It is a really interesting debate around Trent Alexander-Arnold.

When we talk about him playing in the hybrid full-back/midfield role it is always with the lens of discussing what he does in an attacking sense, but does he have the defensive understanding to do the defensive side of that midfield role?

For Liverpool he is great playing behind the ball, coming onto it from the wide area into the middle, but I don't think he would be so good if he played ahead of the ball.

His passing range is excellent, but I'm not sure he could player further up the pitch.

Are the weaknesses causing a net loss for the team or are the strengths causing a net gain?

After going 63 Premier League games in a row without a red card between February 2022 and the start of November, Brighton have received a red card in each of their last two games. Lewis Dunk’s red against Nottingham Forest was his fifth in the Premier League, the most of any player since Brighton joined the division in 2017-18.

The pair were locked in conversation in the tunnel around an hour ago and perhaps Aston Villa boss Unai Emery was reminding Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola that he has won both of their previous meetings.

Emery's Villarreal side won home (2-0) and away (5-1) against Rayo Vallecano in the 2021-22 LaLiga campaign.

Fulham have won none of their last six away Premier League games (D3 L3) - although their last win was on Merseyside in August, a 1-0 win at Everton.

The visitors have won four of their last five away league games against Everton and Liverpool (L1), having previously only won one of their first 55 such visits in league football.

What is interesting is that our English audiences always look to find flaws in players' games, so for Trent Alexander-Arnold they always point at his defensive issues.

In America he would be lauded as a king of the game. They would embrace everything that he does well, his unbelievable talent, and there would not be any negativity around him.

What are we looking for here? There is no such thing as a perfect player, but such is the bar he has set with his talent, we all want him to be perfect. I think the criticism and negativity are getting a little bit harsh.

The FA Cup third-round draw was made earlier, with the pick of the ties seeing Premier League leaders Arsenal hosting eight-time winners Liverpool.

Elsewhere, Sunderland will face Newcastle in a Tyne-Wear derby at the Stadium of Light and holders Manchester City will entertain Huddersfield Town.

Manchester United will visit 2013 winners Wigan Athletic, Tottenham will host Burnley, and Everton will travel to Crystal Palace.

The third round will be played between 5 and 8 January.

Isthmian League South East Division side Ramsgate, the lowest-ranked team left in the competition, will host Championship high-flyers Ipswich if they can beat AFC Wimbledon on Monday.

Maidstone, of the National League South, can look forward to a home tie against either Stevenage or Port Vale.

Kelleher will have been preparing for this moment for some time.

It is not like he is pushing and pushing Alisson for this starting spot, but he has performed well in the cups, has performed in finals and helped them to achieve what they have in recent years, win trophies. He now has the opportunity to start today in the league.

Jurgen Klopp knows that he has a reliable number two ready and waiting to step in when he needs him.

It is tough to be a back up goalkeeper, very tough, but Jurgen Klopp has full faith in his deputy Caoimhin Kelleher.

He was described by his manager as the best number two in world football this week, I think Arsenal and a few other clubs may have something to say about that, but he has the trust of his manager and rightly so.
