Dundee boss Tony Docherty tells BBC Sportsound: "It did look like two teams that have not been playing competitive football for a while. I was pleased with how we started - on the front foot, our centre backs were stepping out, we were getting into good areas.

"But after 10 or 15 minutes, it became a game that didn't suit us. It became a bit stodgy and that favoured the opposition. So the overriding feeling is disappointment, but the important thing to focus on is the unbeaten home run, and we kept a clean sheet.

On substitute Charlie Reilly: "He's got pace, athleticism, he's positive and he's a great finisher. This step up is a big demand and his body is adapting to that. He'll be a pivotal member of our squad now he's back. I thought he was going to score the winner at the end."

Kind words on Sportsound for Tony Docherty, but what's the man himself saying to it?

Former St Johnstone manager on BBC Sportsound

I think the Dundee recruitment was good and Tony Docherty will know more as the season goes on.

He's brought a couple from abroad and a couple Scottish boys from the lower leagues. I think he'll be happy with their start in the league.

It's a good start to life as a manager. I was happy for him to take that step away from Derek [McInnes]. They were like clones next to eachother. One of them started shouting at me and then the other started shouting at me.

    Michael Stewart
Former Hearts & Hibs midfielder on BBC Sportsound

Tony Docherty has had a good, solid start with Dundee. Eight points from eight games, I don't think he'll be too disappointed. They're only three points off fourth place with a game in hand on most.

Ross County boss Malky Mackay tells BBC Sportsound: "It was a game that both needed. Nip and tuck, we both and chances - I felt we had clearer chances.

"I'm looking at the goal again and again - Colin [Steven] has told me it's subjective. He thought Jordan's [White] movement towards the ball interfered with the goalie. They're so far away from the goalkeeper. I'm amazed it's not been given. I thought it was a poor decision.

"I think we can be better. Tony [Docherty] might say the same. Dundee have been getting plaudits and rightly so. So for us to come down and get a point, sometimes we have to be happy with that."

A night with 21 shots and no goals to show for it. Dundee dominated most of the stats - nine shots on target, more possession, more touches in the opposition box - but they couldn't sufficiently test Ross Laidlaw.

Of course, it will encourage Tony Dochery that his side created so much - and how well his substitutes did - but these are the kind of nights they need to take maximum points from. That's five draws from eight outings now.

Ross County, too, might feel aggrieved to return north with a mere point. However, the final ball was all too often chipped into the willing arms of Carson, instead of onto the head of White or Simon Murray.

Admittedly way too early for a six-pointer, but both sides lacked a clinical edge that they will need to find before the season is done - or else rely on St Johnstone's poor form to continue.

This was a good wee battle when Diego Pineda was brought into the fray.

The Mexican gave a tired County backline a torrid time of it, racing in behind and getting his shots away quickly.

Jack Baldwin will be glad to see the back of him, but that cameo will certainly give Tony Docherty something to think about for the weekend.

  10. Robertson shines for Dundeepublished at 22:07 British Summer Time 24 October 2023

    FT: Dundee 0-0 Ross County

Hands up if you were best player on the park.

It's a game of opinions, but for my money, nobody shone brighter on a bleak night in Dundee than 20-year-old Finlay Robertson.

If his teammates had been on the same wavelength and reached his high-quality deliveries, the hosts may well be sitting in the top six tonight.

  11. 'VAR takes emotion from the game'published at 22:04 British Summer Time 24 October 2023

    FT: Dundee 0-0 Ross County

    Callum Davidson
Former St Johnstone manager on BBC Sportsound

VAR takes that bit of excitement out when you score. You think 'I can't run down the pitch like a madman celebrating'. That's the biggest thing for me, it's taken a lot of the emotion from the game.

I would keep it, because it's good for offsides and handballs, but it's clinical. I'd like to see it move faster.

  12. Misfiring Countypublished at 22:01 British Summer Time 24 October 2023

    FT: Dundee 0-0 Ross County

Ross County have now failed to score in four of their eight Premiership games. Only St Johnstone, who sit bottom, have failed to get on the scoresheet more this season.

Malky Mackay said at the start of the season that he's happy with his attacking options. It seems that he still hasn't identified a way to find them more regularly.

    FT: Dundee 0-0 Ross County

    Michael Stewart
Former Hearts & Hibs midfielder on BBC Sportsound

I see more than enough from both those sides that I see them being able to steer clear from the bottom of the table.

it's inevitable that the Dundee supporters are coming to be nervous about staying up. I think at the end of the season they'll be preparing themselves for another season in the Premiership.

  14. Brown feeling bluepublished at 21:53 British Summer Time 24 October 2023

    FT: Dundee 0-0 Ross County

Here's that moment James Brown thought he had fired County into the lead, and potentially onto the path to a big three points.

He was denied in the first half by a great Trevor Carson save, before VAR deprived him of a rare career goal.

  15. Offside explainedpublished at 21:51 British Summer Time 24 October 2023

It was Jordan White who was in an offside position and deemed to be interfering with play as the ball went through to Trevor Carson before the goalkeeper fumbled.

Even though it wasn't White who scored the goal, that's why the effort from James Brown didn't stand.

Far from a classic, but I've seen worse goalless draws in my time, folks.

Plenty of reaction to come. I, for one, am very curious to hear what Malky Mackay has to say about that disallowed goal.

  18. FULL-TIME Dundee 0-0 Ross Countypublished at 21:42 British Summer Time 24 October 2023

Deadlock in Dundee as neither side can find the breakthrough, despite Ross Laidlaw having to make a decent save at the death from Charlie Reilly's effort.

Ross County thought they had when James Brown popped up to prod the ball home, but a controversial VAR intervention kept the game goalless.

A point apiece means Dundee stay 10th while County remain 11th.
