Having watched this group stage, the build-up against teams, the resilience shown, the quality shown and some of the goals which have been scored, you'd hope we maybe get a little bit more respect, rather than the old phrase, 'Scotland are going to be physical'.

Scott McTominay has scored six goals in Euro 2024 qualifying - only Steven Fletcher (7 for Euro 2016) and John McGinn (7 for Euro 2020) have scored more in a single qualifying campaign for Scotland.

That's four clean sheets from six outings, having only recording more in a single Euro qualifying campaign for the 1988 (6) and 1996 (7) tournaments.

Steve Clarke's impressive record has taken a hit with three successive defeats to England, Spain and France.

"We want to get back to winning ways," he said yesterday.

"It's not very often in the reign I've had, apart from the early stages, that we've had consecutive defeats like we've had recently so it'd be nice to think in the remaining two games we can pick up more points.

"I've always said we want to get as high a points tally as possible. We've two more games to try and do that."

Georgia also have a pretty decent home record to protect.

Spain are the only team to have left with a victory in their past 10 games.

They thumped Cyprus 4-0 in October and doubled that tally in a friendly against Thailand a few days before that.

Georgia are a long way behind Scotland in Group A but the hosts are not down and out due to the play-offs - remember them?

Having won their League C section, they remain in with a shout of going to Germany.

They are currently the top-ranked team in League C and, as long as they can retain a place in the top four, they could yet join Scotland at Euro 2024.
