  1. What's next?published at 17:49 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

BBC Scotland's live coverage of Scottish football is fairly relentless and we have one day of rest tomorrow before we are back with Celtic's visit to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League - plus Motherwell's trip to Perth to face St Johnstone - on Tuesday.

If you were listening to Sportsound earlier, you will now know that it looks likely the Saints will have a new manager by then.

Could Craig Levein have made his last appearance - for a while at least - as a BBC pundit? It is, though, definitely all from me for today.

FT: Heart of Midlothian 1-3 Rangers

Rangers' revival under Philippe Clement rolls on.

The Ibrox side are now unbeaten in six outings, five of them victories, and most importantly have clinched a place in the League Cup final against Aberdeen.

For Hearts, it is a case of back to the drawing board after only one win in five.

  3. Dundee catch Heartspublished at 17:38 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    FT: Dundee 1-0 Livingston

More bad news for Hearts is that Dundee are now level on points with the fifth-top Edinburgh side after a 1-0 Premiership victory at home to Livingston earlier this afternoon.

  5. Clement already thinking of Sparta Praguepublished at 17:34 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

FT: Heart of Midlothian 1-3 Rangers

Rangers manager Philippe Clement does not reserve his praise for two-goal James Tavernier.

"Tavernier had a good game - so did a lot of players," he tells BBC Scotland. "In the first half, we could have scored a few goals. In the second, when Hearts got tired, we found more spaces, more chances and good goals.

"I'm really happy with it, because I know how hard it is to play a team like Hearts with their qualities, their structure, their resilience. It was an important evening to create but also to not give away too much.

"I've only been here two weeks, but I can see how everyone at the club is doing the right thing.

"I'm not a guy who looks backwards. I always look forward. That's why I made some changes.

"I know we have a lot of games in a row. I'm really satisfied with getting to the final, but my head is already thinking about Sparta Prague."

  7. Penalty turned game - Naismithpublished at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

FT: Heart of Midlothian 1-3 Rangers

Hearts head coach Steven Naismith thought the penalty for opening goal turned the game in Rangers' favour.

"I don't have any complaints about the penalty," he tells BBC Scotland. "As a forward, some will say Danilo has gone down before there is contact.

"It was a close first half. To lose a penalty so early on in the second half, all the work goes out of the window.

"We conceded relatively quickly after it, which is frustrating, and gives you an uphill task to get back into the game and our goal probably came too late.

"If the game was closer, the penalty could have helped us, but giving away three goals so quickly put them out of sight.

"If we could have been better in possession we could have created more chances and it could have been cagier. That was what was frustrating.

"Everybody will be disappointed with the way the second half played out but we will focus on the league and the Scottish Cup when it comes around."

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has much for which to thank James Tavernier.

The club captain's two goals against Hearts takes him to 10 for the season.

The English right-back is now the second highest scorer across Scotland's four divisions.

A two-goal deficit flattered Hearts in the end. They survived to half-time at 0-0.

Rangers' response in the second half was excellent. They were really sharp. The clinical part of their game, which didn't exist in the first half, came to the fore in the second.

Tavernier and Danilo were excellent, a number of them stepped up. They blew Hearts away. It was really impressive.

There was huge applause near the end from the Rangers supporters as captain James Tavernier and manager Philippe Clement embraced in the technical area after the right-back was substituted.

Another two goals for Tavernier today takes him into double figures for the season. Some going for a full-back.

As day turns to night here at the national stadium, Rangers have demonstrated a hunger to get themselves back here in six weeks' time.

But they and manager Philippe Clement know that today's result is just that - one result. Defeating Aberdeen and securing the trophy is the statement they want to make.

The Dons have beaten Rangers twice in recent months and the final will be major test for both sides.

It's now played five, won four for Philippe Clement. The manager's Rangers reign is off to a flier, with a place now assured in next month's League Cup final.

His side were good today, well worth their win.

It's Sparta Prague next in Europe and, if he can get another win at Ibrox on Thursday, there will be a huge sense of optimism around the club for the crucial winter months ahead.

  16. FULL-TIME Heart of Midlothian 1-3 Rangerspublished at 17:00 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

Rangers are through to the Scottish League Cup final - their 37th.

They haven't won it since 2011, but they will have a big opportunity as they set up a 17 December showpiece back at Hampden against Aberdeen.

A dominant display against Hearts, although it took until an action-packed second half before they let rip to disappoint the Edinburgh side.
