  1. HALF-TIME Heart of Midlothian 0-0 Rangerspublished at 15:50 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

Rangers have been well on top, but this League Cup semi-final is still hanging very much in the balance.

Hearts goalkeeper Zander Clark has had a couple of saves, but neither side has done enough to reach the break with one foot in the final.

  2. YELLOW CARD Kingsley (Hearts)published at 45+2

    Heart of Midlothian 0-0 Rangers

Abdallah Sima is off like a gazelle down the wing only to be upended by Stephen Kingsley.

A yellow card for the Hearts defender is the result.

  3. Vargas a threatpublished at 15:48 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    Heart of Midlothian 0-0 Rangers

    Craig Levein
Former Hearts manager on BBC Sportsound

The quality hasn't been there for Hearts, but the focus has been on defending. Baningime had a lovely interception there, he's done really well, he's really alert.

What's noticeable is when Rangers attack, they're pouring men forward. Their centre-backs are on the half way line. If Hearts play one ball behind, it's a race between Vargas and the centre-backs and he's quicker than both.

    Heart of Midlothian 0-0 Rangers

We head into two minutes of stoppage time as another looping Abdallah Sima header loops towards the Hearts goal but is comfortably clutched out of the air by goalkeeper Zander Clark.

  5. Postpublished at 44mins

    Heart of Midlothian 0-0 Rangers

Hearts' best moments have come from long throws and, when Alex Cochrane launches the latest, there's a moment of panic in the Rangers penalty box before it's hoofed upfield.

  6. Postpublished at 40mins

    Heart of Midlothian 0-0 Rangers

Hearts are just sitting back willing Rangers to come at them.

Todd Cantwell is next with a sight at goal, but the midfielder's toe-poke from an Abdallah Sima cross is blocked and then thumped clear. Pretty agricultural stuff at the moment.

That's some turn of pace from Abdallah Sima. More than once, he's given a Hearts player a yard start and motored past him.

Sibbick and Kingsley down that side in particular are finding it difficult to keep up with him, in more ways than one.

You get the sense Hearts want half-time to come quickly with the game still level.

  9. Postpublished at 34mins

    Heart of Midlothian 0-0 Rangers

Rangers are back on the offensive and Abdallah Sima rises unmarked to meet a Borna Barisic corner.

The striker should do better than head wide of the far post.

  10. ouch!

    Ouch!published at 32mins

    Heart of Midlothian 0-0 Rangers

It's Hearts' turn to apply a bit of pressure and, after Leon Balogun heads clear, the Rangers centre-half blocks a goalbound drive from opposite number Toby Sibbick.

The veteran is left on the deck requiring attention and hobbles to the sidelines. We wonder if he can continue, but he quickly returns.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement didn't like that. The Todd Cantwell booking prompted a look of "really?" from the Belgian as he engaged with the fourth official.

  12. Rangers in total controlpublished at 15:32 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    Heart of Midlothian 0-0 Rangers

    Kheredine Idessane
    BBC Sport Scotland at Hampden

Philippe Clement applauds his side's efforts. The last 10 minutes or so have been totally played in the Hearts half and dominated by Rangers.

You have to admire the organisation and defending by the Gorgie side, however. Their energy and willingness to fight is making it hard for Rangers to break through.

How long can Hearts hold out though?

  13. YELLOW CARD Cantwell (Rangers)published at 28mins

    Heart of Midlothian 0-0 Rangers

Rangers midifelder Todd Cantwell is a bit reckless with his elbow, catching Alex Cochrane and picking up the game's first booking.

  14. Postpublished at 27mins

    Heart of Midlothian 0-0 Rangers

Rangers continue to pile on the pressure.

This time, James Tavernier's cross is headed over by Abdallah Sima when the striker is found 12 yards from goal.

  15. GOOD SAVE!published at 25mins

    Heart of Midlothian 0-0 Rangers

Hearts haven't been seen as an attacking force for some minutes now.

Rangers are popping the ball about the penalty box looking for chances and Danilo's little flick puts Todd Cantwell in behind.

However, goalkeeper Zander Clark gets a strong wrist the midfielder's drive towards the near post.

  16. Hearts out to frustratepublished at 15:27 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    Heart of Midlothian 0-0 Rangers

    Craig Levein
Former Hearts manager on BBC Sportsound

The Hearts set-up - they've got five defenders in the back-line. Sometimes when you play this system, you can be more adventurous by playing a forward player on one of the wings. Instead, it's Cochrane and Sibbick.

From the beginning, that tells you the plan is to frustrate Rangers.

  17. Hearts happy to build from the backpublished at 15:23 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    Heart of Midlothian 0-0 Rangers

    Kheredine Idessane
    BBC Sport Scotland at Hampden

There are a few sharp intakes of breath from the Hearts fans around me every time the Tynecastle side try to build patiently from their own box.

It's largely worked, so far, with Grant, Nieuwenhof and Baningime happy to take the ball in midfield.

Rangers building up a good head of steam in the last few minutes, however, with chances for Cantwell, Sima and Danilo. Much better from the Glasgow side.

  18. Hearts not taking chancespublished at 15:22 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    Heart of Midlothian 0-0 Rangers

    Craig Levein
Former Hearts manager on BBC Sportsound

Steven Naismith's first thought going into this game has been 'let's be difficult to beat'. That's been evident so far.

  19. Opportunities out widepublished at 15:22 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2023

    Heart of Midlothian 0-0 Rangers

    Andy Campbell
    BBC Scotland at Hampden Park

The area around the centre circle is so congested, it really should suit both teams to go wide or over the top. That's where the chances have come from so far, including the Abdallah Sima and Todd Cantwell headers.

  20. Postpublished at 18mins

    Heart of Midlothian 0-0 Rangers

Ryan Jack is the man with the cross into the Hearts box this time, but fellow midfielder Todd Cantwell's header is straight at goalkeeper Zander Clark.

The Light Blues ramping up the pressure.
