilmarnock 0-0 Hearts
A comical passage of play.
At least two Hearts players make a mess of trying to claim the ball, but Kyle Vassell can't capitalise then David Watson trips.
Kilmarnock 0-0 Hearts
Another Lawrence Shankland effort.
This one is hit cleanly but it's from far out and doesn't test Will Dennis in the Killie goal.
Kilmarnock 0-0 Hearts
Hearts have started well.
A Stephen Kingsley cross to the back post is knocked into the path of Lawrence Shankland, who can't get a decent shot off.
The ball was behind him a bit in fairness.

"Funded by fans. Run by clowns. We deserve better."
The banners in the Hearts end say it all when it comes to the dissatisfaction felt by some in Gorgie at present.
By contrast, the other three sides of the ground seem fairly buoyant. They think another big League Cup win is coming, like last time out against Celtic.
Kilmarnock 0-0 Hearts
Away we go in Ayrshire.

Hearts have to set their stall out in the first 10 minutes, in the correct way, and deal with Kyle Vassell.
