  3. 'We need to keep the focus for the 90 minutes'

Bournemouth v Stoke (Wed, 19:45 BST)

    Bournemouth

A final word from Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, about his side, Neto and Stoke City: "For me, we are a very young team. We have young defenders. They are not very old players but I think the demands of the Premier League is that we trust these players and think they have the quality they are showing. We need to keep the focus for the 90 minutes."

On Neto: "I think he is doing well. I think he had a very good game against Chelsea and probably the other day, the first goal is a tough one. The miscommunication, it's a tough goal to concede but I also think he has very good moments in that game."

On Stoke City: "They have Wesley - they use him as a number nine. They also try and play from the back. They try to turn around results and they are trying to play. We will be trying to control the ball but I think they will try and do the same."

  4. Bournemouth team news

Bournemouth v Stoke (Wed, 19:45 BST)

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola speaking at his press conference ahead of the Carabao Cup clash against Stoke City: "I think we lost [Lloyd] Kelly, with a small injury and I think he will be out until the international break. Before the game [against Brighton], [Chris] Mepham was injured and he will not be available for the cup game.

"I think it is always unlucky when you have these two injuries in the same position but I think they'll be ready after the international break and I hope we deal with these injuries."

On Tyler Adams: "I think Tyler is doing well. He did it with the team in the past week. He is doing well and he has been out for almost six months, so we don't expect him to be from the first minute 100%, but I think he is doing very well."

  5. Post update

That's all from Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

  7. Traditional number nines are 'coming back'

Brentford v Arsenal (Wed, 19:45 BST)

    Arsenal

Speaking about the return of 'old-fashioned' strikers, Mikel Arteta said: "I think it is coming back. There are few players. You look at Harry Kane, Haaland, Hojlund, Toney, there are a lot of goals. We are scoring goals and we need to score more from what we create.

"You have many examples and you look at Everton's strikers and it is related to their style.

"They [Brentford] have done incredibly well and credit to [Thomas] Frank and their coaching staff. What they have done is incredible."

  8. Arteta confirms squad rotation against Brentford

Brentford v Arsenal (Wed, 19:45 BST)

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaking about squad rotation before the Gunners' trip to Brentford: "We only had one Champions League game and before they [our players] played with their national teams. It comes from a season with a World Cup, and as well we have been unlucky with injuries. There are some traumatic injuries that we try to avoid but they are a part of football."

"It is true that we had a lot of internationals in the last window and at the moment we have a squad that is not 24 players. To change 11 or 12 players tomorrow, it is not a possibility.

"There are a lot of players that need minutes. Some players have not had many minutes and they are going to have that exposure tomorrow."

  9. Saka a doubt for Bournemouth

Brentford v Arsenal (Wed, 19:45 BST)

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta also issued an update on the fitness of Bukayo Saka in his press conference: "He was limping quite badly after the match and he hasn't been able to participate in the session.

"It is a possibility [he will miss the Bournemouth match], yes."

    Bukayo Saka
  10. Scoring 'the hardest thing to do' - Arteta

Brentford v Arsenal (Wed, 19:45 BST)

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaking about critcism of his strikers' finishing: "We had a huge chance 1v1 [against Tottenham] before the 1-0, and then Gabi [Jesus] had another one. They are defining moments and you have to make the moments.

"We speak [about how against] PSV we were expectational and then three days later we weren't.

"It is the hardest thing to do, to put the ball into the back of the net. We didn't have the efficiency needed."

On recruiting a striker: "We are not thinking at all about that. We have really good players up front. We have some injuries and we will continue with the players we have."

    Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus
  11. 'We have to improve'

Brentford v Arsenal (Wed, 19:45 BST)

    Arsenal

On Sunday's North London derby draw with Tottenham, Mikel Arteta said: "Mistakes happen and that is a part of football. It happens and you have to be lucky that the opponent doesn't punish you.

"It cannot get any worse than that and they proved their quality. It was a turning point in the game and was probably the best moment we had in the game. We have to accept that and move on.

"I think the expectations that we created and the culture [is] that we want to win every single match. We have six players injured, top, top players injured and it is what it is. We want to get better.

"We want to be better but on Wednesday night (against PSV) we were incredible. But then on Saturday we draw and we have to improve."

  12. Arsenal team news - Trossard, Martinelli, Partey out

Brentford v Arsenal (Wed, 19:45 BST)

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaking at his press conference before the Carabao Cup clash with Brentford: "[Rice] hasn't trained yet. He could not carry on in the game and hopefully it is nothing too big.

"We are confident. He was uncomfortable and that was never a good sign. Hopefully he will get better."

