    Bristol City 0-0 Aston Villa

Beautiful football! Villa pick City apart with a superb passing move, Rachel Daly is onside and behind the defence but the angle is unkind and from right of the penalty area she can only drag a bobbling shot across goal.

Last season they were flying in and that's the difference.

It's all nearly there for Villa, who look slick and organised and move the ball really nicely in midfield. It's just not clicking in the top part of the pitch for them.

The ball flies through the penalty area, not for the first time this afternoon, but Rachel Daly and co can't get a telling touch and City survive again.

Rachel Daly, who had an injury scare late in the first half, is back out there up front for Villa so good news all round. Can the England striker prove the difference in this second half?

A first defeat in 22 WSL home matches for Manchester City and a first loss to a non-London club at home since 2018, a run of 38 games ended.

    Seismic result.

  7. How things stand...published at 15:13 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

So here's how things are shaping up in the WSL after that Chelsea win and Manchester City's shock defeat to Brighton, which sees Gareth Taylor's side drop to fifth.

Manchester United move second with their win over West Ham while Tottenham and Liverpool remain level on points in third and fourth.

Arsenal will take on Leicester later on with the chance to move into the top three, three points off Chelsea and one point ahead of Manchester United.

If the Gunners don't win Chelsea will already have managed to stretch a decent lead.

HT: Bristol City 0-0 Aston Villa

Aston Villa have lost each of their last five WSL matches, their longest losing run since April 2021; they have never had a longer losing run in the WSL so an unwanted record is still a possibility. They were good in that first 45 though without managing to score.

    Brighton have done it!

What a huge result. Manchester City will be kicking themselves after dominating and creating so many chances, but they didn't really test Sophie Baggaley enough.

That is their first WSL defeat to Brighton. A historic afternoon, but the best example of a smash and grab I've seen in a while.

    Aggie Beever-Jones (89 mins)

    This time she gets it!

What an absolute beauty of a strike from Aggie Beever-Jones from around 25-yards out.

The celebrations are muted from the forward, scoring against the club she was on loan at last season. But that is her third goal off the bench for Chelsea.

  18. 'Last year we may have lost a game like this'published at 14:55 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2023

    FT: Tottenham 1-1 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Matt Beard speaking on BBC Two: "I think we were lucky [to get the draw], especially with our first half performance - I was disappointed with our positional play. In the second half if there was going to be a winner it was going to be us.

"But look we take the point, especially with the way we started the game. I did feel though if there was going to be a winner today it would have been us.

On how far the side was off their best level: "We were miles off it, miles off it. We showed the players a few clips at half time of us walking to get back into shape, 60 yards of space in behind to exploit with the pace of Mel Lawley and Mia Enderby but we could hardly connected one or two passes together, or weren't in the right positions.

"We showed a different side to our game today, we had to grind a result out in the end. Maybe last year we would have lost it, but today we've taken a point. Maybe at the end we could have gotten all three."
