Very little if anything to report here so far. Ilias Chair is looking lively, popping up on the left flank for QPR.

Callum Paterson has had a header from a free-kick go over for Wednesday, although they are starting to stir and have put Asmir Begovic under a bit of pressure from a corner.

The atmosphere so far has been a bit more like Test match - when you’ve got Usman Khawaja batting away for hours on end. Everyone in the stands has been having a bit of a catch-up in the meantime.

Little less conversation, a little more action please.

Wesley Hoedt so nearly gives Watford the lead at Preston.

Hoedt is only a a yard or two out when he meets a corner at the far post, but he sends his finish off target.

Watford goalkeeper Ben Hamer has been worked hard by hosts Preston early on.

Brad Potts slams an effort straight at the keeper, and Hamer goes on to deal with the follow up shot as Potts tried to pounce on the rebound.

Bristol City's Taylor Gardner-Hickman is brought down in the area by Sunderland keeper Anthony Patterson after Jason Knight pinched the ball and fed in the 21-year-old.

Swansea are knocking on the door.

Liam Walsh whipped in a delightful free-kick which is met by Bashir Humphreys, but the Swansea centre-half can't divert his header on target.

Coventry have grown into this in the past few minutes.

Illan Meslier in the Whites goal is forced into a smart save by Sky Blues midfielder Ben Sheaf.

Alex Pritchard has nearly scored directly from a corner for Sunderland.

That would have been an extraordinary way to open the scoring.

Ben Hamer has come up with a huge save to deny Preston an early opener.

He denies Jordan Storey, whose header after meeting a cross from Alan Browne looked destined for the back of the net.

It's been a fast-paced start by the hosts, and it took some brilliant defending from Dimitrios Goutas to stop Aaron Connolly opening the scoring.

Connolly managed to round Cardiff keeper Jak Alnwick, but Goutas was there to hook the ball away.

Stuart Armstrong bends a lovely early chance just wide for Southampton.

That would have been some way to get this one started!

First meeting between these two teams since back in 2012.

The home side will close the gap on the top two to eight points with a win today.

They're on top in the opening exchanges, Jake Bidwell makes an important block on a long-ranger from Georginio Rutter.

Rotherham get themselves an early sight of goal at Plymouth.

Sam Nombe manages to get on the end of a deflected cross from Cohen Bramall, and then sends his half volley across the face of goal.

This might be 23rd v 22nd in the Championship but both of these teams are in very good form right now.

Sinclair Armstrong goes on an enterprising run down the left for the away side but Cameron Dawson in the Owls goal cuts it out.

Bright start from the away side, who threaten a couple of times in the opening minute or so.

Danny Ward sees a shot blocked and then Sorba Thomas belts an effort wide.

Damp and drizzly at Swansea. Similar to recent moods in both camps maybe.

A win today for the Swans would boost any hopes that caretaker boss Alan Sheehan has of making the job a permanent one. It would be a first home win since they beat Norwich on 4 October.

For Boro, three defeats on the bounce have seen them drop away from the play-off race and put some pressure on the shoulders of Michael Carrick.

Top scorer Jerry Yates has dropped to the bench for Swansea, who may be starting with a different formation this afternoon.

Bottom side Rotherham visit Plymouth in search of a first away win since November 2022. The Pilgrims are only three points above the relegation zone but are in great nick at Home Park, with three wins and a draw in their past four.

Preston have fallen off badly since their excellent start to the season but a 3-1 win at Huddersfield on Tuesday moved them back into top-six contention. Today's visitors Watford are enjoying a perfectly mid-table season so far with seven wins, seven draws and seven defeats.

Managerless Swansea are one of a number of teams who will feel they're too close for comfort to the bottom three. Visitors Middlesbrough are in a sticky patch of their own, with three successive defeats really taking the wind out of their sails. A win for the home side would move them above Boro in the table.
