RB Leipzig's in-form midfielder Xavi Simons will be one that the Republic will want to keep an eye on this evening.

The 20-year old has scored six times and provided eight assists for his club so far this season.

He struggled against the Republic in September, but given the rich vein of form he is in, he will be looking to score his first international goal tonight.

The only new face in Stephen Kenny's squad from the last international window is midfielder Andrew Moran.

The 20-year old is currently on loan at Championship side Blackburn from Brighton.

He has scored two and made two assists in 12 games so far for Rovers.

Stephen Kenny has already given debuts to 23 players during his reign and Moran is in line to become the 24th if he features off the bench tonight.

Netherlands currently sit second in the Group B table, with a win this evening sealing their place in Euro 2024.

They lost both games against pacesetters France, but recorded an important 1-0 win against Greece in October to set them on track for next year's tournament.

They have top level talent throughout their team, with full-back Denzel Dumfries, who is in line to win his 50th cap a chief tormentor.

He has been involved in eight goals in his last nine appearances for the Netherlands (1 goal, 7 assists) and has five assists in Euro 2024 qualifying, with only Bruno Fernandes registering more.

Netherlands haven’t hosted the Republic of Ireland since June 2004, losing 1-0 in a friendly with Robbie Keane netting the winner.

  4. 'We need to establish control in the game'published at 19:35 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2023

Netherlands v Republic of Ireland (19:45 GMT)

Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny speaking on RTE Sport:

"It's a great game for the players to play in, a fantastic game and a full house. Obviously, Netherlands are looking to seal their qualification tonight. There wasn't much in the game at home, we had a lot of joy in the aggressive press. I think we have to establish an element of control in the game.

"Without Chiedozie Ogbene and Michael Obafemi, Josh Cullen is very important for us tonight, we need him to really get us playing from his position. The Netherlands are very difficult to create chances against, defensively they are very solid, so we will have to work very hard to create chances."

Netherlands v Republic of Ireland (19:45 GMT)

The Republic of Ireland show four changes to the side that beat Gibraltar 4-0 last month in Portugal.

One of those is enforced, as the injured Chiedozie Ogbene is replaced by Callum Robinson, who came off the bench to score in that win.

Stephen Kenny seems to have reverted to a back five, with Dara O'Shea and Nathan Collins reinstated in place of Shane Duffy and Mikey Johnston.

Jamie McGrath, who was an injury concern heading into the game, is named on the bench with Alan Browne taking his place.

Andrew Moran could make his debut off the bench whilst Matt Doherty captains the side.

Netherlands also make four changes after a spate of injuries.

Stefan de Vrij comes in for the injured Nathan Ake, whilst Daley blind replaces Lutsharel Geertruida at full-back.

Jerdy Schouten is preferred to Mats Wieffer and Cody Gakpo comes in for the injured Steven Bergwijn.

Thijs Dallinga, a late addition to the squad because of injuries to Bergwijn and Brian Brobbey is on the bench. The 23-year-old striker has scored 16 times since joining Toulouse.

  8. Kenny has 'no control' over futurepublished at 19:21 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2023

Netherlands v Republic of Ireland (19:45 GMT)

Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny says his full focus is on the final Euro 2024 qualifier in the Netherlands and not on his future.

Kenny has been under pressure after a disappointing campaign and his contract expires after a friendly with New Zealand on 21 November.

"What happens next I have no control over," Kenny said.

Netherlands v Republic of Ireland (19:45 GMT)

The Netherlands all but ended the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2024 qualification hopes with a comeback 2-1 win at the Aviva Stadium in September.

Adam Idah opened the scoring with an early penalty, after Virgil Van Dijk's handball.

Cody Gakpo responded for the Dutch, also from the penalty spot, when Denzel Dumfries was fouled by Gavin Bazunu.

Wout Weghorst, who was introduced as a half-time substitute, scored the winner 11 minutes after his introduction to condemn the Republic to a fourth defeat in five qualifiers.

Chiedozie Ogbene has been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2024 qualifier against the Netherlands this evening.

Netherlands v Republic of Ireland (19:45 GMT)

Good evening and welcome to our live text commentary of this evening's Euro 2024 qualifier between Netherlands and the Republic of Ireland.

Thursday’s win for Slovakia against Iceland finally extinguished the Republic's backdoor route to next year's tournament in Germany, via the playoffs.

As a result, tonight's game in Amsterdam is a dead-rubber for the Republic and it could also be Stephen Kenny's last competitive game in charge.

It has been a pretty miserable campaign which has yielded just two wins, both against Gibraltar.

The Republic were edged out by Ronald Koeman's side in Dublin and will want to end the year on the high.

For the Dutch, they know a win this evening will seal their progress to Euro 2024 with a game to spare, which will be their incentive.

Hopefully it will be a good one.

Thanks for joining us - enjoy!
