  1. 'Emma Hayes' legacy is unquestionable'published at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    Tanya Oxtoby
Northern Ireland manager on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

I think Emma's legacy at Chelsea is unquestionable. She has built that club from the ground up and whoever steps into that job has massive shoes to fill. I wish her every success where she goes and I know she will be pushing on to win everything possible before the end of the season.

  2. 'Trailblazer' Hayes hailed for 'extraordinary' impactpublished at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    "The end of an era".

That is how former Chelsea player Claire Rafferty described news that manager Emma Hayes will leave the club at the end of the Women's Super League season after 12 years at the helm.

Chelsea made the announcement on Saturday, saying the 47-year-old will pursue "a new opportunity outside the WSL and club football".

Former England midfielder Fara Williams pondered how Chelsea would fill a "massive gap", as all signs point to Hayes heading stateside to become head coach of the United States women's national team.

Others have reflected on Hayes' "tremendous" and "trailblazing" career in London, praised her "high expectations" and highlighted her influence on England's top flight.

  3. Chelsea manager Hayes to leave club at end of seasonpublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

Chelsea were 6-0 winners against Aston Villa yesterday but that certainly wasn't the major talking point after the match.

The Women's Super League club announced that Emma Hayes will depart at the end of the season.

Hayes will pursue "a new opportunity outside the WSL and club football," said Chelsea.

  4. 'Manchester United have been wasteful'published at 19:48 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    HT: Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

    Tanya Oxtoby
Northern Ireland manager on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

I thought both sides had good opportunities and Brighton managed to take one of theirs and United have been very wasteful.

Brighton have been dangerous and that is something United have struggled with in the past, getting that balance behind the ball.

  5. HALF-TIMEpublished at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

Elisabeth Terland's goal gives Brighton a slender lead at the break.

  6. 'Massive saves from Baggaley'published at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

    Tanya Oxtoby
Northern Ireland manager on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Those are the kind of saves Baggaley made last week [against Chelsea]. That is massive before half-time to keep Brighton in the lead and to keep the pressure on Manchester United.

Manchester United have a corner and it's Sophie Baggaley to the rescue.

Firstly she pushes an effort onto the bar and then she gets up so quickly to deny Millie Turner from close range.

Then Turner strikes the side netting.

    Brilliant goalkeeping from Baggaley.

  10. 'Galton is a threat off the left'published at 19:39 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

    Tanya Oxtoby
Northern Ireland manager on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

That is exactly what we were talking about earlier on. Galton comes inside and she should bury that really.

That's the problem they have got is that if you allow Manchester United to come down the right side, Galton will come in off the left and get into good positions.

Jayde Riviere puts in a brilliant ball but Leah Galton heads over the bar.

Guro Bergsvand just did enough to put her off.

  12. 'United need to be more creative'published at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

    Tanya Oxtoby
Northern Ireland manager on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

It is great defending for that [Malard] opportunity. I'd like to see a little bit more creativity from Man United with the players they have on the pitch.

I'd like to see them be a little bit more patient and create the spaces for themselves.

Geyse is on the ball again and her cross is cleared once again.

That final ball has to improve if Manchester United are to get something from this game.

    Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

Melvine Malard is trying to find Leah Galton in the box but an excellent last ditch clearance from Guro Bergsvand stops the pass.

Millie Turner then fires over the bar from the resulting corner.

  15. 'She has to score!'published at 19:32 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

    Tanya Oxtoby

Geyse has got to finish that. It is a lucky deflection and it's fallen in her path. It's a great first touch but she has not put it away.

That's been the difference so far. Brighton have taken their chances and Manchester United haven't. Sometimes in games like this when you don't take your chances, it can come back to bite you.

  16. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 36 mins

    Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

Geyse is denied by the woodwork!

She shoots low and hard but it bounces off the outside of the post and out.

The Brazilian forward is understandably frustrated not to get on the scoresheet.

The ball bounces off Geyse's knee and into the gloves of Sophie Baggaley.

Work to do for Manchester United.

  18. 'The lead is what Brighton deserve'published at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

    Tanya Oxtoby
Northern Ireland manager on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

This is an interesting one because you can look at it in two ways. Manchester United are playing themselves into trouble but you have to give credit to Brighton for pressing.

They have got players in good advanced positions and it's probably what they deserve.

GOAL - Brighton 1-0 Man Utdpublished at 19:25 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    Elisabeth Terland (30 mins)

    Brighton are in front!

Maisie Symonds fires the ball into Elisabeth Terland whose superb control sets her up for a brilliant finish as she drills the ball low into the bottom corner.

The home side have grown into the game and they have their reward.

  20. 'Great save'published at 19:25 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    Brighton 0-0 Man Utd

    Tanya Oxtoby
Northern Ireland manager on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

You can see the interchange here between Riviere and Malard and that has allowed them to open it out and switch play.

It should have been a tap-in and it was a great save by Sophie Baggaley.
