    Liverpool 0-1 Arsenal

There's a little bit of argy bargy now between Trent Alexander-Arnold and Gabriel after the Gunners defender does well to see the ball out for a goal-kick.

Liverpool have settled a bit. A raking ball finds Luis Diaz and he forces Liverpool's first corner.

Goals at this level come from multiple mistakes. Gakpo gives the ball away and a cheap foul follows, then the defensive line is disorganised and leave Gabriel unmarked, and Allison is in no man’s land.

Liverpool's marking had been poor at a corner just before Gabriel's goal. They got away with it then but not a second time.

    Just the start Arsenal wanted.

    Liverpool 0-1 Arsenal

This has been a very ropey start from Liverpool.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has started to drift into midfield but it leaves Liverpool three-on-three at the back.

Kai Havertz intercepts a pass but can't bring it under control properly and Alisson is able to collect.

The ball from Odegaard is brilliant and goes into a position to tell Gabriel, 'Go and attack it', and he does.

A great start from Arsenal. Totally deserved.

Liverpool haven't started well and not been able to get out of their half. Arsenal have hurried and chased them and made their dominance count early.

Liverpool have been behind in eight other Premier League games this season.

They've only lost one of those, drawing three and winning four.

There's plenty more twists and turns yet.

    Wow!

It is a lovely floated delivery from Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard and Gabriel gets in front of Cody Gakpo to head in at the Kop end.

    Great start to the game.

How often have we seen Bukayo Saka run at a defence and cut inside and find someone in the box? This time it was Jesus but his effort was denied by a block.

This has been a really positive start from Arsenal.

    Brilliant start for Arsenal.

Bukayo Saka drops a shoulder on Virgil van Dijk and fires a low cross into the area. Alisson is out but parries it to Brazil team-mate Gabriel Jesus on the edge of the area.

This effort is blocked behind for a corner, which is headed straight into the hands of Alisson.

The majority of commentators seem to be wanting a Liverpool win. ‘It’s all on Arsenal’, being thrown around. Or ‘this will define the season’. Didn’t realise the season was decided at Christmas?

Klopp is talking a lot of sense. I’ve seen people writing off Liverpool or Arsenal as challengers if they lose this game which is a joke. Both could win league regardless of result here just as both could still end up finishing well behind City. It’s too early for such stupid statements of writing these teams out of a title race based on this game.

    Liverpool v Arsenal (17:30 GMT)

Arsenal will be bolder than Manchester United were at Anfield last week, but then Sheffield United would probably show more attacking intent than Erik ten Hag's side did.

I still think it will be pretty cagey because the Gunners are not as expansive as they were last season, but they still carry a threat.

There is this argument that they are lacking a centre-forward, which I get, but they have shown they can get goals from all areas of their team.

So, I think this will be tight, but Liverpool are at home and I just don't see them drawing another blank. They only know one way to play, they will take the game to Arsenal - and I think they will edge it.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

  20. 'We deserved three points'published at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

    FT: Tottenham 2-1 Everton

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham striker Son Heung-min speaking to PLP: "The second half you can see that 2-0 is never enough in the Premier League. Everton was pushing and we did well. The lads did a fantastic job and I'm happy to get three points. I think we deserved three points.

"Football is sometimes going up but sometimes going down. You have to stick together. The previous week we learned a lot from our mistakes. This time we learned and showed good experience. I'm very pleased with every single player because they worked hard and deserved their spot.

"I always work for [goals] in my career. It doesn't matter where the gaffer puts me I'm ready for it. I know what I have to do. I try to help the team as possible even when I play on the left. I love to work for the team.

"Richarlison went through similar to what I had last season. He is always hungry for goals and for work. He is playing pain-free and looks totally different as a player so I'm very happy for him. If he carries on like this he can be one of the greatest strikers in the Premier League.

"Being in the top four is good but this is not our aim so we want to keep improving."
