  2. 'We could have made it easier for ourselves'published at 19:11 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    FT: Luton 1-1 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, speaking to BBC Sport: "I think we made it very difficult for ourselves.

"It was always going to be difficult coming here, we have seen it with other teams coming here. You have to make it a bit easier for yourself and scoring a goal helps, it changes the dynamic of the game.

"They only need one moment and to be fair they did it very well."

What could Liverpool have done better? "Finishing of the chances. If we scored the first chance we had in the first half it would have completely changed the game. It is part of football.

"We could definitely do better at times but it is a difficult place to come. They are very compact and direct with a lot of strength in the air and you have to be ready for that.

"We could have made it a lot easier for ourselves."

  4. 'Really proud of the club'published at 19:02 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    FT: Luton 1-1 Liverpool

    Luton Town

Luton Town manager Rob Edwards told BBC Sport: "I'm really proud of the whole football club today. It was a big day for us against a big club. We showed a lot of quality in the game.

"I think so [their best 90-minute performance]. It shows you have to for 98 or 99 minutes to get something. I was pleased with our counter-attacking.

"We kept Liverpool thinking there's something to think about here and the goal was the best example of that.

"The players have improved. There were elements of our game a team like this would have exposed.

"Belief. We're going around things the right way. We have a lot of injuries. There are five players who could have started.

"I thought Ross was excellent, Andros too. A lot of the counter-attacking moments came from Ross. He is able to get away and find the space. The goal was the best example of that."

  5. 'We pushed a top, top team all the way'published at 18:59 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    FT: Luton 1-1 Liverpool

    Luton Town

Luton boss Rob Edwards, speaking to Sky Sports on what he is feeling: "Pride, mixed emotions because when you are leading and it goes to that stage of the game you want to see it out but immensely proud of the whole club tonight.

"We pushed a top, top team all the way and we can take a lot of confidence from that.

"You know they will press and push and throw everything at you. There are lads on their legs, they have been working so hard for the 90 minutes before that and you feel Liverpool would get a chance you just hope to ride it out but I can't fault the players.

"I have always believed in this group of players, everyone at this club does and the supporters do. Everyone is connected at the moment.

"We need more points, we do, we have to answer any critics by getting points. We can kick on from here. We are still learning and growing and we want to get better.

"We deserve to be here. We have fought hard to come back from the depths to come back to this position and we don't want to give it up. We will fight hard for it and the players want it. We know it is a huge task, we are going up against giants but we are enjoying it and we want to compete as well."

  7. 'We didn't deserve more than a point'published at 18:54 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    FT: Luton 1-1 Liverpool

    Liverpool

More from Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports about the game: "Credit to Luton and how they defended and how they set up but it was mainly up to us. We had a lot of chances and should have had much more.

"It is a tricky task to stay fully concentrated. Looking at the game I think we didn't deserve more than a point. We could have won the game with the chances we had but now looking at it I think we deserved a point.

On Nunez: "He was offside once or twice. The one ball Mo squares with the header I think Mo could do it himself, that was as well a big chance, but these are the moments. Unlucky, we had other moments.

"He was really involved in everything. It is fine. It is not our dream result but we are always old enough to accept them."

On being booked: "I was surprised by the yellow card. I deserve a lot of cards in my life but this one I do not know why."

  8. 'A result both teams deserve'published at 18:51 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    FT: Luton 1-1 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to BBC Sport: "Wonderful highlight in a game with not a lot of highlights and Luis came on and scored a goal. It's really great.

"We should have done better. Credit to Luton. We had our moments but weren't calm enough to finish our situations off.

"When you go 1-0 down and score an equaliser it's a result you rather like. Before the game I wouldn't have thought so. It's a result both teams deserve.

"We played without counter-pressing in the first half which I almost take personally and I told the boys. I can't remember a lot of times we won the ball back and that's not cool.

"It's one of these days. Time goes by and it's not getting easier. It wasn't our best day."

  9. 'A wonderful moment, but doesn't change the situation'published at 18:48 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    FT: Luton 1-1 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports about Luis Diaz: "A wonderful moment but it doesn't change the situation. Most important thing is that his father gets released.

"It is wonderful he wanted to be here. That's it, for us a super important goal and for him very important and emotional, but that's it."

Felt he could play an important part? "He can always do that. When he is on the pitch he is always involved in special things.

"We knew he would be a threat, we didn't know how long he would play because he only had a few sessions with the team but that is not the most important part today. He scored the goal but we need to see some improvement in Colombia."

    FT: Luton 1-1 Liverpool

    Luton Town

Luton's Chiedozie Ogbene, speaking to Sky Sports: "I was praying for a VAR check [for the late equaliser] but it was a clean goal. You can't fault the effort tonight. We are going in slightly disappointed we didn't get a win against a very good Liverpool team and that is how far we have come.

"If you can't win, don't lose and that is what we did today. It is all about momentum. We are trying to create an atmosphere here. The manager said before to believe in the game plan and be patient. In this league you just have to take your moments."

  13. 'We take this as a plus'published at 18:41 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    FT: Luton 1-1 Liverpool

    Luton Town

Luton goalscorer Tahith Chong, speaking to Sky Sports: "When you score that late you are thinking of winning the game but you know they have quality and will keep coming and coming. I am very proud of the team and proud to score.

"We have grown every single game. We are still learning and want to improve. We will take this as a plus and we want to keep getting better and better and next time maybe we will get the three points.

"We want to create an atmosphere here that makes it very difficult for every team that comes here."

    Liverpool

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson on Luis Diaz: "It says a lot about his character and inner strength. I can't imagine what he's going through.

"We're supporting him and feeling his pain but for him it's a different level. Football can bring joy to someone who is struggling. Football is bringing joy to Luis at this moment.

"He scored a fantastic goal for us which was really important.

"When you're on the pitch you focus on the job. He did it for us."

Luton will feel like they've suffered a defeat today because they held on for so long and conceded late in the game.

At the end, they were a bit panicky, tired and didn't close Liverpool down. Panicked to clear the ball and didn't retain possession. That's what it ultimately cost Luton in the end.

Luton have done really well, but it's still disappointment for them.

Liverpool never gave up and were always a threat going forward. They got their reward in the end by continuously pushing against Luton's defence.
