Both sets of players are out warming up at the Boris Paichadze Stadium, with Scotland wearing BRIGHT yellow training tops.

The stadium is filling up... However, I'm told there will not be a full house tonight, maybe around 20,000 home fans with 1,500 making the journey from Scotland.

  2. Clark the 'foundation' for Scotland successpublished at 16:37 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2023

    Georgia v Scotland (17:00)

Steve Clarke is certainly not one to blow his own trumpet, that's just not his style.

Only Ian McColl (28 games, 1960-65), Tommy Docherty (12 games 1970-71) and Alex McLeish 10 games, 2007) have better winning percentages.

Clarke is slightly ahead of Craig Brown, who managed 32 wins from his 71 games.

"He's been the foundation for what's happened with the national team," insisted defender Jack Hendry this week.

Midfielder Stuart Armstrong added: "He’s brought a winning mentality to Scotland that perhaps wasn’t there before and the belief that we can go into big games and come out with results and points."

  3. 50 up for Clarkepublished at 16:36 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2023

    Georgia v Scotland (17:00)

This is Steve Clarke's 50th match in charge of Scotland.

He's seeking a 25th win tonight and even I can work out what that would mean for his percentages.

Clarke took the job in May 2019 when Scotland were in the doldrums.

Now it's back-to-back European Championship finals.

  4. Roll call for capspublished at 16:33 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2023

    Georgia v Scotland (17:00)

Cap number 61 for tonight's skipper, John McGinn.

He joins Richard Gough and Ally McCoist on that tally.

Callum McGregor is up to 57 - the same number Roy Aitken and Gary McAllister goT to.

This Scotland team looks agile and versatile. It's a young and hungry side, but still very experienced.

  6. Elsewhere in Group A...published at 16:28 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2023

    Georgia v Scotland (17:00)

It's top v bottom in tonight's other match, with Spain in Cyprus.

What are the chances of the Cypriots picking up their first points of the campaign?

It's a far-fetched notion, but we can live in hope.

  7. Scotland sitting prettypublished at 16:25 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2023

    Georgia v Scotland (17:00)

Scotland have turned it on when it mattered this time.

The big results came in March and June when Spain were sent home to think again and Norway stunned by two late goals on their own patch.

Let's just take another look at the Group A table shall we?

  8. Terrible Tbilisi recordpublished at 16:21 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2023

    Georgia v Scotland (17:00)

It's not all been fun and games against Georgia though...

Scotland's record in Tbilisi is not great. Played two, lost two.

Hopes for reaching Euro 2008 were high before a costly 2-0 defeat in October 2007.

Manager Alex McLeish was looking for a seventh successive win, the hosts were hopelessly understrength, giving debuts to three teenagers, and yet it all went horribly wrong.

Gordon Strachan was the boss in 2015 when Valeri Qazaishvili's first-half goal was enough for Georgia.

  9. Tartan Army singing in the rainpublished at 16:17 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2023

    Georgia v Scotland (17:00)

Scotland may be home and dry but that's now how you'd describe the weather the last time these teams met.

The rain was positively Biblical on the southside of Glasgow on 20 June, with fans waiting patiently through a 90-minute delay before Steve Clarke's side completed a 2-0 victory.

Play stopped after Callum McGregor slammed in a sixth-minute goal in near farcical conditions. Scott McTominay doubled the lead shortly after the break.

The Georgians, who missed a late penalty, were none too pleased and their fruitless protests added to the drama as an army of heroes with mops, brushes, squeegees and forks - even a leaf blower - somehow salvaged the sodden pitch at Hampden.

A back four for Scotland too, with so many first choice defenders missing.

Remember, Angus Gunn, Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney and Aaron Hickey are all unavailable.

He and Liam Kelly got a half each in the recent friendly defeat to France.

  13. Georgia on our mindspublished at 16:03 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November 2023

    Georgia v Scotland (17:00)

Well, this is nice and relaxing, if a little unusual... Scotland go into their penultimate qualifying match for Euro 2024 with absolutely no pressure. Job done already. Place in Germany next summer booked.

This evening's game in Georgia is not completely without consequence though.

There remains a very slim chance of beating Spain to top spot in Group A.

If that doesn't happen, results over these next two games will determine which pot Scotland go into for the tournament draw in December.
