Everyone wants to play attacking, entertaining football but you also want to make sure you do not give any opportunities to the opposition.

If Scotland need to go long, they have to do it.

Beerensteyn dances around in the box after a smart Renate Jansen pass but Lee Gibson does well to not be tricked into diving early and diverts the shot away.

A tame effort from Rachel McLauchlan doesn't trouble the goalkeeper as Scotland have a half-chance.

It came after a few passes were zipped about on the edge of the box but the final shot is too tame.

Better from the visitors, though.

Nothing doing from it though unfortunately.

The wind has been knocked right out of Scotland's sails following that third Netherlands goal.

Kirsty Hanson manages to dig out a cross in the corner but keeper Daphne van Domselaar gathers.

She does that goalie move of catching it, dropping it, and gathering again on purpose but her initial drop is judged to have gone over the line.

So, corner Scotland...

It is criminal defending. They should never be beaten by that one long pass right through the heart of the defence.

it is never easy to come off the bench and get to grips with the game, Fiona Brown and Lisa Evans will be looking to do that as soon as possible.

Renate Jansen zips down the wing and fires a cross into the area but it's met by Sophie Howard who hooks it away without skipping a beat.

Both teams are starting this half on the cagier side, a tad off when contrasted with the frenetic opening to the first period.

I'm aware I keep harking on about it, but the Goffertstadion really is a doozy.

It's home to Eredivisie side, NEC Nijmegen. Want a bit of a Scottish link there? Course you do.

Motherwell legend Michael Higdon is a bit of a hero around these parts, too. He switched Fir Park for these parts, and I can't blame him.

But anyway, aye. I wanted to share my pointless research with someone.

A scoreline of 2-0 feels awfully harsh... but at the top level, there's no time to be sorry for yourself.

The Dutch were clinical when Scotland were not.

There were some really nice passages of play from the Scots between the two goals... that was when they had to capitalise. Just not quite cutting it tonight, yet.

When you're up against a top side they will punish you, they're ruthless in the box.

It comes from certain moments, being a bit lackadaisical, and switching off.

A strong start from the hosts was rewarded with Danielle van de Donk's opening strike as she ghosted in at the front post to turn it home.

Scotland responded well but failed to take their chances, the pick of the bunch rather fortuitously falling to Claire Emslie in the box after a goalkeeping error.

Despite their strong showing, they fell to another goal as Esmee Brugts, who has impressed so far this evening, converted with a first-time finish in the area following an ineffective Sophie Howard clearance.

Plenty of positives for Pedro Martinez Losa to highlight at the interval though. Plenty of time left.

Lineth Beerensteyn is allowed to venture into the box from wide right but her left-footed shot spins away from goal, much to Scotland's relief.

The hosts are dominating the ball in the middle of the park once again as Esmee Brugts rampages down the left-hand side and cuts in towards goal but her shot similarly drifts away from the target.

Sherida Spitse unleashes a venomous strike from 25 yards out that is rising perfectly into the top bin but Lee Gibson leaps to her side's rescue to palm it away.

Some stop.

A classic case of the curse of the live texter I'm afraid...

Now that's a sucker punch, because Scotland were really finding their feet in the game.

What were you just saying, Jack?...
