  2. Not long now...published at 19:57 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2023

    Rotherham v Ipswich (kick-off 20:00 GMT)

More than 2,000 Ipswich fans have made the trip north for this one, you'd imagine plenty of them were also there when the game was called off three hours before kick-off 18 days ago.

Three points tonight, to go within a point of leaders Leicester, would make it all worthwhile, you'd expect.

But Rotherham, winners of seven of the last nine matches in this head-to-head, are something of a bogey team.

    Kick-off is fast approaching...

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna makes three changes from the side which battled back to draw 2-2 at Birmingham on Saturday.

Marcus Harness’ reward for coming off the bench to net both Town goals is just his second start of the season, having made 11 of his 12 appearances thus far from the bench.

He comes in for the unwell Nathan Broadhead, who is not even on the bench, while Kayden Jackson replaces Omari Hutchinson on the right, with the Chelsea loanee dropping down to the bench.

McKenna also hands a league debut to defender Axel Tuanzebe in place of Luke Woolfenden, who had started every game since February.

Brandon Williams returns to the bench after illness.

Ipswich XI: Hladky, Clarke, Tuanzebe, Burgess, Davis, Morsy, Luongo, Jackson, Chaplin, Harness, Hirst.

  4. Two changes for Millerspublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2023

    Rotherham v Ipswich (kick-off 20:00 GMT)

Millers boss Matt Taylor has made two changes to the team which ensured a point at home to QPR on Saturday.

There is a Rotherham debut for free agent defender Daniel Ayala who replaces Sean Morrison.

Club-record signing Sam Nombe is also handed a start in place of top-scorer Jordan Hugill up front.

Taylor has also named Jamie Lindsay on the bench for the first time this season - the Scottish midfielder has been sidelined with an Achilles injury.

Rotherham XI: Johansson, Lembikisa, Bramall, Ayala, Cafu, Clucas, Onyedinma, Rathbone, Odoffin, Tiehi, Nombe.

  5. Reasons to be fearful...published at 19:48 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2023

    Rotherham v Ipswich (kick-off 20:00 GMT)

Are you sitting down, Ipswich fans? If you overlook current form, the omens are not particularly good tonight.

Rotherham have won each of their last four league meetings with Ipswich, their longest ever league winning run against the Tractor Boys.

Ipswich have suffered four straight defeats away at Rotherham, all of them finishing 1-0 to the hosts.

To make matters worse, Rotherham top-scorer Jordan Hugill has scored in both of his two previous home league appearances against Ipswich – one for Preston in January 2017 and one for Middlesbrough in December 2018.

Slightly better news for the visitors is that Ipswich are unbeaten in their last 19 midweek league games (matches played on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday), winning 15 of them, including their last six in a row.

If they can make it seven tonight that will be their longest midweek winning streak since 1998 when Town's Championship promotion push ran out of steam in the final month and they ended up losing in the play-offs for the third straight season. Sorry to bring back any painful memories.

    Right, back to the Championship...

This is second v third-bottom. Ipswich have only lost one of their 14 league games, and that was in August, while Rotherham have only won two of their 14, losing eight times.

Rotherham might have the worst away form in the division, taking one point from seven games, but at home they have been a different proposition with nine points from seven games, beating Coventry and Norwich and holding Preston, Blackburn and, most recently, QPR on Saturday.

Ipswich are second only to perfect travellers Leicester in terms of away form.

Five wins and two draws means they and the Foxes are the division’s only unbeaten road teams, while Town’s four goals conceded is the best record in the Championship.

Half of those goals came at St Andrew’s on Saturday as Marcus Harness scored a late double in the final 11 minutes at Birmingham to salvage a draw.

Ipswich had conceded just once in the previous five away games. Rotherham have scored in all seven of their home games.

Something’s got to give tonight, right?

  7. Tonight's League Two previewpublished at 19:41 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2023

    Colchester v Swindon (kick-off 19:45 GMT)

We're also moments away from kick-off in another rearranged game, in the fourth tier this time.

It's back to normal business for both these teams following first-round exits from the FA Cup on Saturday.

Swindon must still be wondering what hit them after trailing 7-0 at home to National League side before scoring four goals in the final 20 minutes to save a little bit of face.

Colchester took an early lead through Cameron McGeehan in their tie away to League One Shrewsbury Town, but eventually went down 3-2.

The U's have won their last two in the league despite confusion over the status of interim boss Matthew Etherington, while the Robins have now lost three in a row in all competitions.

It's not just the Championship tonight, there are three games in the third tier this evening and Ian Evatt's Bolton can draw level on points with second-placed Oxford if they win at Shrewsbury.

The Trotters are on a four-game winning streak after cruising past Solihull Moors 4-0 in the FA Cup at the weekend.

Peterborough United are another side with promotion ambitions and should Bolton fail to win, they will move above them if they can take all three points away to Wigan Athletic.

Those matches kick-off at 19:45 GMT, with bottom-of-the-table Reading against managerless Bristol Rovers following at 20:00 GMT - the Royals looking to end a five-game losing run in the league.

The River Don burst its banks last month because of Storm BabetImage source, PA Media

Yes. Good memory! Storm Babet put paid to the original Friday night fixture on 20 October.

The River Don, which runs next to the New York Stadium, burst its banks on the afternoon of the game after heavy rainfall.

Although the pitch was playable, the game was called-off three hours before kick-off on spectator safety grounds.

Ipswich sat second that night, seeking a win to go top, while the Millers were second bottom.

Fast-forward 18 days and the Tractor Boys remain second, but will stay there no matter the result tonight, now trailing leaders Leicester by four points, while Rotherham are third-bottom, seeking to close a five-point gap to Huddersfield and safety in this game in hand.

Word is that the brightest lights of all can be found in New York, and fittingly the New York Stadium is the stage for tonight's main event, the Championship clash between Rotherham and Ipswich, two sides with vastly differing ambitions at opposite ends of the table at present.

We'll also be keeping you up to date with a raft of matches in League One, League Two and the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.
