  1. goal

GOAL: Watford 1-2 Bristol Citypublished at 16:08 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Giorgi Chakvetadze (49 mins)

The half-time substitute instantly makes an impact having come on for Jake Livermore, a clever run from Girogi Chakvetadze who fires in at the near post.

    But there's more...

  2. goal

GOAL: Southampton 2-0 Swanseapublished at 16:07 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Sam Edozie (48 mins)

This is one you need to see. Words aren't enough.

Swans keeper Carl Rushworth won't be watching though. He gets a back-pass played to him at pace in his own goalmouth, with Sam Edozie seeking to close him down he takes an almighty slash at the ball, misses his kick and Edozie is able to race across to the far post and then impudently backheel the ball across the line past the despairing dive of keeper and defender.

Saints go marching on. 16 in a row unbeaten looks nailed on.

  3. goal

GOAL: Cardiff 2-1 Plymouthpublished at 16:05 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Karlan Grant (47 mins)

Serious strike this for Cardiff, some contrast between this and their first-half goal.

Cardiff flew out the traps like...bluebirds I suppose...

An edge of the box thunderbolt from Karlan Grant who scored twice against Argyle for Charlton back in 2018.

    Off we go again...

    HT: Stevenage 2-0 Northampton

    Marc Webber
    Final Score at Lamex Stadium

Stevenage being given plenty of space to score their opener.

The second was slightly more spectacular as Jordan Roberts sent a ball in from the corner which looked like a cross, but he’d probably tell you he meant it.

You do feel West Brom have to go on and win this to snap themselves out of their current sticky patch.

They’ve been by far the more creative, even before Norwich went down to 10.

On another day John Swift could have had a hat-trick. I’ve no doubt the very healthy number of away supporters packed into the Smethwick End would take a point right now.

  7. League Two half-time headlinespublished at 15:59 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

At the start of the day, Barrow were second place, and so far so good for the Bluebirds against leaders Stockport as they lead 2-1 at the break.

Ben Whitfield fired Barrow in front, turning home Kian Spence's volley before roles reversed and Spence netted a second from Whitfield's pass.

However, Stockport pulled one back through Nick Powell in first-half stoppage time. If things stay as they are Barrow will close the gap at the top to three points.

Wrexham are clinging onto their coat-tails at the moment and they lead Swindon Town 1-0 at the County Ground thanks to James McClean.

Fellow promoted side Notts County are 2-0 up against Doncaster Rovers, while Walsall are leading Crewe courtesy of Freddie Draper's 10th of the season.

Meanwhile at the bottom, Troy Deeney is enjoying a dream day in his second match as Forest Green Rovers boss, with his side are winning 2-0 away at Newport County.

  8. League One half-time headlinespublished at 15:58 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

With leaders Portsmouth being held by Bristol Rovers, Peterborough United are looking to close the gap, and they lead Reading 1-0 at the break.

Stevenage lead Northampton 2-0 as they look set to get back to winning ways, whilst Derby County lead Wigan 1-0.

Cambridge United look like they might mount a shock against rivals Oxford United as they lead 1-0 at the Kassam Stadium thanks to Joran Cousins.

Managerless Burton Albion are one goal to the good against Blackpool at the Pirelli Stadium and Cheltenham Town are on course for a second consecutive win as they are leading Shrewsbury Town 1-0 at home.

Also, it's currently honours even at 1-1 in the match between the two bottom sides Fleetwood Town and Carlisle United.

Meanwhile, after losing 7-0 to Barnsley on the opening day, it looks set to be another long afternoon for Port Vale as they trail the Reds 3-0 at the break.

    • Southampton lead 1-0 at home to Swansea and going third as it stands.
    • Strugglers Huddersfield 1-0 up at home to Blackburn as they look to move five points clear of the relegation zone.
    • In-form Coventry a goal to the good against lowly Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol City lead 2-0 at Watford.
    • Matt Butcher's own goal gifts Cardiff an equaliser at home to Plymouth.
    • Goalless elsewhere but Norwich down to 10 men at West Brom.

    Peterborough 1-0 Reading

    Adam Whitty
    BBC Final Score

After a pretty tiresome first 37 minutes, second-placed Posh came to life! If you'd enjoyed yourself quite a bit yesterday, I'd have forgiven you for having a little snooze.

The hosts had been the only team who looked even remotely threatening. Ephron Mason-Clarke rattled the post, and from the resulting corner, Josh Knight headed in.

Since then, Peterborough have been rampant. I fear the floodgates have opened...

  11. Postpublished at 15:49 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Hull City 0-0 Sunderland

Sunderland forward Bradley Dack is forced off with an injury before the break.

Adil Aouchiche is on in his place.

  12. goal

GOAL: Watford 0-2 Bristol Citypublished at 15:48 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

Wesley Hoedt own goal (45+3 mins)

Tommy Conway down the left-hand side crosses it low and the former Southampton, Premier League centre-back Wesley Hoedt slides the ball into his own net, just before the whistle blows for the interval.

The half-time team talk could be even more aggressive now for the Hornets' XI...

  13. CLOSE!published at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    West Brom 0-0 Norwich

Okay Yokuslu is the latest to threaten for the Baggies but cannot keep his far-post header from a Cedric Kipre cross down.

Norwich haven't won on Boxing Day since 2017. Odds seem against them breaking that duck today.

  14. Postpublished at 15:43 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Huddersfield 1-0 Blackburn

Huddersfield are forced into a change in goal as Chris Maxwell has to go off injured.

Jacob Chapman is on for his Town debut.

  15. CLOSE!published at 15:43 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Watford 0-1 Bristol City

City on top at Vicarage Road.

The latest chance for the away side sees Mark Sykes battle down the right and cut back to Anis Mehmeti who sees Francisco Sierralta block his shot.

  16. Postpublished at 15:42 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Rotherham 0-0 Middlesbrough

Rare opportunity for the hosts as Jordan Hugill has sliced off-target for the Millers after controlling the ball in the Boro box.

  17. RED CARD FOR NORWICHpublished at 15:39 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Borja Sainz (33 mins)

Borja Sainz has been shown a second yellow card for waving an imaginary one of his own towards the referee.

The visitors have been under the pump for much of the opening half-hour and will have to play the remaining hour or so a man short.

David Wagner won't be impressed with that one, surely.

Sainz had been denied by Albion keeper Alex Palmer just moments before too.

Are football blooper videos still popular Christmas gifts?

Plymouth's Matt Butcher has just scored an own goal to grace any classic VHS of the 90s (presented by Nick Hancock or someone like that), with a pass-back from outside his own area which dribbled in, despite the sliding effort of goalkeeper Conor Hazard.

  19. GREAT SAVE!published at 15:37 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Southampton 1-0 Swansea

Swans keeper Carl Rushworth has been called into action twice in quick succession, getting down to deny Adam Armstrong a13th league goal of the season.

End-to-end stuff at The Hawthorns where Norwich's Gabriel Sara has driven wide from distance shortly after John Swift muffed his kick at the other end from a Jed Wallace cross.
