  1. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:47 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January

    Derby 1-0 Burton

Just one minute of stoppage time ticks by and that's that for the first half.

Burton have responded well enough to Tom Barkhuizen's opener, but have yet to test Derby keeper Josh Vickers.

They have largely looked to Jasper Moon's long throws into the box and set-pieces for opportunities, but the deliveries have been disappointing.

The hosts look comfortable and carried much the bigger threat, especially Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, but Rams manager Paul Warne will want the scoreline to better reflect their superiority.

    Derby 1-0 Burton

Optimistic appeals for a free-kick as Steve Seddon bears down on the Derby box and goes down under a challenge.

Plenty of shouts from the away section of supporters, but nothing doing.

    Derby 1-0 Burton

Adedeji Oshilaja needs a minute after taking Conor Hourihane's cross full in the face.

That's a sore one, specially on a freezing night like this.

    But he soldiers on.

    Derby 1-0 Burton

The Brewers are at least earning a few set-pieces deep in Derby territory.

Joe Powell's corner has too much swing on it and curls narrowly over the bar.

Jake Caprice is getting into this game a little more in an attacking sense of late, that is really positive to see from Albion.

    Derby 1-0 Burton

Ciaran Gilligan does well to compete and win Burton a free-kick to the left of the Derby box.

Powell swings the ball into the six-yard box, but Josh Vickers is able to punch clear unchallenged.

Burton have offered little in attack. You can see why they have scored just seven away goals in the league this season.

That opener from Derby's Tom Barkhuizen sums up just about everything to do with this game so far.

Tyreece John-Jules gets Pride Park excited with a touch, Nathan Mendez-Laing provided the touch of class and the finish is nothing pretty.

This time, however, Barkhuizen is at least effective as he holds off his defender to bundle the ball home.

That goal has set the atmosphere alight.

  8. 'Derby County sprung on the attack.'published at 20:32 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January

It is a goal that comes from transition, Burton had the chance to break but then Derby County sprung on the attack.

With that open space, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing always was ahead of Jake Caprice. A good run into the box from Tom Barkhuizen.

    It was coming.

Josh Vickers' kick to halfway is flicked on by Tyreece John-Jules and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing races away.

He slides the ball across the face of goal where Tom Barkhuizen arrives at the back post to steer into an empty net.

His sixth goal of the season and a first as a starter.

They just cannot get it past Curtis Nelson.

Martin Patterson has his hands thrust into his pockets - nice looking coat that to be fair!

The Rams are dominating the first half, outgunning the visitors so far, and causing plenty of problems with crosses into the box.

Attempts on goal are 6-1 in their favour, with two on target.

But the only stat that counts. It's still goalless.

Mason Bennett has to be stronger and hold the ball up better.

Derby break really quick and are able to exploit where Jake Caprice was a little bit higher to get in one-to-one with the goalkeeper.

    Derby 0-0 Burton

Burton with a rare sojourn forward and they win a throw near the right corner flag,

Jasper Moon launches a long one into the box, but it doesn't get past the first man.

Then great work from Burton keeper Max Crocombe who twice denies Derby after a lightning burst forward into the box from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

Crocombe palms out his angled drive and then keeps out Callum Elder's follow-up with a boot.

    Ooof!

Now there's physical and then there's physical.

Mason Bennett flattens Callum Elder just inside the Burton half and is lucky to escape without a yellow.

Rookie Burton Albion boss Martin Paterson has covered just about every inch of his technical area already.

He has shaken his head at free-kicks, strolled towards his bench with his hands in his pockets, and stood on the edge of the pitch to scream instructions at his players.

I'm not sure how much of Paterson's Brewers we are really going to see in his first match tonight, but the 36-year-old is one animated character.

  16. Burton 'dangerous allowing Derby a lot of space.'published at 20:19 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January

    Derby 0-0 Burton

    Aaron Webster

Derby have not had a shot on target, have not been able to breach them, but I'm sure the Burton gaffer would like them to lay a glove on the Derby defence.

It looks like they are playing a lower block, but that is dangerous allowing Derby a lot of space.

  17. CLOSE!published at 16 mins

    Derby 0-0 Burton

Derby patiently work the ball upfield and Callum Elder is brought down on the left-hand touchline parallel to the box.

Dangerous position and Conor Hourihane's brilliant whipped free-kick picks out Curtis Nelson's run to the six-yard box but he somehow heads over from close range.

    Should have been the opener.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing angles in a teasing free-kick across the box from wide on the right which finds Nelson.

He rises highest in a crowded box but his glancing header is wide

    All Derby so far.

A dangerous run by Derby's Kane Wilson, a threatening cross after a great turn of pace.

Kane Wilson gets away down the right and sends in a low cross that forces the first corner of the game for the home side.

But Joe Powell gets up well to makes a hefty clearance.
