  2. Martinez Losa takes 'total responsibility' for losspublished at 22:00 British Summer Time 27 October 2023

    FT Netherlands 4-0 Scotland

Scotland boss Pedro Martinez Losa spoke to BBC Scotland about the result: "A tough loss, this is not what we expected today.

"We are also trying to think positively to recover quickly. Football does not give you much time."

On what went wrong, he said: "The opponents are one of the best teams in the world, we are also missing a lot of international players.

"The atmosphere, which we are very jealous of, helped them to grow into the game. Netherlands have two world class teams and they were better than us tonight.

"I assume total responsibility because I think this team is capable of being better but that is part of the game."

  3. 'We fell short in too many areas today' - Corsiepublished at 21:56 British Summer Time 27 October 2023

    FT: Netherlands 4-0 Scotland

Scotland captain Rachel Corsie knows the side 'fell short' tonight as their wait for a Nations League win goes on.

She told BBC Scotland: "It is difficult, we knew that we were coming here to face a good side but I just felt we had to try and disrupt their momentum a little more than we did and I think that is what is frustrating.

"We are normally at it defensively and I just felt we gave them too much space. The early goal is always tough to come back from. We tried the second half to come out and find a way back into it but we just fell short in too many areas today.

When asked if the side were missing too much quality on the night, Corsie said: "I think we have quality, we just gave them too many options when they did have the ball.

"We know we do have a second opportunity and I sometimes think that is the good thing in football, there is always another game around the corner and we want to make sure we at least put it right with a performance on Tuesday that we can at least get a bit more out of the game.

On picking themselves up for the game on Tuesday:

"You have to sit in the discomfort. For all their good play I do not think the goals are ones we will look back on and be really disappointed by.

"In terms of picking ourselves up, we are a good group, we look after each other whether we win or lose and we have done that plenty of times."

  4. Evans 'proud' of 100th cap on 'disappointing' eveningpublished at 21:52 British Summer Time 27 October 2023

    FT: Netherlands 4-0 Scotland

Scotland's Lisa Evans has been given some immediate reaction to BBC Scotland.

"All in all well be disappointed with that performance," she said.

"Another go on Tuesday we need to make it better, do better, and put it right.

"The manager told us to be brave, get on the ball, and show character in the game

"Holland are a top, top side...to be honest they gave us a footballing lesson tonight.

On earning her 100th cap this evening, she adds: "I’m obviously delighted, it’s honestly such a special group and now I’m one of the older players trying to pass on what I know.

"Happy, delighted and proud to have made 100 appearances now."

I think they will be quite happy that they are playing them again in the next few days, I think that is what you want.

It is easy to come back from a loss, there will be so much to work on in the lead up to Tuesday.

  9. FULL-TIME Netherlands 4-0 Scotlandpublished at 21:36 British Summer Time 27 October 2023

It never quite seemed like it was going to be Scotland's night.

A flurry of first-half chances for the hosts resulted in well-taken goals from Danielle van de Donk and Esmee Brugts.

Scotland had a few chances through Claire Emslie and a powerful Kirsty Hanson strike but failed to find a route to goal before the interval.

Unfortunately, the were also unable to in the second half.

Lineth Beerensteyn notched a second-half double as the hosts ran away with the game with another couple of excellent finishes. One dinked over Lee Gibson, another expertly headed down off of the turf.

Notably, Vivianne Miedema made her long-awaited return to international action after a nightmare ACL injury lay-off, having made her club return at the weekend for Arsenal.

Kirsty Hanson chases down the ball with some great determination for so late in the game but the referee gives a foul against her.

Both players were at it on the edge of the box and whoever emerged with the ball was likely to be penalised.

    Just one of those nights.

Jamie-Lee Napier is on for Rachel McLauchlan at right-back.

Jenna Clark is on for Amy Rodgers, but will slot into the defence with captain Rachel Corsie shifting into the midfield.

England are leading Belgium 1-0, Lauren Hemp's goal the only thing separating the sides.

If things stay this way Netherlands will be top of the group with England in second place but joint on six points.

An opportunity finally falls for Martha Thomas but she ends up swiping at fresh air from close range following some smart play from Kirsty Hanson.

An offside flag was raised promptly anyway.

Thomas has been forced to cut a rather isolated figure this evening.

Another cutting attack from the hosts.

On a hat-trick in the centre of the box, Beerensteyn receives the ball and opts to nudge it out wide.

Perhaps she's hoping for the return ball and trying to shift the keeper out of her way but not many strikers would opt to not shoot there.

Scotland aren't exactly complaining that she decided not to, though.

Some patient play from Victoria Pelova as she sends the ball back inside, allowing the hosts time to whip it into the box.

Beerensteyn is lurking on the shoulder of Rachel Corsie and nods the ball up off of the turf, making it all the more difficult for Lee Gibson to try and stop.

SHe's unable to and the deficit increases.

That big cheer you've just heard is for Vivianne Miedema.

The Arsenal striker, who has literally just returned from an ACL injury, has started to warm-up.

She has a wry smile on her face as she attempts to brush off the constant adulation being showered upon her from the stands.
