  1. Can Corberan take the Baggies up?published at 14:38 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

Carlos Corberan got as close as you can get, losing in the play-off final with Huddersfield Town in 2022, can he get the Baggies into the promised land next year? They currently sit fifth.

The Midlands side boast the league's most clean sheets with 10, only Leicester have conceded fewer goals than their 22 so far this campaign.

Albion are unbeaten in the past three meetings between the two sides and have won the most recent two. The Baggies and Boro played out a six-goal thriller in August, with Corbean’s men coming out 4-2 winners thanks to efforts from Cedric Kipre, John Swift, Brandon Thomas-Asante and Jeremy Sarmiento.

Middlesbrough's 2-1 victory at Swansea last Saturday ended their run of three straight losses.

This is very much a game between the haves and have nots in the Championship this season.

League leaders Leicester could go six points clear the top of the table with a win over bottom-of-the-table Rotherham.

Enzo Maresca's men are in daunting form with four successive wins and it has felt for some time like their spell in the Championship will just be a season-long loan.

In contrast, the Millers have won just two of their 22 games so far this season and are without an away win in the league this YEAR.

  3. Will Watford have happy return to Lancashire?published at 14:34 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

    Blackburn v Watford (15:00 GMT)

Blackburn take on Watford having been boosted by the signing of Iceland forward Arnor Sigurdsson on a permanent deal until the end of 2025.

The 24-year-old had joined on an initial 12-month deal from Russian side CSKA Moscow in June and has scored five goals in 16 appearances for the club this term.

Rovers come into the game off the back of losing to Southampton - their third defeat in four games.

They welcome a Watford side who demolished Preston 5-1 last week. Do the Hornets have a sting in the tail on their return to Lancashire today?

    WOOF.

Righteo, just before I hand you over to Jay Freeman and Harry Everett for all the build up to the 15:00 GMT games let's see where that result leaves us.

Leeds have closed the gap on second-placed Ipswich to seven points.

The Blues host league leaders Leicester on Boxing Day.

A win for the Foxes over bottom-of-the-table Rotherham today will see them top the tree by six points on Christmas Day.

Stavros Makro: Ι bet Rotherham will make more of a fight in their game against Leicester today than Ipswich here, that's how bad they were today.

Mark, Leeds: "Thrilled to beat" a promotion rival, @ Anon 14.11. It's a statement hammering that damages Ipswich players' confidence and boosts our own. That's the perspective.

  7. 'Leeds players stepped up'published at 14:28 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

    FT: Leeds 4-0 Ipswich

    Aidy White
Former Leeds United full-back on BBC Radio Leeds

Ipswich were outperformed on every part of the pitch today.

Leeds players really stepped up today, especially in the first 45 minutes. I don't think there is a player out on that pitch where you can't say 'that is a solid nine out of 10 performance'.

    DOMINANT.

Third-placed Leeds have DISMANTLED second-placed Ipswich here.

The Whites raced into an early lead through Pascal Struijk's header before former Leeds man Leif Davis scored in his own goal.

Cyrsencio Summerville made it 3-0 before the break with a penalty in front of a bouncing Elland Road.

Joel Piroe made it 4-0 in the second half and it maybe could have been more if Leeds had kept pushing.

The gap between the two is now down to seven points after this statement win for Leeds in a game where the away side, the league's leading scorers, did not have a shot on target.

  9. YELLOW CARDpublished at 90+2 mins

They want the clean sheet to go with their win.

No shots on target all day for Ipswich today.

  12. Postpublished at 86 mins

    Leeds 4-0 Ipswich

This has made a real difference to the goal difference between these two teams.

Second-placed Ipswich were on plus 19 and Leeds on plus 15 before today.

It's now the other way around.

(I got an A in GCSE Maths if you were interested...)

  13. 'Everything' has gone wrong for Ipswichpublished at 14:16 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

    Leeds 4-0 Ipswich

    Alex Mathie
Ex-Ipswich Town striker on BBC Radio Suffolk

They have been outstanding today, Leeds, ever since the first goal.

Ipswich have just got to get their heads up. Nothing has gone right for them today, everything that could have gone wrong has gone wrong.

That is because it is a very good Leeds team.

Brandon Williams comes on for former Leeds man Leif Davis.

It's been a rum old day for the full-back.

He's scored an own goal and given away a penalty on his first return to Elland Road.

Anon: Let's keep some perspective despite an excellent Leeds performance - it says something that a team with a huge wage bill, parachute payments etc are so thrilled to beat newly promoted, hugely financially inferior Ipswich to cut the gap to *seven* points.

Anon: As a neutral it is a pleasure watching Leeds under Farke. Given his spell at Norwich during which they never lost to Ipswich it I wonder what the aggregate Farke v Ipswich score is?

Well, Farke won two and drew two of his four games against Ipswich while at Carrow Road, with an aggregate score of 6-2. So, it's currently now 14-5 with the two meetings of Leeds and Ipswich this season.

You'd imagine there's a few Preston fans and players watching this right now and sitting pretty uncomfortably.

The Lancashire side, who are not in form, welcome Leeds to Deepdale on Boxing Day.

The oles are out for every pass from the home side.

You could never have seen this coming before the game today.

How big an impact could this ultimately have on the promotion race?

  19. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 73 mins

    Leeds 4-0 Ipswich

Couple more changes for the home side.

Glen Kamara and Djed Spence are off and Ilia Gruev and Junior Firpo are on.

Pretty good circumstances to be coming on into for the two subs.
