Cole Palmer would love a goal today, to show City they may have been mistaken to let him go. He has space on the right to charge into but after cutting inside is crowded out.

He gets a second sniff as the ball is headed back into his own box by Rodri but can't beat the towering Ederson in the air.

City have seen off what was a bit of an early dart from Chelsea, albeit a muted one. They are now in their usual pattern of tapping the ball around patiently at the back in search of opportunities further forward.

As soon as Jackson got through there, you could see he looked up and saw Kyle Walker there and you knew he didn't fancy it.

    Brighton 1-1 Sheff Utd

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom to BBC Match of the Day:

“Half-time was big for us, we needed it, we were only one down and we could make clear changes and I thought the second half was different game.

“When we panicked and lost composure Brighton exploited space really well but we got more comfortable as the game wore on.

“We were in really good moments up until the red card but it affected them more than it affected us and we were able to score straight away.

“We could have plenty more points out of plenty of games and it's all right me saying that but this is the evidence now we've needed - in the last two games we’ve took points and it’s been the other team that’s been holding on."

Chelsea are developing a really strong and nicely balanced central midfield trio of Gallagher, Fernandez and Caicedo. Their sheer work rate is massively underrated and it gives the likes of Palmer, Jackson and Sterling a platform in matches. I think they’re going to be the difference today against City.

  9. 'You need to take chances'published at 16:37 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

    FT: Liverpool 3-0 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford defender Ben Mee speaking to Sky Sports: "Obviously disappointed to concede three goals. It felt like we were in the game for long periods. We created chances in the first half. It feels like when you come to Anfield and you get chances, you need to take them.

"They are a top side but we were brave and were good on the counter-attack. They transition really well and have quality players so it's always difficult.

"We have been in great form. There's a good feeling around the place and there still is. We'll have the break now and we have a big game against Arsenal coming up so we'll look forward to that. We defended well for long periods and created chances ourselves.

"We are always competitive against big sides. We always want to come and win games. We always give it a go. We will continue to do that. We will see where we're at and see where we go."

On Wataru Endo's tackle on Christian Nørgaard: "It didn't look like a great tackle in real time. I know Christian Norgaard has got a few nasty cuts just under his knee. It looked a foul in real time. I can't believe he didn't give a foul.

"Whether it's a red card, I don't know, I've not seen the replays but it's one for people to talk about. You don't want to see players sent off but I was surprised it wasn't a foul."

  13. 'We solved the problems they posed'published at 16:34 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

    Brighton 1-1 Sheff Utd

    Sheffield United

Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom to Sky/Premier League Productions:

“Listen we’ve got to be satisfied with a point, having gone behind against a good team. Although we're disappointed with the goal, I thought they passed the ball well and caused us problems.

“We wanted a bit more quality with the ball because when we won the ball back we were either in too much of a rush or lacked composure.

“I thought it was a really good second half. We stayed in the game, got stronger and stronger, started solving the problems they were posing and half-time was really important for us.

“I felt we had good momentum - Brighton’s most dangerous moments second half were on the counter even before the sending-off which was a good reflection of how aggressive we were

“It would have been lovely to get the three points but we can’t be greedy. It’s something to build on, we’ve had a bit of bad luck and we could have been more on points but we have to be grateful for four from the last two games."

    FT: Liverpool 3-0 Brentford

    Liverpool

Liverpool goalscorer Diogo Jota to BBC MOTD: "The result gives us a clear victory but we know how hard it is. We are very happy with the clean sheet and the way we performed today.

"We did our best on set-pieces. We didn't give away a great amount of them until especially we were already in front. In the end it's a clean sheet and three points.

"We had a couple of VAR decisions that delayed our first goal a bit but we finally got it and with the quality we have we could score two more.

"We are still adapting to each other and it's still early days in the season but we will find the best ways to play together and hopefully we can keep winning matches."

On Manchester City next: "It's true. It's always a big game, especially at the Etihad. Let's see how it goes. There's a break now then when we come back we'll think about that one."
