  2. 'Hibs got off lightly'published at 17:51 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    FT: Rangers 4-0 Hibernian

    Kenny Miller
Former Hibs striker on BBC Scotland Sportsound

Rangers were good in the press. They won the ball in the Hibs half so many times. The longer the game went on, Hibs kept giving it away. They got off lightly with four goals.

Hibs are one of the biggest teams in the country and they should be challenging at the top end of the table. If they continue to play themselves into trouble, they'll be looking over their shoulder, not up the way.

There's a lot of work for Nick Montgomery to do.

  3. Not going to change way we play - Montgomerypublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    FT: Rangers 4-0 Hibernian

Hibs head coach Nick Montgomery is still "proud" of the way his players tried to play the ball at Ibrox but thinks mistakes let them down.

"I was happy with the way we started the game and am not going to change the way we play," he says. "I thought mistakes cost us today.

"The first goal, it's nothing to do with the way we play and it gives them a lift. The second goal, I genuinely think it was a foul on Joe Newell.

"Second half, we got a little bit sloppy. They have a new manager, it is a bit of a party atmosphere and we allowed that happen.

"I've been here six weeks and that's the first defeat. It definitely wasn't our day today. We move on and can take positives from the game."

Nick Montgomery has been talking about "lots of positives". Not sure many Hibs fans would agree...

  5. 'Livingston didn't deserve anything'published at 17:42 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    FT: Kilmarnock 3-1 Livingston

Livingston manager David Martindale told Sportsound: "I don't think we deserved anything from the game. Kyle Vassell was the best player on the park and bullied us at times. Their back three managed the game a lot better than our back three.

"I don't think we won enough aerial duels or second balls. At this level you have to do better than we did.

"We got ourselves back in the game, but then we lose the set-play just before half-time which is really disappointing.

"It's going to be a difficult season. From fourth place down, the league will change consistently. We'll take the defeat on the chin and come back ready to go on Saturday."

  6. Kilmarnock front two 'a handful' - McInnespublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    FT: Kilmarnock 3-1 Livingston

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes told Sportsound: "I thought we started strong in the game. We expected a tough match and knew we would have to lot of different aspects well, and I thought we did that.

"We showed good composure, carried a threat and deservedly went in front.

"I love my centre-forwards scoring goals - [Vassell] has got two today and the front two were a handful the whole game. They gave us a real platform to play.

"What pleased me most was the response to the penalty kick - it was immediate and we set out to win the game today. We're fifth in the league and we want to hang about the top six for as long as we can.

"It's important not to get too carried away, but it's important that we win games like today. After a strong start, we stuttered a wee bit, but hopefully today is the start of a few more [wins]."

  7. 'Really positive for Rangers'published at 17:32 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    FT: Rangers 4-0 Hibernian

    Kenny Miller
Former Rangers striker on BBC Scotland Sportsound

It was really positive for Rangers today. There was an energy in the stadium. Philippe Clement needs the fans onside, giving them something to cheer and get behind. You saw that today, definitely aided by a really poor Hibs performance.

  8. Dominant display delights Clementpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    FT: Rangers 4-0 Hibernian

Rangers manager Philippe Clement told BBC Sportsound: "You see that although it was only two days, the players want to do the things that we showed them.

"You see the guys that understand it fast and the guys that need more time, but I saw what I wanted to see - to play dominant, attacking football with a good pressing game.

"I'm most happy that I saw synergy between players and the fans from the first minute. That is one of the biggest strengths of this club, one that we need to have to win trophies.

"The best teams in the world make mistakes - what is important is your reaction, and our reaction was good.

"[Abdallah Sima] is a really interesting player for how we want to play and he can take a big step forward this year.

"We need to see how the players recover, and build physically because Sparta Prague are a really good team and we need to be on our toes to get a result (on Thursday)."

Next up? Champions Celtic at Easter Road...

The Edinburgh side will need a massive improvement on their sorry Ibrox showing. It's incredible how many times they gave the ball away near their own penalty area.

In your first game, it’s just about getting the victory, they’ve played well today.

Philippe Clement doesn’t seem an emotional guy, he seems very serious when you see him on the sidelines.

  11. 'Players gave everything' - Clementpublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    FT: Rangers 4-0 Hibernian

Philippe Clement will be very pleased with such a comfortable victory.

"It's like building a house, you need to start with the fundamentals," says the new Rangers boss.

"We still need to work on a lot of details to make things better but you could see the players giving everything."

Livingston come close with late efforts from Danny Lloyd and James Penrice, but in the end it's a comfortable win for Kilmarnock.

A Kyle Vassell double and a deflected strike from Danny Armstrong seals a first league win since August.

  17. FULL-TIME Rangers 4-0 Hibernianpublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

Philippe Clement gets off to a great start with Rangers.

Two thunderous Abdallah Sima finishes either side of a fine strike from Nicolas Raskin send the Ibrox side on their way to a win that lifts them to within four points of leaders Celtic.

Cyriel Dessers calmly slotted the late fourth as Hibs meekly surrendered a six-game unbeaten run to remain in ninth spot.

The margin of victory could have been much greater, with the visitors continually gifting possession in dangerous areas.

Rangers' Nicolas Raskin is one-on-one with David Marshall but he dithers on the ball and that allows Will Fish to get back and get a nibble on the ball, with Marshall then gathering.

Hibs cut open so easily again.
