It's a massive game for Arsenal. They need to win here this afternoon and get momentum back on their side. It's a great opportunity for Arsenal today in a stadium that isn't notorious for being difficult to play in.

  3. Sutton's predictionpublished at 13:57 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2023

    Tottenham v Bournemouth (14:00 GMT)

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker for BBC Sport

What Arsenal do in January is going to be vitally important in deciding how they finish their season, but the same applies to Tottenham as well.

Spurs' defeat by Brighton was a sore one for Ange Postecoglou, who is without injured defender Cristian Romero for up to five weeks now too. He is such a key player, so that is a real stinker for them.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, are on a roll and cannot stop winning. The Cherries are on fire - and so is Dominic Solanke, with eight goals in his past seven games.

I can't see Spurs' makeshift defence keeping him out, but I do think they will come out on top. It might take a Postecoglou rocket to get them back on track, but they do have plenty of creative players and they can cut Bournemouth open.

    Sutton's prediction: 3-1

My football moment of the year was Jacob Murphy's broad smile as the Champions League anthem was played at the San Siro. We can all take football far too seriously at times, and seeing Murphy's sheer joy at that moment was rather wonderful.

  6. Sutton's predictionpublished at 13:53 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2023

    Fulham v Arsenal (14:00 GMT)

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker for BBC Sport

This is a huge game for Arsenal after their surprise defeat by West Ham.

The Gunners are widely considered to be a bit more streetwise than last season, but they have 10 fewer points after 19 games than they did in the the 2022-23 campaign, when they were out in front for so long.

This time they are playing catch-up to Liverpool, with City hot on their heels - Pep Guardiola's side would go above them if they win their game in hand.

Fulham have hit a bit of a bump in the road, with three straight defeats, but it is not long since they were flying and scoring loads of goals.

Fulham will make it hard, but Arsenal will find a way of winning this one - they really have to.

There's been plenty of talk already about how manager Mikel Arteta needs to sign another striker in January. Brentford's Ivan Toney has been linked for a while, but he has not played for months because of his suspension. He will have been training, but how much match sharpness does he have?

Arsenal are trying to win the title, so they haven't got time to wait for anyone to get up to speed. If we are looking at the names that are supposedly within their grasp, Bournemouth's Dominic Solanke stands out as the best candidate.

    Sutton's prediction: 0-1

Manager Marco Silva, speaking to Sky Sports about the return of Raul Jimenez and Willian to the starting XI today: "They are both key players for us. Of course we believe in all our players, we have a very good group, but it is difficult when you have three or four key players out our team."

The Bournemouth owners deserve a lot of credit for sticking with Iraola. With no wins in nine games, it could have been easy for them to say that they got this one wrong.

He needed time to implement his ideas. It took the whole squad quite a long time to understand everything he wants.

    Tottenham v Bournemouth (14:00 GMT)

This match sees two of the Premier League's in-form strikers in Richarlison and Dominic Solanke go head to head.

Richarlison has been involved in seven goals in his last six Premier League home games for Spurs, scoring four and assisting three. He was a bit wasteful in their defeat by Brighton on Thursday though, twice seeing goals disallowed for offside.

Solanke has scored eight goals in his last seven Premier League games, and has netted in three in a row for the first time in the competition.

Only Joshua King (16 in 2016-17) and Callum Wilson (14 in 2018-19) have scored more for Bournemouth in a single Premier League campaign than Solanke this term (12).

Luton captain Tom Lockyer has posted for the first time on social media since suffering a cardiac arrest in a game at Bournemouth on 16 December. He's posted the following on his personal Instagram:

I would just like to say that I am doing very well and feeling very much myself after the cardiac arrest I suffered in Bournemouth. The reason I'm doing so well is all down to the heroic actions of the players, staff, doctors and paramedics. I feel thankful that this happened to me surrounded by these heroes. They saved my life. I will never forget what you did for me.

While I'm sad not to be involved, I feel full of pride watching the boys carry on the battle without me. The fighting spirit I've seen in the last three games has given me a much needed lift. I will be doing whatever I can whichever ways are possible to help the gaffer and the club. In what capacity that is remains to be decided as I'm due to meet with specialists in the new year.
