I quite literally am watching paint dry during this match, occasionally checking the eggshell finish in the hallway. And it really is more interesting.

Imagine VAR in Subbuteo! Now there's a thought. Would stop all those needless arguments, and everyone would love it. Just like real life!

    So nearly!

The cross comes in and Ryan Yates hits the deck. Play goes on and it falls to Forest sub Felipe who smashes the ball against the outside of the post. Forest's best chance.

  9. 'Brentford deserved it'published at 18:43 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

    FT: Brentford 3-1 Luton

    Luton Town

Luton manager Rob Edwards, speaking to Sky Sports: "We were unlucky to lose a few key players to injury and we had a fair bit of adjustment, especially with one of those players being Tom Lockyer.

"That being said, the goals we conceded were poor and that's so frustrating. Credit the lads, they kept going and we almost found a way to get back into it. It was a difficult day.

"We got a good goal through Jacob Brown and we wanted to stay in it but we didn't manage to hold on. Brentford deserved it today, it's difficult to say, but it's true.

"We couldn't find rhythm with the ball, from a defensive point of view we did well in the first half and defended well. We've been finding a way to get out recently but the goals happened so quickly in the second half and they got belief and confidence."

How is Tom Lockyer?: "He hurt his back early in the game and did well to get through to half time. Hopefully, he won't be out for too long. We've lost a few centre backs to injury this season and hopefully they'll be back soon.

"We have got people coming back. Some big games coming up in the next week but they are all big for us. We want a competitive group for those matches."

Love it Fownsey! There was a talent gap between me and my brother at Fifa so we often had Real Madrid (him) losing to Accrington Stanley (me). Not sure I can remember any wild kit clashes though.

Replying to Jono, blue v red reminds me more of foosball than Subbuteo. If memory serves, I had to make do with Romania when I started playing flick-to-kick c.1978. My mate challenged me to a game and they only had one team left in the shop. Needless to say, they lost to Man Utd that day.

  17. 'We've been let down today'published at 18:35 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

    FT: Burnley 5-0 Sheff Utd

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom to BBC Sport: "The game plan wasn't to dangle two legs in two tackles and then allow a delivery into the box.

"We picked a team we thought was experienced, aggressive and could manage these situations. To start the game like that put us on the back foot. The second goal was poor too.

"We've given Burnley the advantage they need. A huge lack of discipline and we've gone down to 10 men."

On Oli McBurnie's red for two bookings: "I've not seen the first, I've seen the second. If they're two yellows there's nothing we can do about it anyway.

"It's a bit different when you're already on a yellow. You have to be careful. We all know that. The game has changed. We can't appeal or look at it. You can't afford to do that."

On the triple change at the break: "Some things weren't good enough. It was more about which shape would keep us in the game. We did what we wanted and then were were sloppy. One or two didn't manage the situation, the occasion and it became really difficult.

"The first 30 seconds contributed hugely to that.

"Sometimes players can play their way out of the team. Too many today, the players know what I think, one or two know we've been let down today."

Dwight McNeil did everything right for his chance. Went for the low finish, put it past the keeper so well, but was denied by excellent defending.

Murillo made up so much ground to get back round on the cover, and to then get his feet sorted out so quickly and divert the ball away from goal... it is such an intelligent block.

  20. 'Celebrate wins'published at 18:30 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

    FT: Brentford 3-1 Luton

    Brentford

Brentford manager Thomas Frank, speaking to Sky Sports: "I'm really satisfied with the team today, we played one game against Arsenal where we couldn't dominate like we want and the ability to change the gameplan today and execute was great."

On whether he changed approach for second half: "Until their first goal they did not have a shot on target and they are difficult to play so it was very impressive.

"We were getting closer in the last 15 minutes of the first half, having half chances, so we spoke about that at half time. It was important to keep the tempo and we tried to use Yoane Wissa more.

On the feeling after conceding: "It's crazy how dynamics change in football, at 2-1 it was a little nervy, but we came back and got the third.

"Very pleased for Keane [Lewis-Potter], we needed him to come on and make a difference and he did.

"In this league, you need to celebrate your wins. It was a very good win and every expects us to win against Luton."