On Trossard: "Yeah he is not available. Let's see how he improves. He did some activity and that is why he felt it and he hasn't trained yet, so he's not available for tomorrow."

On Martinelli: "No. For tomorrow it is too short. But those players won't be available."

On Partey: "Still not available. It is a long list, as you said. It is the situation that we have at the moment and we need players back, that's for sure."

  14. Arteta decision 'highlighted lack of trust'

Brentford v Arsenal (We, 19:45 BST)

    Fans voice graphic

Oli Price-Bates, of The Fresh Arsenal podcast, believes a late injury to Leandro Trossard before Sunday's north London derby forced manager Mikel Arteta into a decision that showed a lack of trust in Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith Rowe.

"A forced change led to perhaps too much overthinking over the frontline, with Arteta again trusting Eddie Nketiah to play through the middle and subsequently shifting Gabriel Jesus, his best centre-forward, to the left, a position he’d never featured in for Arsenal," said Price-Bates, with Arteta also missing Gabriel Martinelli.

"It sadly felt like a decision that highlighted a lack of trust in Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith Rowe, both of whom are more natural options from the left.

"That meant Arsenal effectively were missing two of their best front three when they only needed to miss one and brought unfamiliar patterns and combinations in attack. Meanwhile, Nketiah could not get into the game, completing just eight passes and taking one shot."

  15. Arsenal will see draw like 'like two dropped points'

Brentford v Arsenal (Wed, 19:45 BST)

After Arsenal twice lost a lead to draw 2-2 with Tottenham in the north London derby, former forward Bradley Allen told BBC Radio London's The Far Post how this will feel like a defeat to the Gunners:

"The bragging rights were there - 60,000 fans, this is a brilliant Arsenal side. They're not just in the shake-up for top four, they want to push Manchester City all the way.

"They knew they had to win this one. The pressure was on them, they were expected to win even though Spurs came into it under their new manager in a positive form and after a good start to the new season themselves.

"Having twice been in front, I think the disappointing thing for Mikel Arteta would be the sloppiness and the manner of the goals they conceded - and one or two really key chances that they misplaced and didn't finish off in that excellent first 30 minutes that they had.

"I think they'll see that like two dropped points and come May that could be crucial."

  16. The first of three slippery away trips for Arsenal

Brentford v Arsenal (Wed, 19:45 BST)

    Joe Bradshaw, BBC Sport

    8 October 2023.

Arsenal fans have probably already got the date circled in their diaries, with Manchester City scheduled to visit Emirates Stadium.

Home is where the heart is but before that game, Arsenal must navigate three slippery-looking away dates.

First up on Wednesday is a trip to Brentford. The Bees are stumbling in the league amid a difficult injury situation, but Thomas Frank's side are unbeaten in 11 London derbies and always make it uncomfortable at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The Carabao Cup will be fourth on Arsenal's list of priorities, but wins breed confidence and Mikel Arteta will be keen to avoid a slip-up.

  17. Rice injury not serious

Brentford v Arsenal (Wed, 19:45 BST)

    Alex Howell

    Football reporter

    Declan Rice

Tests have shown Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice did not suffer a serious back injury during Sunday's 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

The England international, who has started every league game this season, was substituted at half-time.

After the game, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said Rice had "discomfort in his back" and hoped it was not long term.

Rice, a £100m summer signing, was not expected to be in Arsenal's Carabao Cup squad to face Brentford on Wednesday.

But the 24-year-old could be in contention for their Premier League match against Bournemouth on Saturday.

We may hear more on Rice from Mikel Arteta, when he conducts his pre-match press conference this afternoon.

  19. Barnes could be out for 'months' with foot injury

Newcastle v Man City (Wed, 20:00 BST)

    Harvey Barnes

Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes has had a scan on a "substantial" foot injury and could be out for "months rather than weeks", says boss Eddie Howe.

The 25-year-old limped off after 12 minutes of Sunday's 8-0 thrashing of Sheffield United.

Barnes, signed from Leicester in July for £38m, has had a scan and is waiting to see if surgery is required.

"It's an injury to a part of the foot just below the toe. I think it's quite a substantial injury," Howe said.

"I won't go too technical because I'm not qualified to do so but yes it's a very unusual injury."

  20. 'We have to play better'

    Chelsea v Brighton (Wed,19:45 BST)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

A final word from Roberto de Zerbi on expecting a better performance from his Brighton side, following their 3-1 win at home to Bournemouth on Sunday: "We have to think of ourselves and organise the first 11 to play better than the last game.

"In the first half, wasn't very good."
