  1. 🚨 'Anything can happen in cup game' klaxonpublished at 19:30 British Summer Time 27 September 2023

    Hibernian v St Mirren (19:45)

St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson tells BBC Sportsound that his team have "earned their right" to have a chance of reaching Hampden.

"After a sticky start, the players have proved their mentality and quality," he says. "We're hoping to show that again tonight.

"It's a cup game, anything can happen, the league form goes out the window."

Robinson added that his side will need to be at their very best to defeat Hibs.

"We feel with two out-and-out centre forwards we can really get at them and cause some real problems with our speed and energy," he said.

"We're quietly confident that we've picked the right team and system for tonight."

  2. Can Monty motor to Hampden?published at 19:28 British Summer Time 27 September 2023

    Hibernian v St Mirren (19:45)

In just his third game in charge, Nick Montgomery already has the chance to send his new Hibs side to Hampden.

A draw at Kilmarnock, a win over St Johnstone and progression tonight would be quite the start for the Easter Road boss.

To achieve that, he'll need to get the better of Stephen Robinson's high-flying St Mirren, who are 10 games unbeaten after their weekend victory over Hearts.

The Paisley side are currently second in the Premiership with four wins from six, the first of which came in Leith in a five-goal thriller in their league opener.

More of the same tonight, troops.

There is a real opportunity for Rangers to be lifting the trophy in December, but they will have to get past nights like tonight.

  4. 'Some criticism is extreme' - Bealepublished at 19:25 British Summer Time 27 September 2023

    Rangers v Livingston (20:00)

Rangers manager Michael Beale tells BBC Sportsound: "We need to win tonight. It's our third game in seven days. It's a quarter-final, we're at home, so there's everything to play for. We come into it completely positive.

"The frustration at the weekend was more in possession. We won it, it wasn't a classic. The players are frustrated as well, we're all on the same page in that sense.

"The start of the game was unacceptable against Motherwell. We were all unhappy with our performance level at the weekend. The most important response is to win tonight and get back to Hampden in a semi-final.

"Some of the criticism outside is extreme. Other parts of it I would agree with myself."

  5. Can Rangers up their level?published at 19:23 British Summer Time 27 September 2023

    Rangers v Livingston (20:00)

Not many teams get booed off after winning.

Michael Beale got a taste of that at the weekend, though, when the remaining Ibrox crowd showed displeasure at their side's showing in Sunday's win over Motherwell.

Serious scrutiny just doesn't seem to be shifting from the shoulders of the Rangers manager, who is under huge pressure to beat a Livingston side that has never won in Govan.

With Celtic already out, Beale must make sure he takes this chance to collect his first silverware in December.

  6. About last night...published at 19:21 British Summer Time 27 September 2023

    Kilmarnock 1-2 Hearts (Tue)

That was a bit wild last night, and that was just the weather.

For a game that lacked such attacking quality for large spells, we still got treated to three pretty decent goals and late madness.

After Jorge Grant's lovely finish was cancelled out by Brad Lyons' header, Alex Lowry showed great composure in the 92nd minute to send Hearts to Hampden.

A priceless win for Steven Naismith.

Aberdeen manager Barry Robson has confirmed that James McGarry will be sidelined for four to six weeks after pulling up during their weekend Premiership win over Ross County at Pittodrie.

  8. One Dons change; County make three alterationspublished at 19:18 British Summer Time 27 September 2023

    Ross County v Aberdeen (19:45)

James McGarry has been sent for a scan following his injury in Aberdeen's 4-0 win over tonight's opponents at the weekend and drops out of the squad.

He was replaced at the weekend by Jonny Hayes and the 36-year-old is the only change to the Dons' starting XI. Hayes has shaken off a fitness issue in time, having been subbed on and then subbed off at the weekend.

Ross County boss Malky Mackay makes three changes to the side that were on the receiving end Sunday's drubbing.

Kyle Turner, Josh Reid and Jordan White are all replaced by Josh Sims, Victor Loturi and George Harmon.

  9. Two switches for Hibs & St Mirrenpublished at 19:15 British Summer Time 27 September 2023

    Hibernian v St Mirren (19:45)

Hibernian boss Nick Montgomery is able to call on the attacking prowess of Christian Doidge and Elie Youan for his first foray in the Viaplay Cup.

Injury issues consigned the pair to substitute roles in Saturday’s win over St Johnstone. Jair Tavares and Adam Le Fondre are the players to dip out.

There's no Keanu Baccus or Conor McMenamin for Stephen Robinson's side as Caolan Boyd-Munce slots into midfield and Mikael Mandron partners Toyosi Olusanya up top.

  10. Four changes apiece at Ibroxpublished at 19:13 British Summer Time 27 September 2023

    Rangers v Livingston (20:00)

Rangers make four changes with Ridvan Yilmaz, Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe and Abdallah Sima restored to the starting XI.

Borna Barisic, Scott Wright and Cyriel Dessers drop to the bench, with the injured Rabbi Matondo missing out.

Livingston also make four alterations, starting at the back with Sean Kelly coming into defence, Stephen Kelly and Daniel MacKay added to midfield and Kurtis Guthrie joining the attack.

Andrew Shinnie, Mo Sangare, Scott Pittman and Bruce Anderson make way and all four are listed as substitutes.

Storm Agnes is putting a halt to nothing tonight as the Viaplay Cup quarter-finals conclude with three last-four ties.

Hearts became the first to book a spot in the semi-final draw with last night's dramatic late win at Kilmarnock.

More madness this evening would be smashin'.
