Chelsea have lost their last four Premier League meetings with Man City – all by a 1-0 scoreline – since a 2-1 away win in May 2021.

The Blues haven’t lost five consecutive league games against an opponent since a run of seven against Blackburn between 1993 and 1996.

In all competitions, City have won their last six meetings with Chelsea by an aggregate score of 10-0 – only against Burnley (8), Fulham (7) and Wigan (7) have they had longer winning runs without conceding.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, on Sky Sports: "When Mauricio Pochettino was in Tottenham it is a different system but it is the same.

"He has a press and intensity with a top team he is really good. Stamford Bridge is always a tough place to go."

On Jeremy Doku starting: "I rely on Jack Grealish with Phil Foden, Jeremy Doku and Bernardo Silva honestly I do not have any doubts about what they [players] offer me.

"Jeremy is special in the final third and a young player and you will see how he behaves in these stages."

  3. 'What a strange opening 11 games it has been'published at 16:22 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

Chelsea v Man City (16:30 GMT)

Just like anyone who was fortunate enough to be at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday night, I am still recovering from watching one of the most extraordinary and ludicrous football matches I have ever seen. The pure, unadulterated chaos which unfolded between Spurs and Chelsea will live long in the memory.

It is another chapter in a fierce rivalry that has new-found spice with Mauricio Pochettino at the helm - if it was possible to get even more fiery!

The irony that the Blues’ biggest win of the season came in arguably their worst performance of the campaign so far sums up what a strange opening 11 league games it has been for the club.

There were plenty of moments where it felt like they were conspiring to somehow allow the nine men of Tottenham to inexplicably come away from the game with something.

Giving away cheap free-kicks, repeatedly getting caught offside, lacking leadership across the pitch and threatening to get sucked into the raucous atmosphere in N17.

But having said all that, the only thing that ultimately matters is the three points

Chelsea and their fans must take the positives from the landmark win against Spurs - as well as the psychological boost of finally picking up three points against a traditional ‘big’ side in the Premier League for the first time since they beat Newcastle way back in March 2022!

However, they will be under no illusions that if they play like that against champions Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, they will be in for yet more misery at Stamford Bridge.

  4. 'You knew immediately the talent he had' - Maloney on Dokupublished at 16:20 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

Chelsea v Man City (16:30 GMT)

    Mike Minay
    BBC Radio Manchester

Last Saturday, Jeremy Doku became the youngest player to rack up four assists in a Premier League game. He has impressed with his trickery, pace, shooting and passing since arriving from Rennes in the summer.

Shaun Maloney was a coach in the Belgium national team and was first made aware of the winger at under-16 level.

"Roberto [Martinez, former Belgium national manager] said there was this really talented young player. I watched his game, started to watch Anderlecht and Jeremy broke through the first team really quickly and you knew immediately the talent he had.

"The one-v-one talent he has is outstanding."

That's something all three of us picked up on this week's We're Not Really Here podcast. He's one of the most exciting players City have signed under Pep Guardiola.

"If someone is good one v one, it breaks your [opponents'] structure really quickly," Maloney added.

"We had him in the Euros that got delayed because of Covid. Last game in that tournament against Italy he was the best player on the pitch. It's no surprise he can do the things he's doing.

"The Jeremy I see now is credit to Rennes and City. His final product is good - four assists. He must take a lot of credit."

You can hear if Doku plays, and how City get on at Chelsea, with full match commentary on BBC Radio Manchester anywhere in the UK at 16:30 GMT on Sunday

Manchester City have won 1-0 in each of the past four Premier League meetings.

The only opponents Chelsea have failed to score against in more than four successive top-flight fixtures are Newcastle United.

City can become the first club to win four consecutive top-flight away fixtures against Chelsea since Leeds in 1973 to 1991.

  6. 'Everyone in that changing room has hope'published at 16:16 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

    Brighton 1-1 Sheff Utd

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United wing-back Jayden Bogle to Premier League Productions:

“I think it’s a good result, probably a bit of frustration that we couldn’t nick it at the end and I'm frustrated with myself as I should have scored.

"We've had the mentality that if we go behind, we stick together and make sure scoreline doesn’t increase as at 1-0 you can always get back in the game

“After international break it’s going to be a big run of games for us and we need to pick up more points.

“Everyone will have chance to reflect and look at how the games have gone so far. You have to have that hope else there's no point in competing and everyone in that changing room has got hope."

  7. 'Title race is still early doors'published at 16:15 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

    FT: Liverpool 3-0 Brentford

    Liverpool

Liverpool goalscorer Diogo Jota speaking to PLP: "Yeah always nice to be back at Anfield and to get a win. It was important to leave with the three points."

