The Manchester United defender looks at how Wales are looking to redeem themselves after a disappointing start to their Nations League campaign, which saw them lose 1-0 in Iceland before being beaten 5-1 at home by Denmark.

Defender Lily Woodham tells Match of the Day Wales how her "nan stole the show" after visiting the Wales squad as they prepared for today's Nations League game in Germany.

Away from today's games, Wales boss Gemma Grainger has been talking about a few different topics.

Among them is her view that there is no reason why a female coach should not manage a leading men's team.

Hannah Dingley became the first woman to manage a professional men's side in English football when she was made caretaker boss at Forest Green Rovers in July.

Grainger believes the first permanent appointment of a female manager in the men's elite game may not be far away.

"It comes down to skillset," said the 41-year-old.

"If I go into a team and am asked to deliver a role as a coach, if I am the best at delivering that, you can trust a male or female to deliver.

"But it's a taboo isn't it. Women in society are still a taboo in many different roles.

"I have worked with boys in youth academies and because of the pressures at the highest level, there are some real soft skills that women can have. It's not that men don't have them - I am trying not to be too general, because that's not the case.

"But you can really get the best out of people in different ways."

Germany are one of the top women's teams on the planet.

Performance is the main factor [for Wales]. Gemma Grainger and the team have a few more games to get things right for the next qualifying tournament.

That's the priority and rightly so.

There will be certain things Gemma wants to nail tonight. She won't be happy with the defensive organisation in some of the previous games, but there were also good things as well.

Wales are missing one of their senior players as well, as injury means Rachel Rowe has not travelled to Germany.

The 31-year-old midfielder missed her club side Rangers' victory over Celtic on Sunday.

Rowe's injury will also keep her out of Tuesday's trip to Denmark, though Wales boss Gemma Grainger does not expect her absence to be long term.

"We are obviously disappointed that Rachel has had to stay at home," Grainger said.

"But one of the things I have focused on is depth in the squad and now we have that, which maybe we didn't when I first took the job.

"We have two, three or four players who can step into the position, so we want Rachel to recover as quickly as possible, but I am really excited for the opportunity it gives other players."

As we mentioned, Germany are without one of their most influential players today, as captain Alexandra Popp is out injured.

The Wolfsburg striker is one of the world's most lethal finishers, and she's among the nominees for this year's BBC Women's Footballer of the Year award.

Popp, 32, took part in her third World Cup in the summer and while Germany - one of the initial favourites - were knocked out in the group stages, that didn't prevent her being able to display her trademark abilities in the box.

Her tally of four goals - just one fewer than Golden Boot winner Hinata Miyazawa - was particularly impressive given she only played three matches.

She is named on the bench but is not expected to play any part.

Wales captain Sophie Ingle shares Gemma Grainger's excitement about these two games.

Wales began their Nations League campaign with a 1-0 loss in Iceland before losing 5-1 against Denmark in Cardiff.

But Ingle believes her side learned from those games and will benefit from back-to-back away matches against Germany and then Denmark.

I was surprised to see the Welsh performance against Denmark.

I think Wales will be a lot tighter, a lot narrower.

They will have to be a lot more organised and disciplined defensively. And when we do get one or two chances, we have to take them.

It doesn't get much easier for Wales after today's game.

After taking on two-time World Cup winners Germany, they travel to Denmark, who beat Wales 5-1 in Cardiff in September, for another Nations League encounter next Tuesday.

Wales must avoid finishing bottom of Group A3, which also features Iceland, in order to avoid relegation to the second tier of the Nations League.

"We are really excited, we know the challenge," Wales boss Gemma Grainger said.

"It's a tough test for us... we know the magnitude of the challenge, but it is exactly what we want to do."

Germany make five changes from the side that comfortably beat Iceland 4-0 last time out.

Influential striker Alexandra Popp misses out through injury, with Lea Schuller taking her place.

There is also a change in goal with Ann-Katrin Berger replacing the absent Merle Frohms.

Sara Dabritz and Laura Freigang come into the midfield and the returning Svenja Huth captains the side in Popp's absence.

Popp is named on the bench for Germany, but is apparently not fit to play.
