    Rotherham 1-0 Middlesbrough

The bottom side have, against the odds, toppled Boro, who could have moved within a point of the play-offs.

Michael Carrick's men missed so many chances and were thwarted by Millers keeper Viktor Johnasson and the woodwork twice and it was Cohen Bramall's incredible left-wing blast into the roof of the net, either a sliced cross or the reincarnation of Roberto Carlos, which settled the points and gave Leam Richardson his first win in charge.

Jack Clarke's late cracker gives Sunderland all three points and moves them up to sixth at the expense of Hull City, who drop to seventh.

A first win for Michael Beale as Black Cats boss.

  3. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:55 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Southampton 5-0 Swansea

Saints go third in the table and are 16 unbeaten after another comprehensive win.

A seventh win in eight home games, a fourth straight clean sheet and Russell Martin heaps more woe on his old side.

Joe Aribo and Sam Edozie put them two-up before Ryan Fraser came off the bench to net a sublime double then set up a fifth for Che Adams.

Festive cracker after festive cracker involving Plymouth Argyle of late.

The Bluebirds flew out of the traps after the interval, taking the lead thanks to a Karlan Grant screamer - some contrast between that and their first-half goal (one to watch back on your footy bloopers source...)

But Argyle bounced back through Morgan Whittaker's 12th of the season, the former Swansea man earning a key brace at the other south Wales Championship ground.

Maybe Argyle don't need a new manager...Neil Dewsnip and Kevin Nancekivell have provided two thrilling draws against bigger clubs in the past few days.

  5. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:54 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Watford 1-4 Bristol City

A manic minute between 49-50 saw Watford get back in it, then get plunged further behind as Mark Sykes restored City's two-goal half-time lead.

Substitute Andreas Weimann then wrapped up the three points against his former club.

Bristol City had lost their past five away Boxing Day league games – their last away win on Boxing Day was at Vicarage Road against Watford back in 2008 under now-Torquay boss Gary Johnson....

I do love a quirky Boxing Day stat...

    Cardiff 2-2 Plymouth

It is still giving the BBC commentators heart palpitations in south Wales.

Chances for both sides, but Argyle more in the ascendancy, their substitutes have been terrific, can they steal a bonus two points late on?

  7. goal

GOAL: Coventry 2-0 Sheffield Wednesdaypublished at 16:52 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Tatsuhiro Sakamoto (88 mins)

    Games, set and match.

Three goals in two games for Japanese schemer Tatsuhiro Sakamoto.

    Lovely one this.

Comes in off the inside right and just curls a measured shot into the far corner.

    Ryan Fraser (87 mins)

Two for Ryan Fraser, four for Saints, 16 unbeaten for Russell Martin and third in the Championship tonight.

An afternoon to forget for Swansea but what a goal this is, Joe Aribo threads Sekou Mara into the area and his pull-back is smashed home by Fraser with another first time shot.

  10. goal

GOAL: Hull City 0-1 Sunderlandpublished at 16:46 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Jack Clarke (82 mins)

Jack Clarke celebrates scoring for Sunderland at HullImage source, PA Media

The deadlock is broken late on!

Jack Clarke with the kind of finish that the watching Jude Bellingham would be proud of.

The former Leeds man cuts inside from the left and curls a fierce shot into the bottom corner.

Is Michael Beale going to claim a win in his second game in charge.

  11. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 16:43 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Rotherham 1-0 Middlesbrough

Boro are clearly desperate to avoid a fourth defeat in Yorkshire in five games, and two this month, but Riley McGree has seen an effort deflected onto the upright by Millers keeper Viktor Johansson.

  12. GREAT SAVE!published at 16:42 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    West Brom 1-0 Norwich

Nope. The other end. Ui-jo Hwang swivels to meet a low cross from close range after a Norwich corner was only half-cleared but Alex Palmer produces an instinctive fingertip save to his left to deny his angled header and the 10-man visitors an unlikely leveller.

  13. goal

GOAL: Watford 1-4 Bristol Citypublished at 16:42 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Andreas Weimann (83 mins)

Joe Williams assists substitute Andreas Weimann, against his former club, who places it across goal into the top corner, cue a mass exodus from the home areas of Vicarage Road.

City had not won in six on the road before today.

  14. A bonkers five minutespublished at 16:40 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Peterborough 2-1 Reading

    Adam Whitty
    Final Score

Order has been restored by Peterborough, but for a moment there this game had turned on its head.

Reading scored from nowhere through Sam Smith, then hit the bar through Femi Azeez - having done absolutely nothing in the game before that.

But Ephron Mason-Clark's 11th of the season has brought the festive joy back to London Road. The Posh are keeping up the heat on Portsmouth.

  15. Postpublished at 16:39 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Coventry 1-0 Sheff Wed

Teenage striker Bailey Cadamarteri is in great form for Sheffield Wednesday.

Brad Collins in the Coventry goal stops him from adding to his growing goals tally and reputation though this time.

  16. Postpublished at 16:37 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Cardiff 2-2 Plymouth

Could have been a hat-trick for Morgan Whittaker, he wins a corner with his weak shot.

All out attack from Argyle, Finn Azaz has been a very positive substitution for the visitors.

Hull keeper Matt Ingram makes a saveImage source, Getty Images

Both teams looking for what you'd have to imaging would be the winner.

Matt Ingram makes a great save from Sunderland forward Jack Clarke and moments later opposite number Anthony Patterson keeps out a Liam Delap effort.

  18. goal

GOAL: Rotherham 1-0 Middlesbroughpublished at 16:35 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Cohen Bramall (72 min)

    Well, well, well.

Rotherham have barely had a sniff in this match, let alone the second half, and yet they lead.

The ball is worked wide to Cohen Bramall deep on the left and his first-time... strike, shall I call it, into the middle flies past the despairing dive of Tom Glover and high into the net.

Did he mean it? Probably not. Leam Richardson won't care one jot. The bottom side are ahead.

  19. CLOSE!published at 16:35 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    West Brom 1-0 Norwich

John Swift has come inches away from doubling the lead with a goal which would immediately go down as a classic.

He picked the ball up on the edge of the box and *without looking* spins to dink a superb chip across goal and narrowly past the top of the far upright with Angus Gunn beaten.

  20. goal

GOAL: Huddersfield 3-0 Blackburnpublished at 16:34 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Delano Burgzorg (68 mins)

That'll be that for the Terriers!

A sixth of the season for Dutch forward Delano Burgzorg.

Jack Rudoni pinches the ball high up, he feeds Josh Koroma, he moves it on to Burgzorg and his finish finds the back of the net.

Town moving five clear of the relegation zone.
