    HT: Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal

This was a pretty breathless first half with action at both ends of the pitch.

It was pretty even all told though.

Liverpool edged possession, but they've only had one shot on target. Arsenal have had two.

    HT: Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal

    Stephen Warnock
Former England and Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

    That's not a yellow card. It's barely a foul.

It's shoulder-to-shoulder between Havertz and Endo and both players are trying to win the ball. Come on, that's not a yellow card.

  3. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:20 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

    Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal

    We're level at the break.

Gabriel's header put Arsenal ahead in the fourth, but it was cancelled out by Mohamed Salah's 29th-minute strike.

As things stand Arsenal would top the Premier League at Christmas.

  4. YELLOW CARDpublished at 18:19 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

    Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal

Kai Havertz is in the book now.

Endo turns on a throw from Trent Alexander-Arnold and looks to break free. He and Havertz are jostling and referee Chris Kavanagh decides it is a foul and booking.

Havertz will miss Arsenal's game against West Ham on 28 December now.

  5. YELLOW CARDpublished at 18:18 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

    Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal

    Endo is in the book.

Trent Alexander-Arnold gives the ball away as he looks to thread into midfield and Arsenal, through Gabriel Martinelli, look to break.

He's pulled back by Endo though and he can't have any complaints about the caution.

David Raya comes out and collects though. Good keeping.

We're into four minutes of added time.

  7. Postpublished at 18:16 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

    Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal

    Danger for Arsenal.

Curtis Jones goes down over the outstretched leg of Gunners captain Martin Odegaard and Liverpool have a dangerous free-kick from about 24 yards out on the left of the area.

    Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal

    Stephen Warnock

Wasted opportunity from Arsenal. They should be putting it in the back of the net and then asking the questions.

Alisson does really well and pushes him into the path of Martinelli. Martinelli can't take the chance.

    Very good from Ibrahima Konate.

He gets over to assist Trent Alexander-Arnold with Gabriel Martinelli before muscling the winger off the ball and gaining possession for Liverpool.

From one end to the other.

Bukayo Saka is through, one-on-one with Alisson, after Gabriel Jesus threads a ball inside the right-footed Joe Gomez at left-back.

Saka is unable to get a shot away, but it falls for Gabriel Martinelli, who should at least hit the target, but drags wide.

    Ah! Mohamed Salah.

He's one-on-one with Oleksandr Zinchenko but he opts to try and thread Cody Gakpo in rather than taking on the full-back.

    Perhaps the wrong option.

Liverpool's knack of conceding ridiculously early goals is breath-taking, but to concede within 4 minutes at Anfield is nothing short of a disgrace. It's all very well Klopp calling out the fans to create atmosphere, but the team have to uphold their end of the bargain on the pitch!

  13. YELLOW CARDpublished at 18:08 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

Alex: Such a lazy attempt at defending from Zinchenko there.

G: Poor defensively again from Zinchenko. We look vulnerable every time that left side is attacked. Arteta needs to buy a left back and put Zinchenko into midfield.

Nick: Zinchenko in this Arsenal back 4 is such a glaring weak link defending. Tomiyasu would have started this game vs Salah if he was fit. I’m surprised Kiwior didn’t get the nod. Heck, Mo Elneny would do a better job at left back when it comes to defending vs Salah. Zinchenko offers more in attack but defensively he may as well not be there at all.

    Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal

Martin Odegaard wins a free-kick for Arsenal, much to the annoyance of the vast majority inside Anfield.

Liverpool block the runs of Gabriel and William Saliba this time.

It ends up going out for a corner but Liverpool deal with that too.

Dave: Mo Salah! Liverpool the best side here today. Watch Arsenal defend like schoolboys, all clustered around the ball. Come on you Reds.

Jeremy: The greatest of the art of goal scoring seem to wear down slowly as they get older, but they never seem to lose their shot.

    Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Anfield

Mohamed Salah doing what he does best. He has provided the moment of magic just when Liverpool needed it most.

Arsenal had been comforable and compose - apart from looked like a blatant handball by Martin Odegaard in the area - but a combination of Trent Alexander-Arnold's brilliant pass and Salah's thunderous finish has changed the mood inside Anfield.