On Mohamed Salah's consistency: "He is always there, is a goal threat, creates chances and is really important for us like everyone knows. Congratulations to him on his 200th goal.

"We are different players obviously and we try to do our best to help the team. That is what we want to keep doing."

On the title race: "It's still early doors. We need to keep winning to be able to be in that title fight towards the end. It is a long road.

"You never know. It's still early days and people are fighting for their clubs. That's what we like to see. Hopefully we are there at the end."

  8. 'Man City are a team which are solid'published at 16:14 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

Chelsea v Man City (16:30 GMT)

    Chelsea

Chelsea manger Mauricio Pochettino, speaking on Sky Sports: "We will see if we can deliver what we want on the game to challenge them.

"In the way we want to play and it will be tough they are a team which are solid and playing a long period together.

"We have the same ideas and philosophies to challenge them but it is about in believing that we can win the game and to dominate and play in the way we want."

On Cole Palmer: "He wants to be calm and is a talented player and he will get more experience.

"He has the capacity to link and be a playmaker with the team I think he is a very important player for us.

"We need to give him time to learn and to improve and then see in a few years - he will be a big player."

The Football News Show: Is Nicolas Jackson Chelsea's new version of Didier Drogba?

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson scored his first Premier League hat-trick in their 4-1 victory at Tottenham - but has it done enough to win over their fans?

Chelsea podcaster Tom Overend tells The Football News Show that while the jury is still out on the Senegal forward, Jackson reminds him of a young Didier Drogba - while former Premier League midfielder Michael Brown believes the 22-year-old will thrive in a team that creates plenty of chances.

Mauricio Pochettino has backed Nicolas Jackson to prosper over time at Chelsea.

The summer signing has drawn scrutiny for his finishing this season and had found the net three times in 12 games before netting a hat-trick in Monday's 4-1 win over Tottenham.

"It’s a process," Pochettino said. "I haven’t changed my view about him. He scored three goals; it should have been six, of course. It is never enough.

"It is about being responsible, keeping calm and relaxed. With time, he will score goals. Monday will help him be less nervous and approach games in a different way.”

  11. 'We keep fighting for our lives'published at 16:09 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

    Brighton 1-1 Sheff Utd

    Sheffield United

    Sheffield United midfielder Oliver Norwood:

"Brighton are a very good team so it's a good point away from home - any point in the Premier League is a good point.

"They are competing in Europe so for us to come here and get a point is good - I know they went down to 10 men but even 11 v 11 we were starting to get a grip on the game.

"It was important to get the goal quickly after they went down to 10 and we pushed after that but it wasn't to be. It was important to make the extra man count and we threw bodies forward but couldn’t find that winner.

"We have to be content as it's a difficult place to come so it’s a great point and now we have a couple of weeks’ break and hopefully get a couple of bodies back as we've got well documented injuries.

"It’s been tough but we keep fighting for our lives and that’s all we can do."

  12. Sutton's predictionpublished at 16:07 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

Chelsea v Man City (16:30 GMT)

    Sutton predictionsImage source, BBC Sport

Chris Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League matches again this season, against a variety of guests.

This week, he takes on two Manchester City fans - frontman and guitarist Tom Ogden and drummer Joe Donovan from indie band Blossoms - and a Chelsea supporter - Madness frontman Suggs.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-0

Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson scored possibly the worst Premier League hat-trick there has been last time out against Spurs, but it is still a hat-trick and it might boost his confidence a bit.

The same could be said about the impact of that win on the rest of the Chelsea team too. It doesn't matter how they did it, they won when not many people gave them much of a chance.

This result really depends on how City play, though, rather than what Chelsea try to do. Pep Guardiola's side have a few injuries to contend with but it doesn't really make much difference who comes in or out of their team. Their squad is just so strong.

Guardiola also has a nice problem in terms of who to pick on the left, Jeremy Doku or Jack Grealish. You never know with Pep - because Doku has been playing so well, he will probably leave him out for the next six games.

Whoever plays, City are just relentless. They will win by two goals, it's only really a question of whether Chelsea will score or not.

    Tom's prediction: 1-3

    Joe's prediction: 0-3

    Suggs' prediction: 4-1

As any live texter will tell you, you're only as good as the game you get to write about. And this final game of the day in the Premier League has a fair bit to live up to after that first lot of fixtures.

This is Phil’s final live text for the BBC after a distinguished career here lasting over 15 years. He’s been an excellent journalist – live texting most of England’s recent tournament agonies as well as writing many epic long reads - and an even better friend. And he’ll absolutely hate that we’re saying any of this.

Thanks for everything Dawkesy… and try not to mess up this final live text after the big build-up.
