Burnley are hosting Luton in a top-flight match for the first time since a 1-0 victory in January 1975.

They could complete their first league double over Luton since 1995 (in the second tier).

The Clarets are unbeaten in the past seven league meetings, winning four and drawing three.

But Luton are undefeated in their last seven league trips to Turf Moor since losing 2-1 in 1995 under David Pleat.

It would be a huge win for Luton but I think it would be more damaging to Burnley.

You would feel that there would be a certain psychological effect on Burnley if Luton go there and pick up all three points.

    I don't know that it's a must-win for Luton, but I think it's a must-not-lose.

Luton beat Sheffield United 2-1 on Boxing Day in their last away game.

They could win back-to-back top-flight away games for the first time since December 1987 under Ray Harford.

Since that win at the Blades they have lost at home to Chelsea and drawn with Bolton in the FA Cup.

Burnley are the first team to lose nine of their opening 10 home games of a top-flight campaign.

In Football League history, only Newport County have ever lost 10 of their first 11 home matches, doing so in the fourth tier in 1970-71.

    This is a difficult one.

Burnley beat Luton at Kenilworth Road earlier in the season but they have a terrible home record with just three points picked up from a possible 30 so far.

It's a huge game for Vincent Kompany's side because they are four points behind the Hatters, who are also in the bottom three.

Win it, and they not only beat the team immediately above them, it could also be seen as the launchpad for the improvement they will surely need at Turf Moor if they are going to stay up.

It's not a must-win game in terms of the points that are up for grabs, but feels like it because of the belief that a victory would give them.

I just don't see it happening for them on Friday, though. For starters, the Clarets don't score enough goals - they have managed only 20 in their first 20 games - and Luton appear to be far more streetwise.

By that, I mean Luton seem to know how to get a result even when their performance probably doesn't merit one.

They beat Newcastle and Sheffield United over Christmas and although they did not deserve to beat the Blades from the way they played, they were able to capitalise when they were allowed back into the game.

It makes me think Luton won't lose this and smells like a 1-1 draw to me.

    Sutton's prediction: 1-1

Burnley have only got 11 points after 20 matches.

One team has ever stayed up from that position - West Bromwich Albion in 2004-05.

That comeback was so unique though that it's still known as 'The Great Escape'.

    Burnley

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany speaking to TNT Sports before the game: "It has been tough learning for sure, but we have been in games right to the end and we have felt like we could have got stuff from games.

"These games are always like finals a little bit and I would like for us to win today."

On the relegation battle: "I think you want the lads to embrace [the game] and what is the point in being here if you don't like the pressure - it shows that is is meaningful.

"It is not the first [big game] we have played this season and it won't be the last one."

Praise for Rob Edwards: "A year ago [roughly] he was first managing Watford and now he is in the Premier League managing Luton. Anything is possible."

    Burnley v Luton (19:45 GMT)

    Luton Town

Luton manager Rob Edwards speaking to TNT Sports before the game: "They are all big games now and we are looking forward to it tonight since I have been here we have had two tough games against Burnley in the Championship and then another one earlier this season.

"We know how big of a game it is."

On Luton's development: "Both of us [Burnley and Luton] will say we have I improved, that night [loss against Burnley earlier in the season] was a good performance from us.

"We have moved on a lot from there and we have developed. We have become competitive in most games and we have to be a full tilt to make sure we achieve something this year."

On pressure: "We are aware of how big the game is and we do talk about it.

"It is a huge game for this football club, we know what this game means and we have done fairly well with the teams in and around us who are also in the battle.

"We have to enjoy the pressure, but not put too much pressure on the players.

"We are under no illusions of how tough this game is.

"We have found our way in and a blueprint now we have all got to evolve."

Burnley have never scored a Premier League goal on a Friday in four attempts, including a 3-0 home loss to Manchester City on the opening day of the season.

Luton have lost both of their two Friday Premier League fixtures - 3-0 at Chelsea and 2-1 at home to West Ham.

Luton's tally of 15 points is the lowest by a Premier League debutant at the halfway stage of the season since Wolves in 2003-04.

Wolves, who had 15 points at this stage too, finished bottom.

Rob Edwards downplayed it because managers do that but certainly it would be a great stimulus for Luton that they had gone and beaten one of the sides that were below them and moved further clear of them.

The way that Burnley are playing - they have only won three Premier League games this season and are struggling to find a win.

So it would be a big boost for Luton, but Burnley beat them earlier in the season at Kenilworth Road and also beat them late last season as well.

Luton manager Rob Edwards says Burnley "can - and have - hurt bigger and better teams" than them this season.

The two clubs were promoted from the Championship last season.

"We see every game as an opportunity to get three points and this is the next one," said Edwards. "If we do, then great, we can jump up a little bit for a few hours at least, but there's a long way to go this season.

"It's a good challenge for us. This is a really difficult game and we've got to look to perform well in it because otherwise we've got no chance. Burnley have been close in a lot of games.

"We concentrate on the performance and hopefully the result will look after itself. I think they [the players] are ready to show people that we can compete against anyone."

Big night for Jordan Clark who is making his first Premier League start at the age of 30.

Luton's former Barnsley winger spent four seasons playing down the road from Turf Moor at Accrington Stanley in League One and League Two between 2016-2020.

Clark has made five substitute appearances for Luton in the league this season totalling 79 minutes.

This is definitely a relegation 6 pointer. I have been hugely impressed by Luton's grit, but they need to convert it into points. Also Burnley need to turn their fine football into wins. This will be exciting watch!
