I really like Luke McCowan for Dundee. He's a player that can make a difference, create something out of nothing.

Luke McCowan's stunner in August gave Dundee their last league win.

I think it's fair to say Dundee are still finding their feet in the top-flight again.

They've only lost once in their last five, to league leaders Celtic, but in that time, they've won just the one game - a slender victory over Hearts at Dens Park.

St Johnstone are the only team to fire off fewer shots than Tony Docherty's side this season, despite the Dee boasting some tidy players in forward areas.

  3. Can County find frontmen?published at 19:36 British Summer Time 24 October 2023

Jordan White. Simon Murray. Eamonn Brophy. Alex Samuel.

I'm not saying any of them are world-beating strikers, but as quarter of rotating frontmen, a club of County's stature can be fairly content in have competent options at this level.

The task now, starting tonight, is providing them with chances. Murray, in particular, has shown this campaign he can do the business when afforded the oportunity.

  4. The long wait endspublished at 19:35 British Summer Time 24 October 2023

    Dundee v Ross County (19:45)

It's not too often there's a 24-day hiatus in a team's domestic season. Even in the days before Scotland were absolutely class, international breaks didn't drag on quite that long.

But after Steve Clarke's side secured their spot in Germany next summer, the weather at home had its say on the Premiership's return.

Dundee had been preparing for a trip to Pittodrie on Saturday evening, though the game would quickly succumb to Storm Babet and was postponed on Friday afternoon. County's game with St Mirren was also called off on Saturday morning.

Can we expect some ring rust this evening?

Dundee boss Tony Docherty tells BBC Sportsound: "It's been a long time. Our last game was the Hibs game at Easter Road when we had a real bit of momentum building up. Credit to the boys, they've been brilliant in training. They're champing at the bit, they're desperate for the game.

"The performance levels have been good. I think we could have a few more points, based on that. But we are where we are. The league is so tight but I'm more interested in building a fortress here. Drew with Motherwell, beat Hearts and drew with Kilmarnock with 10 men for sixty minutes.

"I remember being at a game County won here 5-0. This is a different team, and I'll be looking to put that record to bed.

"Coming here, the youth was always the appeal. Talented, young, hungry. Lyall Cameron, Fin Robertson and Josh Mulligan - who I'm missing tonight."

  6. 'We're always going to be an underdog' - Mackaypublished at 19:31 British Summer Time 24 October 2023

    Dundee v Ross County (19:45)

Ross County manager Malky Mackay tells BBC Sportsound: "We've been off for three weeks now and that's frustrating, so I'm sure both teams are desperate to get going again.

"You need to keep the players focused and we hard a really good, hard session on Saturday when our game was cancelled.

"There's a lot of travelling at this club and I'm not enjoying the new roadworks on the A9!

"We're always going to be an underdog punching above our weight in this league. There's no easy game for us.

"Players will come to the Highlands for a period of time and then want to move on, we're a stepping stone for players and I don't have a problem with that. Every year I've been here we have 10 coming in and 10 going.

"It's a really good group this year in terms of culture and ability."

Tonight's game is the perfect definition of a 'six pointer', and it’s a fantastic opportunity for County to lay down a marker against a direct rival and get their season back on track.

County fans only have to look back to their most recent midweek trip to Dens Park where a dominant 5-0 win against the home side was a springboard to success for the rest of the season.

County have a strong record in recent seasons against Dundee. County are unbeaten in their last seven trips to Dens, winning five and scoring 14 goals in the process. Malky Mackay will be hoping his side can continue that record on Tuesday night.

We take on Ross County tonight under the lights at Dens in our rearranged fixture.

Both teams will be looking for the win here to move onto double figures in the league table. The league table is still close and there is potential of both teams being placed anywhere between fifth and 11th before the end of the night.

The last time we welcomed County to Dens early in the season for a midweek game, it ended in a 5-0 triumph for County.

Let's hope for a different ending tonight.

Dundee fans won't have fond recent memories of coming up against The Staggies.

The last two sides were both in the Premiership, in the season of Dundee's relegation in 2021/22, it was County who prevailed in all three meetings between the teams.

They also stuck 10 goals past them in the trio of games, including five in the the first league fixture between the pair of the campaign.

That game was at Dens Park too. They couldn't, could they?

It's a huge night in Europe's elite club competition, and we've got you covered as Dundee welcome Ross County in the Scottish Premiership.

Neither side are exactly flying high in the top-flight, with only St Johnstone languishing below tonight's teams.

Might be too early for a six-pointer, but we could look back at tonight as a big point in the seasons of both. Let's get crackin'.
